Though Actuals Lower Than Sunday Estimates, Gomez, Hudgens, Franco and Bikini Combo Has Year's Highest Average
Gomez, Hudgens, Franco, guns and bikinis: Outstanding domestic debut Harmony Korine's crime flick Spring Breakers currently boasts the year's highest per-theater average. That's no small feat. As per final Us/Canada weekend box-office numbers published on the web site Box Office Mojo, this past weekend (March 15-17) the film raked in $263,002 at three locations (two in New York City, one in Los Angeles). That's down slightly from the studio's $270,000 estimate released on Sunday, but still enough to average a fantastic $87,667 per venue. (Pictured above: Gomez [scroll down for more on Gomez's box-office performance to date; pictured below: bad girls in bikinis in court.) One of the highest opening weekend per-theater averages ever Spring Breakers was down one spot on Box Office Mojo's post-1982 chart of opening-weekend per-theater averages. At #23, the movie is sandwiched between two Academy Award winners: Tom Hooper / Colin Firth's The King's Speech with $88,863 and Steven Spielberg / Daniel Day-Lewis' Lincoln with $85,846. Once inflation is factored in, Spring Breakers drops to the 52nd spot (down nine spots from yesterday's estimates), landing between Daniel Myrick...

Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers: This year's top per-theater average by far Written and directed by Harmony Korine, and starring James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, Spring Breakers pulled in an estimated $270,000 at three locations (one in Los Angeles, two in New York City) this weekend (March 15-17) as per studio estimates found on the web site Box Office Mojo. The (very) low-budget crime comedy-drama averaged a hihgly impressive $90,000 per site. That's this year's best per-theater average so far by a wide margin. (Pictured above: James Franco and director Korine. What you see on Franco's arm is the map of Florida, in case you hadn't noticed.) Spring Breakers vs. The King's Speech, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty For comparison's sake, in late '10, the Tom Hooper / Colin Firth drama The King's Speech averaged $88,863 per theater on its first weekend in release; late last year, the...

Selena Gomez's 'Spring Breakers' stand in, Lauren Vera, gives HollywoodLife.com an inside look at what it's like to be on the hottest movie set of the spring! Ever since Selena Gomez became famous on the Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place, Lauren Vera has been told she's the spitting image of the gorgeous starlet. An aspiring actress herself, Lauren, 19, knew she had to jump at the opportunity to spend six weeks on the set of the hot indie film, Spring Breakers as Selena's stand in on set. Hl: How did this opportunity come about? Lv: I’m an actor myself. The Florida market is nothing like La, so there aren’t a lot of opportunities. When a huge movie comes, there aren’t opportunities to star in it usually, but you can be a stand in. Hl: What does being a “stand in” entail? Lv: Basically,...
