How the Jurassic World Trilogy Failed the Series
Image
Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic Jurassic Park is one of the most definitive achievements in blockbuster filmmaking ever created, and it's one of the rare classic summer movies that can still be enjoyed to this day. Similar to Jaws, Jurassic Park knew that a mix of heart, humor, scares, and spectacle were essential to creating an emotionally effective adventure with lovable characters. Unfortunately, these lessons were not headed in the sequels; while The Lost World: Jurassic Park was still a respectable follow up (in large part due to Spielberg’s return to the director’s chair), Jurassic Park III felt like a cheap B-movie. Inspiring movie on a soldier's bravery, 'Fauja' leaves a mark on Karthik Dammu
Image
Mumbai, May 27 (Ians) Fauja, a first-of-its-kind movie on the life of a jawan, shot in the hinterlands of Haryana, is all set to hit the theatres on June 1.

Starring Pavan Malhotra in a senior role, the movie revolves primarily around Karthik Dammu, an alumnus of the National School of Drama, who was previously seen in the Sayantan Mukherjee web series ‘Ray’. Sources privy to the closed-door premiere show of ‘Fauja’ have unanimously talked about it stirring up an emotion that is hard to let go.

Karthik, who is still in his extended student life and soon to transition into the corporate work life, talks about movies being more of a passion rather than a profession.

“In today’s fast-paced and competitive corporate world, finding a harmonious balance between one’s professional life and personal passions can be a daunting task,” says Karthik, who also is eagerly awaiting the release of...

Liff Special Movie Review: Haraamkhor
In a village in Gujarat, a married schoolteacher, Shyam (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), begins a relationship with one of his teenaged students, Sandhya (Shweta Tripati). Sandhya lives with her father, a policeman, who is often busy, leaving Sandhya to fend for herself, her mother having left them. Kamal (Irfan Khan), another student, is infatuated with Sandhya, a state that is encouraged and assisted by his best friend, Mintu (Mohd Samad). But Kamal’s infatuation is also fueled by the frustration he feels at Sandhya’s relationship with Shyam, which only he and Mintu seem to be aware of, at least early on.

Director Shlok Sharma has worked as an assistant to both Vishal Bhardwaj and Anurag Kashyap, and the influence of both these directors, particularly of Kashyap, can be seen in Haraamkhor. Small town life, gritty realism, a modern world that is encroaching at the edges (as symbolized by the windmills outside...
