And, indeed, when you are a death photographer – someone who takes final portraits of the dead before their cremation at Varanasi’s burning grounds – as is Sooraj (Gyanendra Tripathi), you would probably think that you’re doing a job that will always be needed. But Varanasi is a place that is changing, and Sooraj stands to see himself become irrelevant as high quality digital cameras and ever improving cameras on smart phones make it easier and faster to take pictures of great quality for mourning families. Cashfree raises funds from Sbi, to scale payments ecosystem

Bengaluru, June 7 (Ians) Digital payments platform Cashfree on Monday announced that State Bank of India (Sbi) has made an investment in the organisation for an undisclosed sum.

Incubated by payments pioneer PayPal, Cashfree is backed by Apis Partners, Smilegate and Y Combinator.

The platform is being used by businesses like Zomato, Cred, Nykaa, Delhivery, Acko and Shell, among others, for ecommerce payment collection, vendor payments and marketplace settlements etc.

"The investment from India's largest bank shows its trust in Cashfree's innovation and the way we are rapidly scaling up the payments business. This also underscores Cashfree's role towards building a payments ecosystem that enables the fastest and easiest way to collect payments and make payouts for growing businesses," said Akash Sinha, Co-Founder and CEO, Cashfree.

Cashfree, PayPal to help Indian firms sell to 350M customers

Bengaluru, March 2 (Ians) Payments and banking technology firm Cashfree on Tuesday announced a partnership with digital payments company PayPal to enable international payments for merchants.

Businesses using Cashfree's payment gateway will be able to add the PayPal ‘Express Checkout' option to their order pages and accept payments from over 350 million customers across 200 markets and in more than 28 currencies in a secure and seamless manner.

"The new Api integration allows merchants to enable payments using their existing PayPal business accounts and start accepting and collecting global payments in no time. Further, businesses benefit from the PayPal fraud prevention and seller protection tools," said Akash Sinha, CEO & Co-founder of Cashfree.

Cashfree said it does the foreign currency exchange automatically and the amount gets credited to businesses' accounts in Indian rupee.

Amazon’s ‘Photograph’ To Make Memories This Summer
Exclusive: Amazon Studios will release Ritesh Batra’s romance feature Photograph stateside on May 17, the weekend before the Memorial Day stretch. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

The pic follows a struggling Mumbai street photographer who is pressured to wed by his grandmother. He convinces a shy stranger to pose as his fiancée during a family visit. Despite vast cultural differences, the pair develops a surprising connection that challenges their worldviews.

Photograph is screening as part of the official line-up at the Berlin International Film Festival. When the movie opens in May, it will be a limited release.
