A 4-issue horror comedy comic book series, Barstow #1 will be released on November 20th, and we have an exclusive preview you can read right now. Featuring art by Eisner Award-winner Tyler Jenkins, with letters from Justin Birch, I was immediately sucked into the town of Barstow and its mysteries while reading the first issue, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

With Oscars season thankfully behind us but the summer blockbuster season not quite in gear just yet, we're left with an odd mix of theatrical offerings: a handful of immensely successful franchise sequels, some notable bombs, and possibly some reason to hope. But don't let that fool you into thinking that there wasn't much else worth your time throughout the last few weeks. It just takes a little bit of digging to fully appreciate the hidden gems.

In practically no time at all, Shudder has established itself as the prime streaming destination for all sorts of hidden gems in the horror genre. Let's put it this way, for a recent example: Any platform that provides a home for a fever dream as genuinely unhinged and utterly unforgettable as Phil Tippett's "Mad God" deserves all the plaudits and appreciation it gets.

Not content to rest on such refreshing success stories, however, Shudder is moving ahead with its next prized acquisition. In “Glorious,” J.K. Simmons plays the voice of an ominous Lovecraftian god lurking behind the glory hole of a random roadside restroom. That’s practically all the pitch Shudder audiences need to sample this not-nearly-as-sick-as-it-sounds oddity from genre-movie superbrain Rebekah McKendry, whose expertise in all things horror outstrips her knowledge of the basics of men’s bathrooms — including what they look like and how dudes behave when they become aware that there is someone/thing heavy-breathing in the neighboring stall. Then again, getting creative with such logistics hasn’t impacted “Porky’s” place in film culture, so why should it be a deal breaker here?

It’s just that, even at 80 minutes, “Glorious” feels four times too long for what it is. Though the movie’s premise may seem juvenile, director Rebekah McKendry navigates by an inexplicable parallel-dimension sense of “good taste”: She makes it a point to avoid...

After an eternity hidden in the ether watching the life that sprang from a wound inflicted by his brothers and sisters evolve, this ancient titan (J.K. Simmons’ Ghat) realizes his role as his father’s (the creator of existence) reset button isn’t something he looks forward to fulfilling. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have much say in the matter. Director Rebekah McKendry’s newest film “Glorious” – which stars legendary character actor J.K. Simmons alongside Ryan Kwanten (“True Blood”) – world premieres at this year’s Fantasia in official selection.

Variety has had exclusive access to a teaser which hints at the film’s monstrous horror and undercurrent of humor.

The film follows Wes (Kwanten) as he waits out a hangover locked in a public restroom with a mysterious entity (Simmons) behind a glory hole. Co-written by Joshua Hull, David Ian McKendry and Todd Rigney, the story takes Wes deep into his own psyche as he wrestles with fate and a glimpse of the unthinkable in this Lovecraft-inspired comic horror.

McKendry is horror royalty, having worked for over a decade at Fangoria while lending her voice to several popular podcasts, and she shows her understanding of the medium throughout “Glorious,” pacing laughs and scares with philosophy in a vivid and cosmic mindjob.

Exclusive: Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) — also nominated this year for Being The Ricardos — have been set to star in supernatural horror movie Glorious, we can reveal.

The film, which is quietly nearing completion, has an intriguing premise. Kwanten plays a young man who is spiraling out of control after a bad breakup. His situation worsens after he finds himself locked inside a rest stop bathroom with a mysterious figure (J.K. Simmons) speaking to him from an adjacent stall. As he tries to escape, he realizes he is an unwilling player in a situation bigger than he could have imagined.

Originally released in 2018, as far as I know All The Creatures Were Stirring is the second ever Christmas horror anthology movie, with the first being the highly entertaining A Christmas Horror Story.

This one has five segments and one encompassing segment which begins and ends the film as well as linking each other segment. In this we see a man and woman who are kind of on a date at a local theatre. They meet outside and once inside are introduced to a couple of strange characters until they are eventually seated to watch the show. The first part of the show then leads into the opening segment The Stockings Are Hung.

Charlie Kaufman has never exactly been renowned for his work being straightforward. After all, you don’t come up with ideas like Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind without having a great deal of creativity and eccentricity in equal measure, and that’s without even mentioning Adaptation, which saw Nicolas Cage playing two fictionalized versions of the writer, director and novelist in a meta story about his failures to adapt a novel for the big screen.

Having taken an extended break after his psychological stop-motion tale Anomalisa bombed at the box office, with the movie proving to have such a limited niche audience that it couldn’t even recoup the $8 million budget in theaters despite widespread critical acclaim, Kaufman is back with the Netflix original I’m Thinking of Ending Things.

Like all of his previous output, it certainly isn’t designed to appeal to everyone, but...

Constance Wu is set to have her big-screen breakout in “Crazy Rich Asians” this weekend. Now fans will get another dose of Wu in the upcoming horror film “All the Creatures Were Stirring.”

Rlje Films said on Friday that it has acquired North American rights to the horror flick, which was written and directed by Blumhouse alums David Ian McKendry and Rebekah McKendry.

In addition to Wu, the film stars Amanda Fuller (“Orange is the New Black”), Jonathan Kite (“2 Broke Girls”), Jocelin Donahue (“Insidious: Chapter 2”) and Graham Skipper (“The Mind’s Eye”).

Chattanooga Film Festival was unleashed its first full wave of titles for 2018. Based on this new announcement, there is a lot of to be excited about. Newly announced world premieres include: Wolfman's Got Nards, a doc about the cult film classic Monster Squad; Icepick to the Moon, a doc about the musical madman Rev. Fred Lane, whose demented song The French Toast Man has haunted many impressionable minds over the years; and All the Creatures Were Stirring, a new feature film from Rebekah McKendry and David Ian McKendry. While it's exciting to see presents wrapped under the tree every holiday season, it's often just as thrilling to find new holiday horror movies hung with care on streaming services and at the local theater. Although it may only be February, we already have a new Christmas horror movie to look forward to this year, All the Creatures Were Stirring, directed by Rebekah McKendry (co-host of the Shock Waves podcast) and her husband, David Ian McKendry. To get you into the holiday spirit a little early this year, we have a look at Devon Whitehead's festive poster art for All the Creatures Were Stirring.

The 2nd annual PollyGrind assaults Las Vegas during an epic length film festival that runs Oct. 8-17 at Theatre 7 with enough sleaze and violence to make Sin City residents feel right at home.

Actually, the fest does open up on the 7th with a concert at Neon Venus with local acts like Monster Zero, Creepersin and many more.

However, the film portion of the fest opens on the 8th with Stuart Simpson‘s acclaimed Australian gorefest El Monstro Del Mar!, one of the best Russ Meyer/Roger Corman mash-ups with a Down Under twist. Read the Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film review of this gem here.

Other Bad Lit favorites in the lineup are Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s The Taint, which is still completely grossing out audiences on the festival circuit, and The Uh-Oh Show, the splatter-filled horror comedy by the Godfather of Gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis.
