World-exclusive from Michael Palin at Crossed Wires - a deleted scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian
Image
The Crossed Wires Podcast Festival opened with a bang yesterday as thousands gathered in Sheffield for the second edition of the UK’s biggest podcast festival, kicking off three days of live shows, exclusive audio moments and first-time surprises.

For the first time in over a decade, Michael Palin performed Monty Python material on stage in his hometown to a packed audience for Nobody expects The Michael Palin Podcast! hosted by long-time fan Greg James.

Palin treated Sheffield to a world-exclusive reading of a deleted end scene from Monty Python’s Life of Brian.Titled ‘The Martyrdom of St. Brian’, Palin struggled to get through the scene without laughing at Brian’s “fingers full of naughtiness”, which led to roars of laughter from the crowd.

With a spoof advert for protein powder setting the silliness for tales from Palin’s early dating days to Harry Nilsson’s Monty Python stage tumble,...

'Dune: Prophecy' Star Josh Heuston Reveals Season 2 Filming Date
Image
Set in the same universe as Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-winning movie franchise, Dune: Prophecyis a prequel series that aired on HBO and Max last year to generally positive reviews. The network moved quickly to renew the epic action series for Season 2 before the finale, and it seems the big-budget production will begin rolling cameras sooner rather than later. Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,00 years before the events of the film series and follows the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a super-powered sociopolitical and religious entity with far-reaching influence across the galaxy.

During an interview with Collider, Dune: Prophecy star Josh Heuston, who portrays Constantine Corrino in the show, revealed that Season 2 will begin filming this August and continue until the end of the year. There is no release date yet, but fans can probably expect the show to return on HBO and Max sometime in 2026. For reference, the first season took...

Never Judge a Book by Its Cover: Shark Tank’s Funniest $250K Pitch That Mark Herjavec Called “Full of Bs” Is Now Making $13.9 Million a Year
Image
When this wacky $250K pitch hit the Shark Tank stage, even Robert Herjavec couldn’t help but call it “full of Bs.” And well, it kind of was, on the surface. The idea sounded more like a gag gift than a legit business plan. But plot twist: that same product’s now raking in a crazy $13.9M a year.

It’s the classic “don’t judge a pitch by its punchline” story. Turns out, behind all the laughs was a money-making machine no one saw coming.

A still from Shark Tank | Credits: ABC Birddogs went from “full of Bs” to $13.9M: Shark Tank’s wildest pitch wins big

Back in Shark Tank Season 9, Peter Baldwin and Chris Mason strutted in with gym shorts, a watermelon, and enough confidence to flood the tank. They asked for $250,000 for 1.5% of their company, Birddogs, a bold, comfort-first line of men’s gym shorts with built-in liners.

‘Dune Prophecy’ Ending Explained - An Atreides, a Corrino, and a Harkonnen Walk Into the Desert...
Image
The last scene in Dune: Prophecy Season 1 could very well be the first line in a Dune-inspired joke: "So, an Atreides, a Corrino, and a Harkonnen walk into the desert..." Indeed, Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) arriving on Arrakis accompanied by Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason) and Princess Ynez Corrino (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) sounds strange, but it happens because of a very specific combination of events that both answers some of the questions the audience had, and raises new ones for the recently-approved second season.

Dune: Prophecy's Chris Mason Reveals Personal Connection to Keiran Atreides
Image
The following contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy Season 1, Episode 6, "The High-Handed Enemy," which premiered Sunday, Dec. 22 on HBO.

Whenever there's a Dune story, there has to be an Atreides in the mix. But in Dune: Prophecy, an Atreides isn't the protagonist. Chris Mason portrays Keiran Atreides -- the Imperium family's sword master, secretly working as a spy for a rebellion that was crushed in Episodes 4 and 5 of the HBO series. But as Mason tells Cbr, a rebellion never really dies.

In Keiran's case, the rebellion is still pushing him as he teams up with Princess Ynez and Valya Harkonnen, even though his family has a generations-long blood feud with the latter. Speaking with Cbr about Dune: Prophecy's Season 1 finale, Mason reveals how his upbringing in Liverpool helped shape his performance as Keiran and how he'll cope with working alongside a Harkonnen that plotted his family's downfall.

Dune: Prophecy boss teases the new plotlines on the way in season 2
Image
The first season of Dune: Prophecy wrapped up last night with "The High-Handed Enemy," an eventful episode that left many of our characters in new and unexpected places. On Wallach IX, Dorotea — a Bene Gesserit sister killed decades ago — took over the body of her granddaughter Lila (Chloe Lea) and is now trying to steer the Sisterhood in a whole new direction. Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) is now a prisoner of her son Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) on the planet Salusa Secundus, and Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) has traveled with Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and swordmaster Kieran Atredies (Chris Mason) to the desert world of Arrakis to find out who's been manipulating Desmond from behind the scenes, and why.

Those are a lot of threads to leave dangling ahead. Happily, we now know the show will continue with a second season. Unhappily, it probably won't happen for a couple of years.

Denis Villeneuve: “The movie is about America” On Taylor Sheridan’s Darkest Work That Showed the Demented Fantasy of the Greatest Nation
Image
Denis Villeneuve wasn’t messing around when he described his 2015 film as “the movie about America,” and honestly, he had a point. Taylor Sheridan’s script went straight for the jugular, tackling America’s obsession with power and control.

From the stark desert landscapes to the unsettling silences between gunfire, this film wasn’t just a thriller; it was a mirror. And the reflection? Dark, twisted, and uncomfortably honest. Sheridan’s boldest work delivered big.

Taylor Sheridan’s gripping tale of violence, idealism, and collateral damage — Sicario — was a gut punch to the demented fantasies of power and control. Denis Villeneuve turned that dark, poetic script into a cinematic work of art, shining...

Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dune: Prophecy season 1, episode 6!Dune: Prophecy showrunner Alison Schapker has explained the season 1 finale's ending location and teases what the new setting means for season 2. The ending of Dune: Prophecy sees Valya (Emily Watson) rescue Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and Keiran (Chris Mason) from imprisonment, managing to escape the planet despite pursuit from Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel). At the very end of the episode, the trio arrive on Arrakis, which has had a major impact on the story due to the dream of the sandworm the Sisterhood has been having throughout the show.

Speaking with TVLine, Schapker explained how the pull of Arrakis was important for Dune: Prophecy season 1, but that season 2 will further explore its importance to the overall narrative. This includes Valya trying to gather more information about Desmond's claim that he survived getting eaten by a sandworm. It also involves investigating who really...

Major Changes Ahead for HBO’s “Dune: Prophecy” as Series Moves to Arrakis in Season 2
Emily Watson, Mark Strong, Olivia Williams, and Travis Fimmel in Dune: Prophecy (2024)
“Dune: Prophecy” on HBO is preparing for its second season after an exciting finale revealing shocking family secrets. It set the stage for a trip to Arrakis, the famous desert planet. The sci-fi show, set 10,000 years before the story of Paul Atreides, has been officially renewed, which means that fans will learn more about this beloved world.

There were some big surprises in the Season 1 finale. The bad guy Desmond Hart, played by Travis Fimmel, is Tula Harkonnen’s secret son, played by Olivia Williams. She has kept this secret from her sister Valya, who Emily Watson plays for many years. This complicated family relationship worsens the conflict, especially since Desmond’s brief reconciliation with Tula led to her arrest.

Watson stated, “Everything has changed,” as he thought about Valya’s broken outlook. She clarified that Valya still follows her sense of destiny, even though her views have been turned upside down.

HBO’s saga of scheming space nuns and clueless royals rumbles to a close. Our review of Dune: Prophecy episode 6…

Nb: The following contains relatively minor spoilers for Dune: Prophecy episode 6. All the same, we’d advise you watch the finale first before reading the paragraphs below.

Together, dear readers, we’ve made it. Through the jarring edits, the meaningful looks, the scheming and the space weasels. Everything we’ve experienced in Dune: Prophecy so far has built to this – the grand finale. The moment where truths are revealed and scores are settled. Well, sort of.

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Showrunner Promises Much More Arrakis in Season 2
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Dune: Prophecy” Episode 6.

“Dune: Prophecy” finally took some characters to the fabled planet Arrakis in the finale of Season 1, but much more of the locale is to come in the second season.

The first season of the sci-fi prequel – which explored the rise of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides – ended with Valya (Emily Watson) escaping to the desert planet with Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussina) and Keiran (Chris Mason) as Desmond (Travis Fimmel) took more control of Salusa Secundus.

Showrunner Alison Schapker admitted at a recent press conference that Arrakis has been “exerting its pull from afar” after a season of keeping its distance — “whether that’s in the economics of spice trade or the psychological aspects and nightmares that are sort of imagery of Arrakis and Desmond’s past seeping into everyone’s consciousness.” She emphasized the satisfaction of actually...

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Returned to Franchise’s Roots in Spicy Season Finale
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the Dune: Prophecy season finale.]

The hierarchy of the Dune universe just changed.

No, the Rock was nowhere to be found on the season finale of HBO’s Dune: Prophecy. Instead, it’s a different rock taking center stage: Arrakis, the desert planet at the heart of Frank Herbert’s novels on which the show is based.

While Arrakis is referenced throughout the first six-episode season, Dune: Prophecy avoided actually bringing the planet to life onscreen, save for some brief (but important) holographic flashes. Now, the thing is well and fully on display, thanks to the last scene of the finale. The spicy world of Arraks is officially on the map, and stands ready for exploration in the recently announced season two.

In a press conference last week, Dune: Prophecy showrunner Alison Schapker said the change in scenery was decided on after “a season of Arrakis kind of exerting its pull from afar,...

Dune: Prophecy Episode 6 Review - An Action-Packed Yet Frustrating Finale Offers A Promising Glimpse Into A Superior Season 2
Image
Warning: This review contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy's season finale

After Tula discovers Desmond Hart is her son, Dune: Prophecy delivers another mixed bag of an episode. Across its first five, the prequel has varied in quality. Billed as a Bene Gesserit origin story, the series has been light on the in-fighting within the Sisterhood, focusing instead on an anti-Imperium rebellion, authoritarianism under the reign of Emperor Javico Corrino, and a strange and troubling prophecy that has something to do with the Machine War that took place before the events of the series.

Set in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series, this sci-fi epic follows the political and spiritual struggles on the desert planet of Arrakis. As factions vie for control of the prized spice melange, a prophesied hero emerges, challenging the balance of power and the fate of the galaxy.

“A truly boring character”: Dune: Prophecy’s 1 Frustrating Mistake Makes It an Unworthy Successor to Denis Villeneuve’s Masterpiece Films
Image
Denis Villeneuve has already created a masterpiece with his Dune duology. However, Warner Bros.’s poor attempt at recreating the similar scale and vision of his universe with Dune: Prophecy has failed spectacularly, to say the least.

Dune: Prophecy [Credit: HBO]

The studio could not grasp the depth and layers that the complex narrative of Villeneuve’s universe holds, let alone implement it on a subliminal level in the new series. As such, Dune: Prophecy makes a daring few attempts to rise to the levels that its parent universe laid down for the fans. But even after 6 episodes, it ultimately fails to ascend to the level of perfection that Villeneuve achieved within his 2-hour-long masterpieces.

'Dune: Prophecy’s Newest Plot Twist Changed Everything We Thought We Knew About Desmond Hart
Image
Dune: Prophecy's latest episode, "In Blood, Truth," features many decisive developments that have long been brewing in the series. For one, Mikaela's (Shalom Brune-Franklin) cover is finally blown and her identity as a member of the Bene Gesserit revealed to Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), who himself is taken into custody after learning the hard way not to leave evidence of intergalactic conspiracy out in the open. Yet, Episode 5's greatest revelation doesn't come until its final moments, and the latest turn in Alison Schapker's prequel completely redefines everything we know about Desmond Hart's (Travis Fimmel) role in the show.

Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 Spoiler Review and Recap — Shifting Alliances and Uncovering Conspiracies
Image
Episode 4 of Dune: Prophecy saw the conspiracy to dethrone Emperor Corrino reach an explosive climax with an assassination attempt getting foiled. In episode 5, we see the characters deal with the aftermath of that, but the result is much less thrilling, causing the show to fall back into the ways of its earlier episodes.

Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 Recap

At the beginning of the episode, we see Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) suiting up in a new uniform for his new role as the Emperor’s Bashar — the commander of the Sardaukar. Corrino (Mark Strong) says that now more than ever, they must defend their values. He tasks Desmond with eradicating treason, which causes Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) to storm away in anger.

Desmond encourages Corrino to prioritize showing strength over facilitating trade. Meanwhile, Sister Francesca (Tabu) arrives at the request of Constantine, who is revealed to be her son. Constantine (Josh Heuston...

Dune: Prophecy leans on its supporting cast in slick, setup-heavy fifth episode
Image
Believe it or not, we've arrived at the penultimate episode of the first season of Dune: Prophecy. Yep, there is only one more episode left in this six-episode season.

Some fans have written off the show as too short to be worth investing in, and there are points in this journey where I've thought that another episode or two could have helped. But I also want to applaud Dune: Prophecy for making the most of the time it's been alotted. A ton happened in each episode and continues to happen here.

I'll admit that I found this penultimate episode to be a little sleepy, which I attribute to it spending a lot of time with characters other than Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams). On the one hand, I commend Dune: Prophecy for committing to being an ensemble show, but I don't think it's taken the time to...

Travis Fimmel and his Dune: Prophecy costars break down last night's climactic scene
Image
The latest episode of Dune: Prophecy, "Twice Born," climaxes with an exciting scene during a meeting of the Landsraad, the group of great houses who together control the direction of the Imperium. It does not go how we expect. Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), the new attack dog of Emperor Corrino (Mark Strong) makes a public show of using his powers of immolation to execute several people who have broken the sacred prohibition against thinking machines. It's a grisly display of power that will have the great houses thinking twice before they cross the emperor.

Desmond also foils a plot to blow up the whole meeting hatched by a group of rebels, including House Corrino's own swordmaster Kieran Atreides (Chris Mason). And on top of that, the emperor's own daughter Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) calls out her dad in public for being complicit in the death of her fiancée Pruitt Richese back in the premiere episode.

‘Dune: Prophecy’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Cameos Are Fueling Comparisons
Image
When Game of Thrones ended its eight-season run with its divisive finale in 2019, it was among the most watched series of all time. So, naturally, networks across the TV landscape were clamoring to find the next show that would recapture the original's enticing blend of political intrigue, intense violence, and pitiless storytelling. Plenty of shows have been labeled "the next Game of Thrones" over the past five years, from FX's Shogun to HBO's own attempt to recapture the magic in the prequel series House of the Dragon. And with the release of Dune: Prophecy, another big-budget epic has entered the fray.

While many shows have attempted to replicate Game of Thrones' success, very few of them have come anywhere close to its level of zeitgeist-capturing popularity. Time will tell if Dune: Prophecy becomes a true successor, but one thing that makes the comparison even more inevitable is the presence of some recognizable GoT faces.

In Dune: Prophecy Episode 3, "Sisterhood Above All," we hear the name Vorian Atreides again. Uncle Evgeny Harkonnen (Mark Addy) mentions his return, sparking young Valya's (Jessica Barden) desire for revenge against the man who took everything from House Harkonnen. As if that weren't enough, her brother, Griffin (Earl Cave), later dies at Vorian's hands, too. In Episode 2, "Two Wolves," rebel leader Horace (Sam Spruell) also mentions Vorian to Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), but as a war hero. So who is this man, really?...

Who Is the Real Villain in ‘Dune: Prophecy?'
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Dune: Prophecy

The latest prequel series in the massive Dune franchise details the origins of the Bene Gesserit and chronicles the early steps the secretive sisterhood took in steering the trajectory of the Imperium from the shadows. Unlike Denis Villeneuve’s films, Dune: Prophecy takes place in the worlds beyond Arrakis and its desert sands. In fact, there’s hardly a worm in sight. What the series does possess is an array of various villains, all vying for ultimate control and power. In the show’s first episode, viewers were introduced to Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), who heartlessly used his “gift” to murder Lord Pruwet Richeseand (Charlie Hodson-Prior) and is believed to have done the same to Reverend Mother Kasha Jinjo (Jihae). As such, he’s clearly the primary villain of the series, or so viewers might have initially thought.

That being said, in a series...

One 'Dune: Prophecy' Scene Was Better Than Villeneuve's Version

Quick Links What Is the Spice Agony Ritual? The Terrifying Revelation in 'Dune: Prophecy' The Price for Power Must Be Paid in 'Dune Prophecy'

Dune: Prophecy has proven skeptics wrong, with four episodes left in the six-episode series. While the Max series, created by Alison Schapker, is set over 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), it still emulates the tone set in Dune and Dune: Part Two by director Denis Villeneuve. The films instantly became cinematic masterpieces, and Villeneuve managed to accurately adapt the story created by the author of the Dune book series, Frank Herbert.

There was, however, a concept in the films that Villeneuve barely scratched the surface of: the Spice Agony. Not only does the spin-off series center on the Harkonnen sisters, Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula (Olivia Williams), and their quest for vengeance and running The Sisterhood (the Bene Gesserit), but...

The story of Dune: Prophecy follows Valya Harkonnen, who leads the Bene Gesserit, as she plans to take control of the Imperium. To do this, she recruits Princess Ynez Corrino, heir to the Imperium, to her sisterhood.
