Mike Tyson postponed his anticipated July 20 boxing match with Jake Paul on Friday due to an ongoing ulcer flare-up and doctor’s orders.

In a statement to media, the boxing legend assured fans that he will continue training in a few weeks and the fight, which was due to stream live on Netflix, will be rescheduled.

“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover,” Tyson said in a statement. “My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good.

Netflix is getting into combat sports in a major way, picking up what it is calling a “boxing mega-event” that will see the controversial former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson face off against YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul.

Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions is partnering with Netflix on the event, which will stream live on the platform July 20 from AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

The match will be included for all Netflix subscribers (many other boxing bouts still use a pay-per-view model), though tickets will be sold to fill the 80,000-seat arena. There will also be a co-main event and undercard bouts.

Netflix’s move into live sports continues. The streamer is weighing in to the boxing arena with a fight between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and upstart Jake Paul.

The streamer will air the fight, which takes place at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday July 20.

It is the company’s latest foray into the live sports field, which launched with golf tournament The Netflix Cup and continued with tennis tournament The Netflix Slam, featuring a match between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, earlier this month.

There have been reports over the last six months that Netflix was eyeing boxing as one of its next routes into sports. Boxing has previously tended to be pay-per-view but there will be no additional cost for the fight on Netflix.

Paul started his boxing career in 2018 with a fight against Deji Olatunji and his professional debut was in 2020 against AnEsonGib.

Tommy Fury claimed victory in a highly anticipated boxing match against Jake Paul on Sunday by a split decision.

The British professional boxer and social media influencer-turned-boxer met in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. According to ESPN, although Paul put up a solid fight in the eight-round match, and even with Fury being knocked down in the final round, the Love Island star managed to outbox his opponent through the end.

“This is my first main event,” Fury said after the fight. “I’m only gonna go stronger, I’m gonna go bigger, I’m only gonna go better. … if he wants a rematch, bring it on.”

The match comes after years of calls on social media for the younger Paul brother to fight a “real” boxer. Paul has previously taken on and won against AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva — all of whom aren’t professional boxers.

Jake Paul, former Disney Channel star and now trained fighter, is no stranger to controversy and defending himself in the ring. But in his one-on-one interview on “Game Theory” with Emmy-winning journalist, Bomani Jones, Paul found himself against the ropes looking for someone to throw in the towel. Instead, it was the former Disney Channel star who ended the uncomfortable moment with the slamming of his laptop and a “have a nice f—ing day.”

ESPN notes that, in the fourth round, Woodley delivered a massive blow that threw Paul against the ropes -- though the 24-year-old was able to rally, remaining dominant throughout the rest of the bout.

Mike Tyson’s latest comeback is already breaking records, before the former heavyweight champ has even stepped into the ring. The streaming site, Fite, says sales for tonight’s pay-per-view fight between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. have shattered pre-sale records for digital PPV buys even before the big event.

Fite says the exhibition boxing bout, which pits “Iron Mike” against the former four-division world champion Jones, is expected to be the most-watched event to date in the site’s five-year history of live sports streaming.

Former NBA player Nate Robinson will fight YouTube star Jake Paul as the undercard for the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. exhibition bout on Sep. 12.

The news was announced by The Athletic’s Shams Charania and a rep for the event confirmed the two opponents’ participation.

Robinson, who was one of the league’s shortest players at 5’9”, played for 11 seasons in the NBA, most notably with the New York Knicks. Games will be shown on CBS and CBS Sports Network, with more than 20 hours throughout the season on the former and more than 25 hours on the latter.

The 26-year-old Boston Celtics player, who recently starred in the basketball comedy Uncle Drew, announced on Monday that he would be starring in an upcoming, untitled horror film about a haunted Oklahoma hotel, Variety reported.

Unlike his previous film, however, Irving will be executive producing the movie — a first for his career.

Teaming up with Imagine Entertainment’s chairmen Brian Grazer and Bobby Cohen, Irving will help tell the folklore-inspired story of the legendary Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City.
