Blake Lively's 10-Year-Old Romance Drama With 55% Rt Score Becomes a Hit on Streaming
Image
They say all press is good press, and the recent It Ends With Us drama proves that. Following the success of the adaptation, another Blake Lively film is a big success on streaming.

The first role Blake Lively took following the end of her hit series Gossip Girl in 2012, where she played Serena van der Woodsen, was 2015's The Age of Adaline. The film is a supernatural fantasy romance, where Lively plays Adaline Bowman, a woman who stops aging after an accident at the age of twenty-nine. Almost a decade since the film's release, The Age of Adaline is a big hit on Netflix, taking over the eighth spot in the U.S. charts.

South Korea’s leading movie studio, Cj Entertainment, is developing 10 film projects in Hollywood. Two of them, North American versions of “Miss Granny” and “Hide and Seek,” are set to start production this year.

The Age of Adaline movie review: time enough for love
A pleasant and undemanding romantic drama that takes great care not to upset you unduly with strong emotion or embarrassing passion. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Adaline has been 29 years old for 80 years. Her life must be amazing, right? Not so much, actually. She has built up a truly stunning wardrobe over the decades, allowing her to dress with classy timeless style. She kicks ass at Trivial Pursuit; apparently a good memory for current events goes along with extended lifespan, though you might think at some point her brain would get overfull. (Yes. A movie about a person who must have had some extraordinary adventures spends time on a “she plays a board game” scene. Perhaps the film is saying, “Look, it’s even harder to fill your days when you’re immortal, okay?...

Film Review: Intoxicating ‘The Age of Adaline’ a Featherweight Fantasy
Chicago – “The Age of Adaline” is a beautifully shot featherweight fantasy that remains charming as long as you don’t think about it too hard, or at all. At one point one character asks another why he loves Adaline, and he replies “because she makes no sense.” The same could be said for this movie.

It doesn’t make a lick of sense but I enjoyed it and it’s intoxicating in its own way. It goes down easy like a good “Manhattan” or some other vintage cordial of the era.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

Blake Lively stars as Adaline, a pretty young woman who has a Zelig-like quality of being involved in just about every major event to happen in San Francisco in the first half of the 20th century. She’s born just after the great earthquake after all, on new years eve and gets herself into the movies when Thomas Edison...

Michiel Huisman and Blake Lively in Adaline (2015)
Review: 'The Age of Adeline' is gorgeous but also a complete mess
Michiel Huisman and Blake Lively in Adaline (2015)
Nothing is more frustrating than watching a film with so much potential make one disastrous mistake after another. That, sadly, is the disappointing reality of Lee Toland Kreiger's "The Age of Adaline." The movie's premise is easy to grasp: 29-year-old Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) was born at the turn of the century, but after a strange car accident in the 1930's she discovers she will not age a single day more.  Decades pass as her daughter ages beyond her, and she begins taking false identities to avoid being discovered by the press or, worse, government agents who might have suspicions about her status.  The latter might also want to make her a guinea pig to discover why she's become immortal (a story tangent the film quickly abandons). By 2014, Bowman seems resigned to a life of loneliness until Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman of "Game of Thrones") spots her across the room...

While we wait for word on Star Wars: Episode VII and Indiana Jones 5, screen legend Harrison Ford has signed on to a decidedly different adventure, a romantic drama called The Age of Adaline. He'll join a cast that already includes Blake Lively and Ellen Burstyn. An original screenplay by J. Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz, The Age of Adaline centers on the titular 29-year-old woman, who is destined for an incredible and strange life. Born in the turn of the 20th Century, Adaline is made effectively immortal after recuperation from a nearly fatal incident stops her from aging. Removed from the natural progress of humanity, she becomes isolated, forced to hide her secret and move about to keep others from discovering it. But all this could change when she meets a man who might have the power to alter her. Lively and Burstyn (which together sounds like a great...

Harrison Ford On For The Age Of Adaline
Harrison Ford
Unlike some of his contemporaries – yes, Bruce, we’re looking at you – Harrison Ford keeps hopping between genres. Recently we’ve seen him in comedy (Anchorman 2) and sci-fi (Ender’s Game) and he’s part of action extravaganza The Expendables 3. To tick 'romantic drama' off his list in its turn, he’s just joined the cast of Lakeshore Entertainment’s The Age Of Adaline.Written by J. Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz (with some recent polishing by Allison Burnett), the film follows Blake Lively as the 29 year-old title character, who mysteriously stops ageing after surviving a terrible accident.Through the 20th century she starts an epic journey and tells no one her secret, until she meets someone who forever changes her life. Though her exact role hasn’t been made clear, Ellen Burstyn is on board to co-star, with Lee Toland Krieger set to get the cameras rolling in March.

Ellen Burstyn And Blake Lively Join Ageless Romantic Drama The Age Of Adaline
Of all the genres that employ high concepts within their stories, romantic dramas are somewhere at the bottom of the list, often opting for more realistic storytelling without stretching the imagination. Lionsgate will be bucking that trend, as it has signed on to distribute the long-gestating project The Age of Adaline from Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Lakeshore Entertainment. Not only that, but they.ve made an interesting director choice in Lee Toland Krieger (Celeste & Jesse Forever), and landed a pair of stars in the Academy Award winning actress Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn.t Live Here Anymore) and Gossip Girl.s Blake Lively. Still no word on a male lead yet, but this influx of talent should attract a pretty recognizable name to the role. With a script written by J. Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz, The Age of Adaline will follow the 29-year-old title character whose life takes a dramatic...

‘Elegy’ Director Isabel Coixet Enters ‘The Age of Adaline’
Isabel Coixet has taken a slightly low-profile approach since 2008′s Elegy, having helmed a feature that never hit the U.S., a short, and a documentary I can’t find much about to begin with. But that period of quietness is about to end, as THR informs us that Isabel Coixet has been hired to direct her English-language follow-up to Elegy, a romantic fantasy tale titled The Age of Adaline. Once meant for Katherine Heigl to lead and Gabrielle Muccino to direct, the film revolves around a young woman at the turn of the 20th century who’s granted immortality, and how she questions the need to maintain this gift after meeting a young man; J. Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz wrote the screenplay.

Although most of her other films have received little-to-no exposure in the United States — even Elegy, which starred Ben Kingsley, Penélope Cruz, and Dennis Hopper was...

Katherine Heigl Out Of 'Adaline'
Katherine Heigl at an event for L'abominable vérité (2009)
Update: Lakeshore and the actress' camp are denying she was fired, said producer Gary Lucchesi: "Heigl's Paradigm agent Norm Aladjem called us last night, saying that Heigl asked to withdraw. There was no drama here." Exclusive: Katherine Heigl this morning withdrew from Adaline, the Lakeshore/Kimmel Entertainment-produced film that was to begin production in March. Word has circulated that there was some acrimony involved -- the word racing around Hollywood is she was fired after disagreements with Lakeshore -- but  both Lakeshore and the actress' camp are completely denying this. Heigl, they said, recently adopted a daughter, and wasn't ready to go back to work. The role will be re-cast immediately. "She has made two movies with us and we certainly support her decision," said Lakeshore partner Gary Lucchesi, a producer of the film. "We were scheduled to shoot mid-March and we hope to achieve that. We are great...

Angela Lansbury as Katherine Heigl's Daughter: Adaline
Angela Lansbury, Laurence Harvey in John Frankenheimer's The Manchurian Candidate Angela Lansbury, the three-time Oscar nominee well-remembered today thanks to the cheesy television series Murder She Wrote, will play Katherine Heigl's daughter in Adaline, to be directed by Andy Tennant, the man who brought you The Bounty Hunter, Fool's Gold, and Sweet Home Alabama. This isn't one of those serious movies about people aging prematurely. Much to the contrary. Adaline (Heigl) stops aging after she dies in a car crash and is resurrected by one of Zeus' thunderbolts (lightning, for the scientifically inclined). Eventually she meets a man who makes her reconsider her immortality. That's also when ailing daughter Lansbury needs Adaline's help. According to Deadline's Mike Fleming, J. Mills Goodloe and Sal Paskowitz penned the screenplay, which is currently "getting revisions" from Allison Burnett. Summit Entertainment will distribute Adaline, which begins shooting in April 2011. Lansbury is...

Give director Andy Tennant credit for thinking outside the box. Faced with having to cast an actress to play the daughter of Katherine Heigl, he chose Angela Lansbury. No, really. The film is Adaline, the Sidney Kimmel Entertainment?Lakeshore co-production that stars Heigl as the title character. Long ago, she was killed in a car accident, until a simultaneous lightning strike resuscitated her and physiologically locked her in her late 20s. Adaline lives a solitary existence until she meets a man worth losing her immortality to grow old with. Lansbury plays her daughter, who, in her mid-80s, needs her mother's care as her health declines. J Mills Goodloe and Sal Paskowitz wrote a script that is getting revisions from Allison Burnett. The pic shoots in April and Summit will distribute. Fortitude-repped Lansbury is currently shooting Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Andy Tennant Directing Adaline
Katherine Heigl at an event for L'abominable vérité (2009)
A couple of months ago, it was announced that Katherine Heigl had discovered the secret to immortality, and it wasn’t keeping a creepy painting in her attic. Nope, it was drinking the blood of goats and sacrificing garden gnomes to the great god underneath her local Ikea. Wait, not that either. It was starring in the fantasy romance The Age of Adaline. Well, now it’s just called Adaline and it has a director in Andy Tennant.Written by J Mills Goodloe and Sal Paskowitz, with recent polishing by Feast of Love’s Allison Burnett, Adaline is the story of a beautiful woman who appears young, but has actually been around a fair bit longer than her fresh-faced looks might indicate. Following a mysterious accident, she’s been gifted, or, as some would see it, cursed with never aging. But when she meets a man who may risk his...

Katherine Heigl and Director Andy Tennant Unite for Adaline
Veteran rom-com director Andy Tennant (The Bounty Hunter) and veteran rom-com star Katherine Heigl (Killers) will be putting their knowledge of the genre to work in the upcoming, no surprises here, rom-com Adaline. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film “will revolve around a beautiful woman (Heigl) who hasn’t aged for 100 years. Although this doesn’t sound like such a raw deal, as the story goes, Heigl meets a man who may be willing to risk it all to help her regain her mortality.” How romantic…oh, and funny. Purely speculating, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Heigl realizes she would rather lose her immortality than live forever without a good man to take care of her. I’m also going to guess that this important life lesson will be marketed to girls 13 and under.

Heigl was already attached to star, but when we...
