Matt Owens, a co-showrunner of Netflix’s “One Piece,” is stepping down from the live-action series adaptation to focus on his mental health.
“The last six years working on the live-action One Piece have been a life-changing journey. A dream come true. It’s also been A Lot. So I’m stepping off the Going Merry to take a break and focus on myself and my mental health,” Owens wrote on Instagram. “For now I’m gonna take a breath, do some therapy, try and rank up in Marvel Rivals, and come back refreshed for the new adventures that await.”
His departure comes after filming on Season 2 wrapped last month.

“One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda is giving his official thumbs up on Season 2 of the Netflix original. The creator visited the set in Cape Town, South Africa, and shared his thoughts with fans.

New cast members have been revealed for the second season of Netflix's live-action One Piece series. This includes who will play Dr. Kureha following the news that Jamie Lee Curtis had missed out on the role.
Per Deadline, Katey Sagal has boarded the cast of Netflix's One Piece. She will be playing the role of Dr. Kureha, a character who was previously confirmed to appear in Season 2. Additionally, it was reported that Mark Harelik (Preacher) had signed on to play the similarly-named character Dr. Hiriluk. Like. Dr. Kureha, Dr. Hiriluk was another character introduced in the original manga by Eiichiro Oda.
