Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei (2025)
Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei (2025) Movie Review: Srijit Mukherji’s Haunting Courtroom of the Subconscious
Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei (2025)
A legal thriller in Bengali, “Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei” (2025) by Srijit Mukherji is a modern-day adaptation of “12 Angry Men” (1957) and its Hindi remake, “Ek Ruka Hua Faisla” (1986). The title of Mukherji’s rendition is derived from a haunting line in the song “Ei Srabon” by Anupam Roy, which alludes to the deeper psychological divisions between perception and truth that the film examines. With an ensemble cast featuring Kaushik Ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Ritwick Chakraborty, and others, the film stages a riveting drama inside the claustrophobic confines of a High Court Judge’s subconscious, where twelve individuals (or rather mental projections of the Judge) must confront their own biases and prejudices while deciding the fate of a young kid accused of murder.

The subconscious mind transports the characters to various locations deeply personal to Brajeswar: his study room, the golf course he habitually goes to, a theater where...

What’s Good: The zany goings-on, and the hilarious lines well-supported by visuals

Language: Hindi

Available On: Theatrical release

Runtime: 158 minutes

User Rating:

A con-man, Rooh Baba (Kartik Aaryan), earning his living as a ghost-buster is employed by Meera (Triptii Dimri) and her maternal uncle (Rajesh Sharma) to bust a myth in the haveli of a king. The fable to be falsified (for a remuneration of a crore!) is that a spirit named Manjulika (Vidya Balan) resides behind a locked room in the palace.

Kanchan Mullick debuts as director on stage
Kanchan Mullick, the quintessential comedian of Bengali cinema, is back on stage and how! After making his mark as an actor, Kanchan has finally made his directorial debut with Bratya Basu’s Ekdin Aladin with Paikpara Indraranga. “I just realised that directing is not an easy job. You will become like a konyadayegrostho pita. From lights and sets to the acting department — you have to take care of everything,” Kanchan told us. Ekdin Aladin is a slapstick comedy — a new flavour for Indraranga. The play was staged earlier under the direction of Premangshu Roy. But playwright Bratya Basu took away the rights from him after Premangshu was marred by controversy.
