An Award-Winning Thriller Featuring Rami Malek Is Now On Netflix & Fans Are Already Impressed!(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Netflix has made a smart move by adding Mr. Robot to its lineup, and fans couldn’t be happier. The platform, known for pushing its own original titles, occasionally drops a series from outside its walls that ends up stealing the spotlight, and this one already proved its worth before arriving. It has four seasons, racked up multiple major awards, and has a grip on viewers that never really lets go.

What Is Mr. Robot About?

The series, created by Sam Esmail and led by Rami Malek, explores the life of Elliot Alderson, a gifted cybersecurity engineer in New York who spends his nights as a hacker. He’s quiet and withdrawn, dealing with heavy mental battles, and soon finds himself swept into a secret group called fsociety.

This 94% Crime Thriller Led by an Oscar-Winning Actor Is an Instant Streaming Hit
Image
Mr. Robot is back, and this time, it's gaining ground on Netflix in impressive fashion. In its first few days since launching on the platform on July 3, the crime-tech thriller has surged onto the Top 10. It's an unsurprising success given how popular and well-received the show was when it first premiered in 2015 on the USA Network. Now, a decade later, the show is proving just how powerful its cult status is, as returning fans have helped push the title up the charts, precisely from the #7 spot on the first day to #5 in just a few days. It's a well-deserved second wind that will likely last for a while, as this resurgence is sure to earn it a slew of new fans.

Headlining the series is Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek, who plays Elliot Alderson, a brilliant but mentally unstable cybersecurity engineer by day and vigilante hacker by night. The actor delivered...

Twisted, Timely, Brilliant: Why Mr. Robot is the Perfect Binge
Image
As a TV Fanatic, there’s nothing more thrilling than watching a whole new audience discover a fantastic show that you love.

Fortunately, whenever Netflix picks up a dated megahit, it often breathes new life into that series, bringing with it a wave of renewed praise, viral discourse, and overdue appreciation.

We saw it with the Suits Renaissance. Animal Kingdom had its moment. And now? Mr. Robot has just landed in its entirety on Netflix, and the timing could not be more perfect or more eerily relevant.

(Scott McDermott/USA Network) Mr. Robot Has Mindbending, Deliciously Twisty, Innovative Storytelling

Seriously, Mr. Robot is one of the best-written series of all time. You can take that as hyperbole, or you can trust us and binge it.

There’s nothing quite like this series, and in an age where so much of television feels like more of the same, that speaks volumes.

‘Mr. Robot’ Just Hacked Into a New Streaming Home
Image
One of the most acclaimed dramas of the past decade has found a new streaming home. Netflix has announced that all four seasons of Mr. Robot will become a part of their catalog on July 3. The announcement comes more than five years after the series came to a close on the USA Network. The drama thriller created by Sam Esmail followed Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), senior cybersecurity engineer at Allsafe Cybersecurity. While the protagonist's job description sounds perfectly adequate, Elliot also secretly functions as a dangerous hacker.

The story of Mr. Robot positioned Elliot in the middle of a complicated situation due to his addiction issues. While Rami Malek's character is struggling to keep his life together, Darlene (Carly Chaikin) reveals that she's one of the hackers from the organization attempting to recruit her brother for very important assignments. Mr. Robot thrilled audiences over the course of four seasons. Across forty-five episodes,...

Every Season Of Rami Malek's Mr. Robot, Ranked
Image
In the broader culture, "Mr. Robot" is known as the show that started off great but quickly devolved into a meandering mess. You can see this with how the ratings plummeted sharply with the second season. By the time season 4 aired in 2019, the show was averaging a little more than a quarter of the viewership it was getting back in 2015. Seasons 3 and 4 may have been well-received by critics and the show's remaining fans, but that wasn't enough to convince viewers to return.

Among the fans who've stuck to the very end, season 2 is still known as "the bad one," the season they warn new viewers about ahead of time. The narrative is that this is the season you have to struggle through to get to the reward of seasons 3 and 4. But I for one think that's a flawed narrative. If I leave this Earth having accomplished only one thing, let...

Daniel’s Gotta Die Review: A Caribbean Conspiracy
Image
Jeremy Lalonde, familiar for character-driven comedies, shifts sharply into darker territory with Daniel’s Gotta Die, marking Bob Saget’s final screen turn as the sly executor Lawrence. The film signals its intent from a Saul Bass–inspired title sequence that nods to mid-century thrillers, then plunges into satirical suspense.

Daniel Powell (Joel David Moore), a sous chef whose relentless cheer defines him, suddenly inherits his affluent father’s empire—on one condition: he must spend a weekend with his resentful half-siblings at their family’s opulent Cayman Islands retreat. Should they bond under Edward Powell’s bizarre chores, the fortune divides; if not, Daniel claims it all.

That seaside villa, with its colonial architecture and sun-bleached corridors, becomes a crucible where North American notions of entitlement clash with Caribbean echoes of wealth and inheritance. Lush palms and pastel walls belie lurking danger, as visual framing shifts between widescreen elegance and tight,...

'Mr. Robot' Ending Explained - "Hello, Elliot"
Image
The USA Network was once home to a number of great TV series, including Mr. Robot. The cyber-thriller from Sam Esmail chronicled the life of cybersecurity expert Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), who moonlights as a hacker in part to bring down the massive conglomerate Ecorp. To accomplish his goals, Elliot joins the hacktivist group known as society, seemingly led by a mysterious anarchist named Mr. Robot (Christian Slater). Mr. Robot is constantly playing with the nature of Elliot's reality to reveal some dark truths, such as the fact that his fellow hacker Darlene (Carly Chaikin) is actually his sister and his dissociative identity disorder was born of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his parents but even that was set up for a finale that pulled out the rug from the viewers' feet.

The Best TV Shows About Hackers
Image
Online security is tantamount, especially now with the rise in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, online shopping, and stories about devastating data breaches at massive companies. Its no surprise, then, that hackers are an interesting topic and character type to cover in TV shows.

Hackers typically fall into a specific stereotype: theyre reclusive and socially awkward but also fiercely intelligent. In some shows, hackers have sinister ideas, even if there are good purported intentions behind them. In others, theyre downright heroes, using their computer skills for good, often as the brains behind an operation that the brawn cant do their jobs without.

Kevin Buchholz Proves Sound Can Be 50 Percent of TV Storytelling
Image
Sound should be 50 percent of filmmaking, but too often, it’s not. This is doubly true of television, where the pre-planning required to fully incorporate sound design into the creator’s vision, and the time it takes to then execute, is incongruous with the assembly line schedule of producing episodes back-to-back, week in and week out. So how does a TV creator like Sam Esmail, for whom sound is actually 50 perfect of his storytelling, pull it off on “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming”? The answer is supervising sound editor Kevin Buchholz. “There’s a deeper connection that you can [make] with sound,” Esmail said. “But for me to really get a handle, even if it’s just prepping and looking for locations, it really is about how can I also include this other 50 percent, the audio, in the final experience. So Kevin is there and very informative at every step along the way.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 10 Review: Gone
As the Deus Group crumbles, Dom and Darlene must wrestle with the question of who they want to become in Mr. Robot's brave new world.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 10

Last week, Mr. Robot gave us its best episode of the season – an intense and stressful hour that saw Elliot and Darlene finally triumph over Whiterose and the villainous Deus Group. That the series chooses to follow up that installment with a meandering character piece in which Elliot only appears for five minutes is a perfect example of both the best and worst of Mr. Robot season 4 all at once.

As an individual episode, “Gone” is pretty solid. It’s focused almost exclusively on the series’ women, and provides some much-needed context to the emotional journeys both Dom and Darlene have been on this season. It’s the first episode that’s...

Join TV Fanatic to Give Thanks for All Things Television!
It's the time of the year where we give thanks for the good things in our lives.

And those good things include TV shows, well-developed and strong characters, healthy relationships, good plotlines, and more!

Here's some of what TV Fanatic is thankful for in 2019 (in no particular order).

Malcolm Jamal Warner's Aj Austin & Minator on The Resident

Aj has come such a long way on The Resident and digging into his background has been such a beautiful experience. Warner brings so much heart to this lovable, arrogant, complex teddy bear of a character.

And yeah, everyone enjoys talking about CoNic, but Minator has been quietly stealing their thunder as this endearing slow-burn ship that makes you giggly. -- Jasmine

Elite

Elite came back on Netflix for a second season that was just as compelling and twisted as the first season. It's one of the more fun binge-watching series that Netflix has to offer.

'Mr. Robot' Final Season Delivers the Drama's Most Devastating Moment Yet in Ad-Free Episode
[This story contains spoilers for season four, episode seven, of USA Network's Mr. Robot, "407 Proxy Authentication Required."]

Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) and Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) are one and the same. Darlene (Carly Chaikin) is Elliot's sister. Elliot spent most of the second season in an illusory world designed to mask his imprisonment. In addition to Mr. Robot and Elliot, there may be an "other one."

These are just a few of the staggering revelations found throughout Sam Esmail's USA Network thriller, which focuses on a computer hacker's crusade against the most powerful ...

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Not Acceptable
Moral lines are crossed as Mr. Robot season 4 pushes into the next phase of its story.

This Mr. Robot review contains spoilers.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 6

In a show like Mr. Robot, it’s easy to view Elliot Alderson as a hero. And in many ways, he is. After all, he’s battled against the oppressive forces of capitalism, exploitative corporations, and the shadowy elite cabals that dictate how the world works for the majority of its citizens. Next to all those evils, a hacker with a drug addiction and occasionally questionable morals pretty much looks like Superman. But it doesn’t mean that’s truly the case.

“Not Acceptable” is the first Mr. Robot installment in a long time that reminds us that Elliot’s mission can and does involve deeply questionable moral choices, and that his decisions often leave significant collateral damage in their wake.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 4 Review: Not Found
Mr. Robot drops the strangest Christmas episode ever, as the Alderson siblings find themselves on parallel holiday journeys.

This Mr. Robot review contains spoilers.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 4

Happy holidays from Mr. Robot, which seems as unconcerned as ever with actually wrapping up any aspect of its final season’s story. In place of the answers—or at the very least, minimal forward plot progression—we likely expected here, “Not Found” instead offers us a bizarre holiday tale, in which Elliot, Darlene, Dom and Tyrell face down some demons of both the literal and figurative variety on Christmas Eve.

First, some facts. Even though Elliot stole Olivia Cortez’s Cyprus login information, she doesn’t have high enough security clearance to achieve the Alderson siblings’ goal of wiping out Whiterose’s financial holdings. It’s Christmas Eve, and the mysterious Deus Group is set to meet the next day,...

Hulu's Halloween Episode of Into the Dark Is Like Jumanji Soaked in Nightmare Fuel
Viewed through a certain lens, Jumanji can be classified as a horror film. A young boy being sucked into a board game, left to fend for himself in the wild for decades? Another young boy turned into a hideous monkey-person? Giant, skittering spiders dripping with poison? A massive, bloodthirsty plant? All the Robin Williams jokes in the world can't erase the fact that the 1995 movie is essentially a nightmarish spin on every parents' "it's just a game" ethos. There's no mistaking the genre of the Halloween-themed episode of Hulu's Into the Dark, though, which takes the scariest elements from Jumanji and runs with them.

Into the Dark is Hulu's anthology series in partnership with Blumhouse, which has steadily churned out an episode of season-appropriate horror since premiering last October. Though it's usually hit-and-miss - I recommend December's "New Year, New You," episode starring Suki Waterhouse and Carly Chaikin, and...

The Not-So-Revolutionary Road of ‘Mr. Robot’
Sam Esmail
When Mr. Robot debuted in the summer of 2015, none of its individual components were clearly new. The cyberpunk drama’s then-unknown creator, Sam Esmail, readily copped to the influences of paranoid Seventies thrillers like The Parallax View. Late in that first season, the show even played a piano version of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” as a tip of the cap to Fight Club, from which Esmail liberally borrowed the idea that his title character, played by Christian Slater, was actually an alternate personality of hacker hero Elliot Alderson...

Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
TV Review: ‘Mr. Robot’ Season 4
Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
It can be easy to forget quite how big a deal, in its early going, “Mr. Robot” was.

It eventually became, fairly enough, a hallmark for narrative and directorial excess. But the series, about Elliot, a hacker attempting to remake America, had the real-life effect of remaking the USA Network, shifting the cabler conclusively away from its previous model of sunny workplace dramedy. Its broader implications included the launches of executive producer Sam Esmail, with Amazon’s “Homecoming” and USA’s forthcoming “Briarpatch” to his credit, and star Rami Malek. And its conceit, that the world is governed by entities interested in seeding chaos for their own benefit, has seemed more urgent since the show’s 2015 premiere. The near-perfect first season had the right talent and the right timing.

But subsequent seasons’ refusal to consider the world outside Elliot’s head diminished its viewership and reputation. So it is that Season 4, the show’s last,...

Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
‘Mr. Robot’ Team Talks Sending the Hacker Drama Off in Style
Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
Creating shows in this golden age of television has pushed storytelling to new heights, bolstered network recognition with the debut of sole marquee series and driven top-tier talent to limited-event runs. But few of these hundreds of series to unroll over the past half-decade have also redefined an entire network while pumping out prolific content that’s rife with homages to an entire cinematic library, generating hundreds of speculative Reddit offshoots in the process.

So perhaps from a pressure standpoint it was for the best that when the writers’ room fired up for the fourth season of USA’s hacker-centric “Mr. Robot,” creator Sam Esmail wasn’t aware he was entering the show’s final season. As with the titular character’s true identity, that revelation didn’t come until later, when Esmail and other creatives deliberated how much story there was between the third-season reset-ending and the final two...

‘Mr. Robot’: Ashlie Atkinson Joins Fourth & Final Season As Series Regular
Ashlie Atkinson
Exclusive: Ashlie Atkinson (BlacKkKlansman) is set as a series regular opposite Rami Malek and Christian Slater on the upcoming fourth and final season of USA Network’s Mr. Robot, from creator Sam Esmail and Universal Content Prods.

Mr. Robot stars Oscar winner Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group fsociety, after being recruited by its leader (Slater).

Atkinson will play Janice, a chatty taxidermist with a peculiar sense of humor.

The series co-stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer and Bd Wong.

Aktinson last year starred in Spike Lee’s and Focus Features’ Oscar nominated film, BlacKkKlansman and also was recently seen in the Netflix film Juanita alongside Alfre Woodard. On the television side, Atkinson’s recent roles include Syfy’s Happy, FX’s Emmy-nominated series, Fosse/Verdon and CBS All Access’ One Dollar. Atkinson is repped by TalentWorks and Rosier Artist Management.

Gloomy New Trailer for Mr. Robot Season 4 - This Is an Endless War
The USA Network has released a new trailer for the fourth and final season of Mr. Robot. The next season is set during the holidays, but don’t let that fool you… this is a gloomy trailer that’s not meant to bring joy and peace into the world.

I’ve enjoyed the hell out of this series, and with this new trailer teasing an endless war, I’m really curious to see how this story comes to a close. It was also announced that Mr. Robot Season 4 would premiere on Sunday, October 6th at 10/9c.

Here’s the synopsis for the show:

Mr. Robot follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a former cyber-security engineer who became involved in the underground hacker group society, after being recruited by their leader (Slater). The group successfully pulled off their five/nine hack on multi-national company Evil Corp in the first season, causing a global...
