The opening of Whiteout creates disorientation, mirroring the chaos the protagonist experiences. Derek Barnes tells the story with minimal background information, making the audience share Henry’s confusion. This approach matches survival’s unpredictable nature, as the plot develops parallel to the severe wilderness setting.
The story alternates intense action scenes—like the labor camp escape—with quiet, contemplative sequences where characters fight against the icy environment. Similar to Godard’s films, the calm moments build tension. Barnes grounds this experimental style through realistic survival elements, keeping viewers connected to Henry’s ordeals.
The final section shifts toward psychological horror. Fear and distrust spread among the escapees, building suspense and terror, showing how desperate humans behave unpredictably. The changed tone serves the story’s main idea: surviving requires both physical stamina and mental strength.
A Journey from Captivity to Chaos
Whiteout starts with a sudden drop into its stark premise.

After escaping a brutal Russian labor camp, three men must overcome the treacherous wilderness and each other, as their journey home turns into a brutal fight for survival. Saban Films is putting Derek Barnes' action flick, White Out, out on VOD & Digital on November 22nd, 2024. They have sent along an exclusive clip to share with you today. You will find it and the trailer down below. It appears to the moment that our main characters escape from the Russian labor camp. It is a wee bit chaotic and frantic, as mass prison escape attempts are, we imagine. But it is violent. If that floats your boat then check it out below. White Out was directed by Derek Barnes. It was...

"The wilderness is our prison now..." Saban Films has revealed the official trailer for Whiteout, an intense survival thriller film from Canada. The film premiered under the original title Walking Supply instead, showing at one film festival in late 2023, now set for a November release this fall. That original title is a bit clunky and strange, though Whiteout is also too generic and doesn't tease anything about this story at all. This the thrilling survival story of three men who escape from a Russian labor camp and must overcome the treacherous wilderness & each other as their journey turns into a brutal fight for survival. Directed by Derek Barnes who states: "As a stuntman turned filmmaker, Walking Supply is a dream come true. From dangling off cliffs to falling into frozen lakes, climbing up mountains and smashing trucks through gates – this is the type of high-octane, independent, venturous project that I’ve always wanted to tackle.

Stuntman-turned-director Derek Barnes has expanded his 2016 short Walking Supply into a feature, which made its world premiere at this year’s Blood in the Snow film festival.
Walking Supply opens with a bang as the Russian offices of an international corporation are raided by armed men of unknown origin who kidnap several of the staff. The men end up in a labour camp, and the women probably have an even worse fate. They’re told if their company pays for their release, they’ll be freed. Until then, work until you drop if you don’t want to starve.
Henry is saved from the lecherous attentions of some of the other inmates by Kurt and Anthony. Henry repairs electrical devices for the camp’s commander which puts...

Following the massive success of The Blair Witch Project, production company Haxan Films kept the found-footage train going with FreakyLinks (originally titled Fearsum). While not everyone recognizes this hidden horror gem of television, those who do might recall its harrowing history. Considered by many to be ahead of its time, FreakyLinks is an entertaining time-capsule of what it was like to be on the weirder side of the internet before the turn of the 21st century.
Prior to its TV debut, FreakyLinks’ developers launched a paranormal-sleuthing website similar to the homespun one seen in the show. Sadly, the internet marketing did not pay off; shortly after premiering on Fox in October of 2000, the series was temporarily taken off the schedule due to low ratings. The network aired more new episodes that following January, yet once again, Fox pulled the plug. After the remaining episodes were burned off in June of...

Oh, the internet. It was the best of times and now possibly the worst of times, but the best times– oh were they something. No, it’s not Ghostwriter. No, it’s not Hackers. Time to hang up that phone and get into some Freakylinks.
In 1999, The Blair Witch Project came out of nowhere and brought Horror into a new realm. Welcome to the internet – when there was still some sort of whimsy and anonymity. A time when a small group of college students could go and make an amateur documentary and make people feel like they had actually disappeared. What a wonderful time it was. The movie was an instant sensation. So what do you do when...

The first trailer for Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, a film co-produced by Ellen DeGeneres, has arrived!
Nancy Drew has been the heroine of young girls everywhere since the 1930s. Now the famous sleuth is returning to the silver screen for the first time since 2007. If the first trailer is any indication, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase looks to be a refreshing origin story for the amateur detective.
After the death of his wife, Carson Drew decides to leave Chicago behind and make a fresh start with his daughter in River Heights. But for 16-year-old Nancy Drew, life in a small town is mighty dull. She longs for excitement, adventure, and the chance to make a difference. Nancy gets that opportunity when she is asked to help solve the ghostly activity at the Twin Elms mansion. Can she help explain the creaking footsteps, exploding lightbulbs and the ominous creature?...
