Michael Hecker was born on March 30, 1936, in Hamburg, Germany. His
family immigrated to the United States in 1948. He learned English by
spending many hours in the movie theaters of New York City. The films
he saw fascinated him, especially "Key Largo" and "The Lady from
Shanghai". These films told exciting stories through great photography.
He wanted to make similar films when he was older. During his last year
of high school, he experimented with a 16-mm camera and a tape
recorder. Before he graduated, he shot and edited his first sound film.
Fifty-two years later, he retired from a successful career as an electrical engineer and a medical scientist. He had saved enough money to make several short films that reflect his interests and tastes. As an independent producer, he wrote screenplays about critical events in the lives of ordinary people. He hired professional directors, actors, and crews to bring his stories to life. On each production, he was the cinematographer and the editor. Three of his films premiered at the California Independent Film Festival. These films were later distributed on DVDs.
