Stars: Jenny Tran, Alisha Soper, William Gabriel Grier, Aly Trasher, Eddy Acosta, Tim Simek, Rosanne Limeres, Patrick Joseph Rieger, Laura Buckles | Written by Jonathan Buchanan | Directed by Travis Greene

Opening his feature debut across a long stretch of road, director Travis Greene showcases the isolated location where the story will unfold. Arriving at the secluded desert home she rents out, Jessie (Jenny Tran) intends to clean up after the most recent guests, although those plans are cut short by an unwanted surprise.

After the success story of Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, AirBnB is given no time to rest from the worst-case scenarios depicted in the horror genre. Online influencer Sam (Alisha Soper) has booked a house for a weekend getaway, intending to share her breast cancer diagnosis with her boyfriend, Dwayne (William Gabriel Grier), and their friends Carrie (Aly Trasher) and Ricky (Eddy Acosta). These plans are interrupted when the...

Screamfest 2022 Winner Best Picture/Director Travis Greene for 8 Found Dead
8 Found Dead review – corpse-strewn property horror finds the hell in holiday rental
Screamfest 2022 Winner Best Picture/Director Travis Greene for 8 Found Dead
Double booking is the least of the worries awaiting the vacationers arriving at this desert home

Whether or not you think it deserves it, the online property-hire business Airbnb is taking a pasting of late, and now even horror films are piling in to sully its name. In this snappily edited film, a house in the desert near Joshua Tree national park (judging by the local flora) appears to have been double-booked, leading to murderous results. They complain about the circular frustration created by their inability to compare booking confirmations because they don’t have the code for the house’s wifi, which is accessible only on the Airbnb app, which they can’t access because of lack of wifi or phone signal. Typical first-world problems.

But the director, Travis Greene, and the screenwriter, Jonathan Buchanan, have more on their minds than shaming the booking service, mainly how to make...

8 Found Dead Trailer Teases Grisly Airbnb Nightmare
Image
Dark Sky Films offers a new take on a new but common fear in Travis Greene's new film based on a script written by Jonathan Buchanan, 8 Found Dead. Ahead of the Sept. 8 release on VOD, the official trailer has surfaced online offering a new horror adventure that capitalizes on the fear of strangers and spaces brought about by the gig market. We never really know who's driving an Uber or, in this case, who is hosting an Airbnb.

Barbarian became one of the most acclaimed horror films of the year, presenting a story filled with dark and unexpected turns, but began with a haunting first chapter centered around an Airbnb rental. Surprisingly, the movie took a different turn, but it seems like what the audience didn't get to see in Barbarian could be the main plot of 8 Found Dead. The story centers on two couples of friends...

Horror Highlights: 8 Found Dead, The Harbinger, The Barn Part II
Image
8 Found Dead: "Stuck in a pandemic, Travis Greene and Jonathan Buchanan stumbled upon the story of 8 Found Dead while spitballing ideas at their local coffee shop.

Using several real-life characters and situations from Travis' life, Jonathan crafted a story around the inherent drama of being held hostage by conversation, a cue taken from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) - which, along with Death Trap (1982), Funny Games (2007) and The Strangers (2008) served as inspiration for the filmmakers.

The next step was choosing a cinematographer. and the obvious choice was their friend Ryan Valdez. His unique style had always stood out and seemed perfect for 8 Found Dead."

Synopsis:

"Two couples drive to a secluded house in the desert for a weekend getaway, each with their own baggage, expectations and secrets. Upon their arrival, they are met by two strangers, claiming to have rented the house as well.

Slamdance 2018 Review: Birds Without Feathers Still Flock Together
We’ve all felt lonely and isolated at one point or another; it’s a feeling that comes and goes. But for the six wayward protagonists of Wendy McColm’s dark comedy/drama Birds Without Feathers, it’s an inescapable part of their lives, a burden that’s hard to shake. Our main character of sorts is Neil (played by McColm herself), a wannabe Instagram star who spends so much time snapping photos of herself and collecting followers like they were bottle caps, she never gets close to anyone; at least until she runs into Jo (Lenae Day), an old friend who is now a performance artist or actress of some sort, who is also desperate for attention. Other characters orbit this pair: Sam (William Gabriel Grier), Neil’s boyfriend-then-ex-boyfriend, a struggling...
