The good news: Expect some joy from Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 after the Bau suffered a lot of loss this past year. For example, Tara and Rebecca (Nicole Pacent), who ended Season 18 engaged, are happy, Aisha Tyler told TV Insider. But that doesn’t mean that the Bau isn’t still going to have to deal with their Voit problem. Zach Gilford debuted as the serial killer Elias Voit (a.k.a. Sicarius) in Season 16, with a network of like-minded individuals. Before the end of that season, he’d kidnapped and trapped Rossi (Joe Mantegna) in a storage unit. Then, in Season 17, he had knowledge of Gold Star, the next Big Bad. At the end of that season, he was attacked in prison. Season 18 began with Voit in a coma as a result, then when he woke, he was changed. He had amnesia and brain scans showed he was no longer a psychopath.

The past few days have been pretty rough for the Bau, who almost lost one of their own —again in the latest episode of Criminal Minds Season 18. Titled “Tara,” Episode 8 saw the titular character, portrayed by Aisha Tyler, undergo surgery after getting shot twice in a car park ambush in the previous episode. Fortunately, she pulled through. With this second chance at life, she wasted no time in proposing to her girlfriend Rebecca (Nicole Pacent) in the presence of her “chosen family,” her team members, who, of course, gave their blessings.
Discussing the episode with EW, Tyler addressed the possibility of Criminal Minds Season 18 ever veering in the direction of killing off a major character like hers. She noted that while she had no idea if such would still happen, “there’s only so many deaths one can take in a season.” The actress then mentioned real-life profilers who have had many run-ins with death,...

This post contains spoilers from Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 episode 8.
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 episode 7 wreaked havoc from all angles. The Uncle Cyrus deepfake failed to turn Voit evil, but succeeded in breaking Penelope’s spirit when a keystroke results in a victim’s death. If Sicarius Spiders didn’t scare us enough, Tara lying unconscious with bullet wounds gutted fans. I’m still in shambles as the pain continues in episode 8 with Tara fighting for her life.
Episode 8 dove headfirst into Tara’s grief and discovered she had closed herself off from love and commitment after losing her mom to cancer. Fans learned more about Tara than ever before while sobbing over her impending battle. Meanwhile, the Bau was pulling an all-nighter to uncover answers on Tara’s shooting by the disciple known as Mr. Lonely Heart (who ironically was kicked off the network while Voit was running it). With each new clue,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 18 Episode 8 “Tara.”] “It’s always interesting when you get a script that has your character’s name on the front,” Aisha Tyler says with a laugh. “You’re always like, ‘What’s going to happen?!'” After the previous episode ended with her character, Dr. Tara Lewis, getting shot, the Thursday, June 26, one sees her in surgery, then unconscious in the hospital while, in her mind, she speaks with her mother (Latanya Richardson Jackson), who died when she was young. Their conversations — “You’re a high-functioning overachiever who became a fixer to avoid grief, but unprocessed heartbreak like yours weighs you down,” her mom warns — lead Tara to, once she’s recovering and out of the hospital, propose to her girlfriend, Rebecca (Nicole Pacent), while at the Bau for a visit. Below, Aisha Tyler opens up about getting to explore a different side of Tara, that proposal,...

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 episode 6 gave us answers only to leave us in the dark again. Rebecca’s ex, Evan, returns, sending Tara into a jealous tizzy. A woman is buried alive, and a package locks down the FBI building. From one extreme to the next, Criminal Minds fans can’t rest when all the devils are roaming the world.
Episode 7 left me in shambles. The new network unleashes Sicarius Spiders into the mouths of their male victims, who are then placed inside balloons set to explode in their stomachs. I’m with Penelope on this one as she tries to stop the invisible spiders from crawling all over her. That’s not even the worst part of this week’s evidence: Voit agrees to help the Bau and comes face-to-face with his past, while Tara’s fate hangs in the balance.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 18 Episode 7 “…All the Devils Are Here.”] The end of the Thursday, June 19, episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution either proves our theory that Rebecca’s (Nicole Pacent) friend Evan (Geoff Stults) can’t be trusted or tells us we’re way off-base. Evan was introduced in Season 18 Episode 6, and honestly, he came across as too nice. There was the history, and Tara (Aisha Tyler) was concerned that he wanted to get back together with her girlfriend, but he said he just wanted to introduce them to his fiancée with dinner. Plus, he showed up just before the Bau was delivered the Yase-Otoko mask, representing a ghost suffering in hell and now the hallmark of Voit’s (Zach Gilford) network seemingly operating without him. It was a clear message. Now, in Season 18 Episode 7, Rebecca finds out Evan’s replacing her as the Department of Justice’s liaison to Voit,...

Between Voit’s amnesia, the Zookeeper, and Will’s death, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 episode 2 kept pain at the center. I was pissed Voit woke up but to worry about his amnesia in the same episode that JJ loses her husband was awful. Losing a parent hurts more than anything, so this plot hit close to home for me.
As I watched season 3 episode 3, "Time to Say Goodbye," I felt all Henry and Michael's emotions: lost, confused, and wondering how life can change so fast. The storyline shed light on grief within a family: Will’s spouse (JJ), his sons (Henry and Michael), his mother (Connie), his mother-in-law (Sandy), and his friends (law enforcement). Each person’s reaction broke my heart as I analyzed this week’s evidence in our recap and review. Spoilers Below.

In about forty-eight hours, Criminal Minds will make a thrilling comeback with its eighteenth season, also serving as the third chapter of the Evolution revival. The season debuts with the "Swimmer's Calculus" episode, written by Breen Frazier and directed by Bethany Rooney, with every main character from Season 17 set to return, including the psychotic villain Elias Voit (Zach Gilford). A few hints have come up regarding what’s ahead for some of these characters; one from Paget Brewster (who portrays the Bau chief Emily Prentiss) and most recently from Aisha Tyler, whose character Tara Lewis is about to have one hell of a season.
Speaking with TVLine about the new installment of Criminal Minds, Tyler teased a “deeply personal” journey for her character, involving her history, saying:
“This season is going to be deeply personal for Tara. We get to dive into my backstory, which has been really beautiful.”

Note: This story contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Criminal Minds: Evolution.”
Whether you consider it Season 2 or Season 17, “Criminal Minds: Evolution” ended with quite the explosion in Thursday’s finale. While fans were concerned for Paget Brewster’s Prentiss going into Episode 10, it was Zach Gilford’s serial killer Voit (aka Sicarius) who ultimately met his end — or did he?
Since the sequel series has already been renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+, showrunner Erica Messer broke down the twist-filled finale with TheWrap and gave a concrete answer about that violent cliffhanger.
“It was a journey to get here, because in some ways it really started at last season’s finale when Doug Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) was killed by Elias Voit, seemingly because Voit used this code word ‘Gold Star,’ which got Bailey to walk in all alone, unarmed, into the lion’s den,” she explained. “The journey to...

The following contains discussions of self-harm, graphic violence and spoilers from Criminal Minds: Evolution, Season 2, Episode 4, "Kingdom of the Blind."
After a trio of episodes with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) chasing their tails, Criminal Minds: Evolution finally sheds some light on the Gold Star conspiracy at the heart of the revival series' second season. But despite this big break in the case, tiny cracks are spreading through the individual Bau members. While this would be dangerous for them at any point, Season 2's fourth episode, "Kingdom of the Blind," will bring the previous season's villain right into their midst. From here on out, things will only get worse for the Bau.
The Season 2 premiere episodes of Evolution revealed that David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) is still working through his trauma from Season 1. Similarly, Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) continues to try to move on from Tyler Green (Ryan-James Hatanaka), a vigilante she fell for.

Warning! Spoilers for season 1 of Criminal Minds: Evolution!
Criminal Minds: Evolution wrapped its season with a perfect setup for a new mystery in season 2. With the return of the crime drama, the show has been flexing its ingenuity with new criminals and villains that push the envelope for Criminal Minds’ formatting, particularly in response to world events. This is what helped to keep the show so successful throughout its previous 15 seasons, and it seems as though the next season of the show is angling to consider another new plot thread to challenge the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Police procedural drama Criminal Minds has captivated fans since its debut in 2005. The cancellation of the original series on CBS in 2020 didn’t stop fans from desperately wishing the show would return, which it did two years later under a new title, Criminal Minds: Evolution.

Criminal Minds: Evolution showrunner Erica Messer reveals Voit will return in season 2 in a Hannibal-like role. After 15 seasons, Criminal Minds returned for a revival on Paramount+ with "Evolution" as a new subtitle. The revival of the popular police procedural drama follows key members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit as they attempt to take down an entire network of serial killers, led by Zach Gilford's Elias Voit.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Messer shares that viewers can expect more of Voit in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, which Paramount+ recently renewed. The showrunner reveals that Voit will be a figure not unlike Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs when the show returns, with the killer serving as a crucial source of information regarding the use of the phrase "Gold Star". [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 finale “Dead End.”] One case closes (sort of), another opens in the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 finale. Rossi (Joe Mantegna) helps to save himself, with the Bau finding him after taking Elias Voit/Sicarius (Zach Gilford) into custody and having his wife Sydney (Kiele Sanchez) talk him into giving up the location. But before they got Voit, he shot Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto), who insisted upon being the one to try to negotiate after the serial killer used the phrase “Gold Star.” Whatever that is, it has Rebecca (Nicole Pacent) telling the Attorney General (Monnae Michaell) her legal and extralegal options: let him go (the safest way to keep the matter contained) or an implied order of terminate with extreme prejudice (with the likely deaths of Rossi and Voit’s family unavoidable collateral damage). When Lewis (Aisha Tyler) questions ex-girlfriend Rebecca about Gold Star, all she can tell ...

Uh-oh, it looks like we maybe should be a bit more worried about Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) and Rebecca’s (Nicole Pacent) future together than we might have originally thought we needed to be on Criminal Minds: Evolution. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the January 12 midseason premiere, tensions are running high for the couple. When Rebecca joins Tara, both start talking. “I know I did the right thing, but I got the call. I’m under review,” Rebecca reveals. Tara tries to tell her it’s not her fault and shoulder some of the blame, but her girlfriend interrupts her. “Let me finish. I have never not been on your side, but you couldn’t be honest with me about what you needed, and that’s not fair,” Rebecca explains. Tara asks if they can talk about this at home. Nicole Pacent has joined the cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution. The police procedural TV series, which focuses on a group of criminal profilers who investigate cases and hunt down wrongdoers, i.e., UnSubs at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau), ended in 2020 after a successful 15-season run. But only a year after the show aired its finale, plans for a revival were announced at Paramount+. The revival struggled to go on for some time due to rights and licensing issues. Still, in July 2022, Paramount+ officially ordered the Criminal Minds revival, Criminal Minds: Evolution, to series with Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Aj Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, and Aisha Tyler returning.
Now Deadline has announced that Westworld and Call Me Kat alum Nicole Pacent has joined the Criminal Minds: Evolution cast in a recurring role. Pacent's character is Rebecca, a lawyer at the Department of Justice (DOJ). She will reportedly...

Anyone But Me superfans can now sink their teeth into a new batch of clips. The cult favorite web series has added several Lost Scenes to its run, and they are available on Hulu.
The Lost Scenes, which Anyone But Me creators Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward revealed to us back in July, fill in gaps among the show’s 26 episodes. As Miller previously explained, The Lost Scenes serve as a game of sorts for fans. “When we air, at the end of each new one we’ll put up a link to a particular episode for the fans to watch and see for themselves if they agree with where we thought a scene might belong,” she said. “Meanwhile, we hope they’ll watch every season so they can enjoy playing detective when the new scenes launch.”

Anyone But Me, which gained a cult following across three web seasons, remains popular with its fans despite airing its final episode more than three years ago. In order to thank those fans for their loyalty, series creators Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward have planned a little gift: They will share ten additional scenes, which they will release one at a time under the title Anyone But Me: The Lost Scenes.
The Lost Scenes will be designed to fit into Anyone But Me’s story arc, which follows the lives of a pair of young, lesbian protagonists. The series’ two primary actresses, Rachael Hip-Flores and Nicole Pacent, will both reprise their roles for The Lost Scenes. As Miller explained in an e-mail to Tubefilter, the goal is to create new material that can relate to previous episodes without depending entirely on them:

Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward aren’t afraid to mix it up and try something new. The two New York-based creators of hit indie drama Anyone But Me spent most of the summer drumming up fan donations in their Web-a-thon fundraising drive to raise enough money to shoot a third season. With a final count of $33,088 raised, Miller and Ward are calling the drive a success, even if it didn’t hit the amibitious $120k mark they set to fund the entire season. It’s enough to fund at least three episodes, and another donor has stepped in with a bridge loan to cover another two. So come January the cast and crew of the coming of age drama that notched four Streamy Award nominations and a Best Actor win for star Rachel Hip-Flores, are heading back into production. Asking for fan donations can only go so far, even...

In our first annual Top 50 Lesbian and Bi Characters poll, we asked you to vote for your favorite characters from film, television, and internet shows.
You cast your votes, and now we have the results. Before we reveal the winners, let's take a look at some of the trends that emerged.
Almost all of the characters were from films and television shows that made their debut after the year 2000. A few of the exceptions include Kerry Weaver from ER, and the ass-kicking ladies from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
While most of the characters were from Us productions, a fair amount came from international shows, including our top two characters (from the UK show Skins).
Also notable was the fact that some of your favorite characters, the leads from Xena: Warrior Princess (which ran from 1995-2001) and Idgie Threadgood from the film Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), were never officially presented as lesbian or bisexual.

This year, AfterEllen.com staff and contributing writers chose the winners for each category, as readers will be given the opportunity to vote on a wider range of topics and categories in our first annual Lesbian/Bi Women's Choice Awards in January.
Once again this year, we've included international people, shows and movies as a reflection of the increasing awareness of lesbian and bisexual visibility around the world made possible by the Internet.
