Humdrum Comedy’s Lgbtiq mockumentary series Metro Sexual has sold to US streaming service Crackle and Canada’s OUTtv, to premiere September 1.

The 8 x 10-minute sitcom, which originally aired locally on 9Go! and 9Now, follows the lives of doctors Stephanie Huddleston (Geraldine Hickey) and Langdon Marsh (Riley Nottingham), who work at Metropolitan Sexual Health and whose different approaches to patient care mean they’re always butting heads.

Metro Sexual was co-created, written and directed by Henry Boffin and co-created, written and edited by Nicholas Kraak, both partners in Humdrum Comedy with co-creator and star Nottingham.

‘Metro Sexual’: Australian Sitcom Comes To North American Audiences Via Crackle, Outtv In September
Image
Metro Sexual, Australia’s first sitcom led by LGBTQ characters, will come to North American audiences starting Sept. 1.

The mockumentary-style series will begin streaming in America on Crackle, OUTtvGo and Prime Channels in Canada. Metro Sexual, co-created by Henry Boffin, Riley Nottingham and Nicholas Kraak, follows a couple of Metropolitan Sexual Health doctors and their different days at clinic. When threatened with the clinic’s potential closing, two doctors much prove their worth and save their workspace.

“I am thrilled we are able to bring Metro Sexual to an American and Canadian audience and have found our home with Crackle and OUTtv. It’s such a hoot to play in the wild world of sexual health and hopefully Steph, Langdon and their crazy clinic can bring some much-needed laughter to the world,” said Nottingham.

Metro Sexual, starring Nottingham and Geraldine Hickey, is a Humdrum Comedy production released in collaboration with Australia’s 9Go! and 9Now.

Screen Australia invests $800,000 in five online projects
‘Phi and Me’.

Screen Australia has provided almost $800,000 in production funding for five online projects, featuring talent such as Mark Grentell, Enzo Tedeschi, Rosie Lourde, Kristy Best, Geraldine Hickey and Diana Nguyen.

Online investment manager Lee Naimo said: “I’m excited to support such a wide range of original ideas in this slate, including Cloudy River presenting a contemporary perspective on relationships and Lgbtqi+ experiences, and Deadhouse Dark breaking the mould with a series of online horror films.”

“We have been impressed by the quality of the applications coming through and have started to see teams coming with fully formed pilots and very clear plans for producing and marketing their work. Creators are becoming very aware of their audience, with some teams leveraging their existing online fanbases or transferring audiences from live acts to screen projects. This innovation is evident in finance plans too, where we are seeing much more...
