This Action Comedy Made $11 at the Box Office
Image
Even when Katherine Heigl loses big, she can’t win. The Grey’s Anatomy star’s movie career has been on a downward slide over the past couple of decades, bottoming out when she starred in the vowel-challenged Zyzzyx Road in 2006. Upon its release, Zyzzyx Road set a new record for box-office lows, with gross ticket sales of only $30. It gets even worse — six patrons paid five bucks each to see the film and two got their money back, meaning $20 was the ultimate take. If you have to tank, tank big — Heigl’s movie was the all-time box-office loser! That is, until another movie snatched away her title.

That indignity now belongs to a 2011 action-comedy prophetically called The Worst Movie Ever! (exclamation point included in the title). The film’s premiere and two-day run attracted exactly one paying customer, earning $11 for the filmmakers. Sorry, Heigl, you have been erased from the record books.

Filmmaker with the Worst Opening Ever Reveals Follow-up: 'Midget Zombie Takeover'
We all know the best worst movie is Troll 2, but what about the actual worst movie? Actor-director Glenn Berggoetz created that film, and even named it The Worst Movie Ever!. The film isn't remembered for its fine acting, breathtaking visuals, or intense storyline. Instead, it's best known for selling a single $11 ticket during its opening weekend at a theater in Los Angeles. Since its debut in November 2012, the movie has earned $10,194. Berggoetz has a new film coming out, and Movieline has all the details. Midget Zombie Takeover, which has an absurd trailer that features a lot of screaming, has already performed better than the director's previous film. According to Box Office Mojo, Midget Zombie Takeover has earned $2,755 — $755 more than its...

Worst Movie Ever! Has Another Historic, $12 Weekend
Glenn Berggoetz
Last we heard from the team behind The Worst Movie Ever!, filmmaker Glenn Berggoetz was receiving death threats as the movie's historically bad box-office returns crept ever-so-incrementally higher. More than a month later, firmly ensconced in three-digit territory and finding new audiences seemingly every week, has Wme!'s profile emerged at last from the freezing shadow of box-office futility? Hint: No.

Listen: Irate Viewer Leaves Death Threat For Director of Worst Movie Ever!
Glenn Berggoetz
It's been a while since we checked in with the team behind The Worst Movie Ever! -- which is to say with Glenn Berggoetz, the actor/filmmaker/no-budget impresario whose gonzo epic set a record for box-office futility with an $11 opening. Things have been mostly looking up since then: There was a relatively well-received screening down in Virginia, and, according to Berggoetz, exhibition interest everywhere from a domestic TV syndicate to Brazil, Japan and beyond. But! There have been bumps along the road as well -- ugly, anonymous, death-threatening bumps.

Reject Radio #107: Out of Focus
This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, we talk with Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure director Matthew Bate, discuss the love letter Drive with director Nicolas Winding Refn, and talk intentionally bad filmmaking with The Worst Movie Ever! director Glenn Berggoetz. That’s two movies with exclamation marks in the title. Can you get more excited than that? Download This Episode On This Week’s Show: The Vodka [Beginning - 22:24]: In the early 90s, Eddie Lee Sausage and Mitchell D. recorded their noisy, alcoholic neighbors Ray Huffman and Peter Haskett fighting. It became a cult, viral phenomenon, and director Matthew Bate explores that with his new film Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure. He joins us to talk about art being made without the subject’s knowledge and the insane world of Ray and Pete. Drive, He Said [22:24 - 35:15]: Nicolas Winding Refn explains why Drive is an emotional message for his wife...

Can You Intentionally Make a Cult Film?
Last weekend, a film called The Worst Movie Ever! (complete with an exclamation mark in the title) played two midnight showings at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles and made only $11. That means that one person attended only one of the screenings, which means that if the filmmaker’s mother came out to support him, he wasn’t there to hold her hand. It’s difficult to say with certainty, but the whole thing seems fishy. If you were four-walling your own movie, wouldn’t you want to be there? Wouldn’t the actors and people who worked on the thing show up for support even if it meant paying for their own ticket? Is it just blind luck that advertising brought in only one person interested in seeing it (thus making it the lowest-grossing opening weekend ever)? For any other movie, these questions might not even pop up. When the infamous Zyzzyx Road scored $20 during its...

"The Worst Movie Ever!" lives up to its name with epically bad grosses
Glenn Berggoetz
If Columbia University gives out Pulitzer Prizes in the category of Bad Cinema Reporting, then S.T. VanAirsdale surely has a lock on this year's award. All week, he's been working the bad movie beat over at Movieline, digging up the facts on something called "The Worst Movie Ever!" Made by Denver-based filmmaker Glenn Berggoetz, the picture opened last weekend at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles to the worst box office results ever: just one admission, for the grand total of $11. On the bright side, at least it was a full-priced admission. Just imagine what we'd be saying if that one ticket sold had been to a senior citizen or a member of our armed forces?

In a great piece called "The $11 Question: How The Worst Movie Ever! Scored the Worst Opening Ever," VanAirsdale lays out the whole story behind this momentous event. He even speaks to Berggoetz who...

‘The Worst Movie Ever’ Grosses 11 Dollars On Its Opening Weekend
Glenn Berggoetz
No, I didn't forget the word "million" in the above headline or Photoshop that poster myself. A movie calling itself The Worst Movie Ever actually grossed 11 dollars total on its opening weekend according to Box Office Mojo [1]. It played twice, at midnight, at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles, CA and apparently only one person paid to see it. After the jump find out where an $11 gross places the movie in history and read more about the self-proclaimed, and now mathematically proven, worst movie ever. We wouldn't have written this article without Movieline [2], so thanks a bunch to them. As is the case with most movies, it's always best to start with a trailer. First I'd like to apologize. You can't have that 90 seconds of your life back. Obviously writer-producer-director-star Glenn Berggoetz was going for something there and, apparently, he was successful. The blend of awful effects, acting and shooting...

'The Worst Movie Ever' Grosses $11, Proves It Really is The Worst Movie Ever
You kinda have to expect this when you title your film The Worst Movie Ever. According to Box Office Mojo, we may have a new champion when it comes to lowest grossing theatrical releases of all time. Opening up in one theater in Los Angeles over the weekend and holding two midnight showings, The Worst Movie Ever came away with a disappointing $11, meaning that only one person ventured out to see the film. One person! And that one person may or may not be the actress who stars in the movie, as she was recently photographed outside the theater where it was playing. So what is The Worst Movie Ever? Written, directed by and starring Glenn Berggoetz, The Worst Movie Ever seems to be aiming for corny cult status with an IMDb description that reads, "A robot alien...
