If you’ve ever watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and thought, I’d really love to smell like rotting meat and decaying grandfathers, you are surprisingly not alone. You’re an odd bird and may be a danger to society, but you’re not alone. As it turns out, there’s a company making fragrances based on horror movies.
A man named Killian Wells launched a company called Xyrena, which itself has a brand labeled Cinematic Scent Archives, with Wells seeking to capture the smell of certain horror movies in fragrance form. Some of the titles in the officially licensed collection include American Psycho, Creepshow, Nosferatu, Silent Night Deadly Night, and Sleepaway Camp. So what do they actually smell like?
Patrick Bateman might be one of the few horror movie villains that we would expect to actually smell good. But you just know that Count Orlok is downright stinky! For the American Psycho fragrance,...

What does a chainsaw massacre smell like? And does killer pumpkin boy Sam actually smell like a pumpkin? The company Xyrena has managed to conjure up the answer to both of those admittedly bizarre questions, adding both The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Trick ‘r Treat into their “Cinematic Scent Archive” with the release of two brand new fragrances.
First up, The Cinematic Scent Archive (CSA) by Xyrena proudly inducts The Texas Chain Saw Massacre—recently named #1 on Variety’s list of the “Top 100 Horror Movies of All Time”—into its groundbreaking collection to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary. Known for creating the world’s first and only collection of officially licensed, niche-quality fragrances spanning decades, genres, and studios, Xyrena—the Austin-based fragrance house—has crafted a scent that embodies the raw, haunting essence of one of horror’s most influential films.

Five years after a reboot of the 1970s cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was announced – and then never actually made – the brand has returned in an unexpected way.
Yes, the Austin-based movie-inspired fragrance house Xyrena has taken the burgeoning popularity of tomato scents and formulated the first of the ‘killer’ variety.
Developed exclusively in collaboration with the creators of the cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! franchise, “this enchanting, garden-fresh fragrance opens with a citrusy top note of sweet tangerine, transitioning seamlessly into vegetal mid notes of green stems, (killer) tomato leaf, and freshly cut grass. The filmic fragrance comes to a dramatic climax with an earthy base of wild fern, wet soil, genuine Indonesian patchouli, and South African Buchu.”
“When people hear ‘tomato fragrance,’ they might initially be taken aback. However, the scent is surprisingly pleasant, fresh, and earthy,” said Killian Wells, Xyrena’s CEO and head perfumer.
