‘The Bay’ to Honor the Late Jacklyn Zeman with Special Standalone Tribute Episode
Image
As the series prepares to launch its ninth season later this year, “The Bay” will honor the life of the late actress Jacklyn Zeman with a special standalone tribute episode.

Zeman, who portrayed psychic medium Sofia Grace Madison on the series from 2012 until her untimely passing in May 2023 following a short battle with cancer, is most famously known for portraying Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Spencer on “General Hospital.”

While there is no set airdate, the episode aptly titled “Sofia” will celebrate the character and Zeman and features several guest stars that “meant something to Jackie’s legacy,” shares series creator, executive producer and head writer Gregori J. Martin.

As previously reported, Dee Wallace, who played opposite Zeman on “General Hospital” during a brief story arc in 2015 where she appeared as Pat Spencer, older sister of Luke (Anthony Geary) and Bobbie, will play Charlotte Grace, Sofia’s sister who moves to Bay...

Soap Opera Icon Jackie Zeman to Be Memorialized by Former ‘General Hospital’ Co-Stars in Special Episode of ‘The Bay’ (Exclusive)
Image
Soap opera fans will have an opportunity to say one last goodbye to “General Hospital” star Jackie Zeman when, come September, Popstar!’s “The Bay” pays homage to the beloved daytime veteran in a special episode dedicated to her. Zeman also co-starred on “The Bay” — which streams on Peacock — playing Sofia Madison.

“The special episode titled ‘Sofia’ will be a celebration of both the Sofia character and Jackie Zeman’s life, with several special guest stars that meant something to Jackie’s legacy,” says showrunner and head writer Gregori J. Martin.

Zeman, who earned five Daytime Emmy nominations — four for her role as prostitute-turned-nurse Bobbie Spencer on “General Hospital,” and one for her work on “The Bay” — died in May 2023 after a “short battle” with cancer. Her legacy on the ABC soap, where she spent more than four decades of her career, was marked this past January with a touching memorial episode and,...

‘Battle for Pandora’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Tom Sizemore, Natalie Storrs, Mark Ricketson, Kristos Andrews. Plastic Martyr | Written by Joe Roche, Rolfe Kanefsky | Directed by Noah Luke

Battle for Pandora is The Asylum’s mockbuster answer to Avatar: The Way of Water, although the trailer looked like it was as much inspired by James Cameron’s earlier film The Abyss, and perhaps inevitably given the two film’s similar effects, Terminator 2. It also looked a lot more interesting than anything to do with the Avatar franchise, although to be honest that really wouldn’t be too hard.

The Cassini 3 landed on Saturn’s moon Pandora and promptly stopped communicating with Earth. In response, a rescue mission led by Commander Hank Lewis (Tom Sizemore), is dispatched. On board is infectious disease specialist Dr. Jennifer Ryan (Natalie Storrs) and her husband Dr. Cliff Ryan (Mark Ricketson). This complicates things because Jennifer and the Cassini’s captain Greg (Kristos Andrews) have a history.

James Cullen Bressack’s ‘Murder, Anyone?’ Acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment (Exclusive)
James Cullen Bressack
Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired director James Cullen Bressack’s well-received horror-comedy, “Murder, Anyone?” based on the play of the same name by Bressack’s father, Emmy-award winner Gordon Bressack.

The film will be released in early 2023.

“Murder, Anyone?” explores the concept of manifestation, and stars Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”), Galadriel Stineman (“The Middle”), Maurice Lamarche (“Pinky and the Brain”), Spencer Breslin, and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland.

The story follows playwrights George and Charlie, tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller.” Unfortunately, as they write, the story comes to life in real time — but their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns and filling their life with hilarity — and chaos.

Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Bailey Bass, and Britain Dalton in Avatar : La Voie de l'eau (2022)
‘Battle for Pandora’ Trailer – ‘Avatar’ Mockbuster Is a Sci-fi Horror Movie Starring Mohawk Tom Sizemore
Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Bailey Bass, and Britain Dalton in Avatar : La Voie de l'eau (2022)
With the mega-budget Avatar: The Way of Water coming to theaters on December 16, it’s only natural that a low-budget “mockbuster” is also on the menu from the folks at The Asylum.

Titled Battle for Pandora, the sci-fi/horror movie is now available on VOD outlets.

Tom Sizemore stars alongside Mark Riketson and Kristos Andrews in the film, which really looks nothing like Avatar aside from taking place on a strange planet named Pandora. The Asylum’s Battle for Pandora looks to be more of a horror movie about an alien monster.

In the brand new genre movie, “After a help signal from a research vessel makes it back to Earth, the U.S. Space Force sends a rescue ship to Pandora, a moon of Saturn’s. But when they try to land, they discover Pandora is already inhabited by a highly evolved humanoid species that won’t give up...

Coinciding with the release of Avatar: The Way of Water is the release of The Asylum’s Battle for Pandora! You can watch the trailer for Battle for Pandora in the embed above.

Fun Trailer for The Asylum's 'Avatar' Spoof Movie 'Battle for Pandora'
Image
"Do not evac!!" The Asylum has revealed their official trailer for a spoof movie called Battle for Pandora, arriving in theaters today. The Asylum is known for making incredibly cheap, hilariously bad knock offs of major Hollywood blockbusters, and they're still going strong even nowadays (they also made the Sharknado franchise). This time they're riffing on James Cameron's Avatar movies (with Avatar: The Way of Water in theaters in two weeks) with this one, which uses the "Pandora" planet and lots of blue-tinged footage. But everything else is about different. After a help signal from a research vessel makes it back to Earth, the U.S. Space Force sends a rescue ship to Saturn's moon Pandora. But when they try to land, they discover that it's inhabited by a highly evolved humanoid species. Starring Tom Sizemore, Kristos Andrews, and Mark Andrew Ricketson. Yes, this looks as terrible as you're expecting,...

‘Murder, Anyone?': See Exclusive Images From Thriller-Comedy Based on Play by Gordon Bressack (Photos)
James Cullen Bressack
In director James Cullen Bressack’s upcoming film, “Murder, Anyone?”, two playwrights named George and Charlie, are tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller.”

Unfortunately, as they write, the story comes to life in real time. However, their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns and filling their life with hilarity — and chaos. And below, you can get a hint of what that’s like courtesy of some exclusive-to-TheWrap images.

The comedic play-within-a-play-within-a-movie, which per Bressack contemplates “the complexities of language, art, theater, film and more” is also especially personal for him. It’s based on the play written by his father, Emmy award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack, who died in 2019.

“I self financed and made the film in honor of my father’s memory so his words could live on,” Bressack said.

James Cullen Bressack Adapting Father Gordon Bressack’s Play ‘Murder, Anyone?’ Into Feature Film (Exclusive)
Image
James Cullen Bressack (“Fortress”) is adapting the play “Murder, Anyone?” into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.

“Muder, Anyone?” was originally written by Bressack’s father, Emmy Award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack. The play first premiered at the White Fire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.

Gordon Bressack, who worked on dozens of beloved animated shows including “Animaniacs” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” died in 2019.

Now his son will direct and produce a feature film adaptation, in part to “bring attention to his work,” Bressack tells Variety.

Spencer Breslin (“The Happening”) and Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”) are set to star in the film, a faithful adaptation of Bressack Sr.’s show about two playwrights tasked with creating a new “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller” who find their story coming to life as they write.

Breslin and Andrews are joined by Galadriel Stineman (“The Is Us”), Maurice Lamarche (“Animaniacs”), Charles M.
