There are plenty of great horror and thriller K-dramas, yet some of them managed to add humor and even romance into their story regardless of how dark they were. The best K-dramas are known for their intense plots, somewhat awkward humor, and quirky plot lines. However, many K-dramas are equally entertaining as they are complex and full of depth.

Recent K-dramas with darker themes have performed well in South Korea as well as across the world thanks to streaming. The biggest example is Squid Game, which became Netflix's most-watched show of all time and has yet to be topped. Other recent examples include Sweet Home and Gyeongseong Creature. However, whereas there weren't many laughs in Squid Game season 1, other dark K-dramas found room for humor.
