After studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Charles has spent his entire career acting, writing and directing for Theatre, Film and Television. Following his appointment as Associate Director at the Palace Theatre, Westcliff where he directed plays as diverse as Jean Genet's, 'The Maids' and Victoria Wood's, 'Talent', he produced and directed his own adaption of Bill Bryson's hilarious best selling travel book, 'The Lost Continent' which he later reworked for BBC World Service Radio. His first foray into film came when he won an Arts Council England competition to make 'Countdown', a 35mm film to celebrate the opening of 'The Centre', a multi-million pound theatre and cinema complex in East Anglia. In 2017 he began his on going association with the internationally acclaimed gay theatre and film company 'Starving Artists of Los Angeles', for whom he directed 'Caliban Remix' and 'Los Angeles Fever Dream' winning Awards of Excellence at 'Global Shorts', 'Best Shorts' and the 'Accolade Awards' in Los Angeles. The following year he adapted, directed and performed Edgar Allan Poe's, 'The Tell Tale Heart' which won him the Best Actor Statuette at the 'Global Shorts Awards', Best International Short Film at the 'Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema' and Best Horror at the 'Cannes Short Film Festival'. His most recent film, 'In Absentia' was released in 2023 and has already been honoured at the 'Brussels World Film Festival', 'Paris International Short Festival' and the 'Liverpool Indie Awards'.
