George Retelas was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area around the Greek-American community. At age 14, his family moved to the Midwest where he graduated from High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He returned to California and attended several junior colleges before he transferred to CSU Stanislaus to complete his Bachelor of Arts. He became an avid photographer and pursued journalism where he completed his Masters in Mass Communications at San Jose State. His feature-film debut was directing Eleven (2014), a WWII documentary.
