How much will it cost to renovate the Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar into the next Air Force One? That’s classified information. But a recent $934 million transfer of funds to a Pentagon budget may hold a clue.
The New York Times reported that this “transfer” to an unnamed classified project described in a Pentagon document sent to Capitol Hill likely includes the cost of renovating the gifted plane into a lavish gold-accented flying palace for President Trump. The funds were moved to a budget dedicated to updating America’s ground-based nuclear missiles,...

Multiple Democratic senators have shared concerns regarding Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-Pennsylvania) unstable behavior.
The senators are having private discussions about how to help Fetterman after a New York magazine report revealed that he behaves erratically and in a way that might pose a danger to himself or others.
Two Democratic senators told The Hill that they are speaking with colleagues about how to help Fetterman, who they fear is struggling to cope with the emotional tension of serving in Congress.
“Every time I see him, I’m worried about him,” one Democratic senator who requested anonymity stated.
The senator cited the report, which noted that Fetterman’s ex-chief of staff alerted his doctor at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that he was “on a bad trajectory” and may not live “for much longer” unless something changes.

Updated, with additional details: Donald Trump said that his national security adviser, Michael Waltz, would be departing that post and will be his nominee to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as national security adviser in the interim, Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president wrote, “I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations. From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role.”
Trump’s announcement is the first major shakeup of his second term.

Updated with Senate passage: The Senate on Friday passed a bill to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year and avoid a shutdown. The Republican-written bill passed 54-46, with Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and independent Angus King voting with Republicans for it. Republican Rand Paul was the sole GOP vote against it.
The process has exposed a major fissure between Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and other members and activists irate that the party isn’t doing more to try to stop Donald Trump.
The initial vote to proceed was 62-38, triggering a process that led to passage of the funding bill late today and avoid a shutdown. Lawmakers had a deadline of midnight Et Saturday.

Former White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield has joined CNN as an on-air political commentator.
Bedingfield, who will be based in Washington, D.C., is the latest official from President Joe Biden’s administration to take an on-air role following a White House tenure. Former Press Secretary Jen Psaki hosts a weekend show for MSNBC, as does Symone Sanders-Townsend, who was chief spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Bedingfield served in his communications role at the White House since the start of Biden’s term to earlier this year, when she was succeeded by Ben Labolt. During the 2020 presidential campaign, she was deputy campaign manager and communications director, and served as Biden’s communications director when he was vice president. She also has worked for Jeanne Shaheen on her 2008 Senate campaign, and for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Bedingfield also held top communications posts at the Motion Picture Association and Monumental Sports and Entertainment.

Bret Baier will interview former President Donald Trump for Fox News’ Special Report on June 19.
The interview is potentially significant for Fox News’ plans to host the first GOP presidential debate on Aug. 23 in Milwaukee, and Baier would be an obvious choice to moderate the event.
Although Trump recently participated in a Fox News town hall with Sean Hannity, The New York Times reported last month that Trump was resistant to having Baier question him, given the Fox News anchor’s coverage of the 2020 presidential election.
This will be his first interview with Baier since 2018. Trump also participated in a Fox News town hall in 2020 that was moderated by Baier and Martha MacCallum and held at the Lincoln Memorial.
Trump’s participation in the first debate likely would boost ratings, especially if it means his first face-off with his closest challenger, Ron DeSantis, or his former vice president, Mike Pence,...

Naomi Seligman, the former communications director to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, has filed a complaint with prosecutors claiming that Garcetti committed perjury when he denied under oath that he did not know about allegations of misconduct by a top aide and adviser.
The complaint comes as Garcetti is awaiting a confirmation vote by the U.S. Senate to be ambassador to India after his nomination cleared the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The complaint — read it here — was filed by attorneys for Whistleblower Aid. The complaint also alleges that the mayor conspired to cover up complaints of sexual harassment against Rick Jacobs, who served as Garcetti’s deputy chief of staff and then worked on non profits connected to the mayor. He stepped down in October, 2020, but has denied the allegations.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti faced a relatively brisk confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill on Tuesday for his nomination as U.S. ambassador to India, and responded to one question over allegations that he was aware that one of his top advisers engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment but did not take action to stop it.
Last year, a Los Angeles Police Department officer sued the city, alleging that the mayor witnessed the harassment on the part of Rick Jacobs, yet did not take action. New York magazine ran an extensive piece earlier this month in which four people who worked with Garcetti and Jacobs alleged that the mayor was aware of his adviser’s behavior.
Jacobs has denied the claims, and Garcetti has previously denied that he witnessed harassment.
At Tuesday’s hearing, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-nh) said that she had “some concern” over the allegations, and “I...

More than 100 Democrats in the House and Senate and independent Bernie Sanders have signed a letter urging the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to negotiate a fair contract with IATSE, saying, “We are united in our belief in the importance of livable wages, sustainable benefits, and reasonable rest periods between shifts and during the workday” – three of the union’s core demands.
The letter was signed by 31 senators and 87 representatives and sent to AMPTP president Carol Lombardini.
The union’s members begin voting on strike authorization Friday in advance of what could be the last round of bargaining before a strike that would shut down film and TV productions across the country.
The politicians also reminded Lombardini that industry workers “risked their health and safety” during the pandemic, and that “the entertainment you jointly produce is helping to heal our nation.”
Here is their letter:

As Congress and the White House seem poised to adopt some sort of Covid-19 relief bill, the National Association of Theater Owners on Tuesday pushed for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s plan to provide much-needed aid to struggling movie theaters.
The Heroes Small Business Lifeline Act, co-written by Schumer with fellow Democratic senators Chris Coons, Jeanne Shaheen and Ben Cardin, extends the Paycheck Protection Plan created in the first round of relief legislation through March 2021 and expands the Small Business Administration’s debt relief program for up to a year.
For arts and entertainment, the bill also provides dedicated assistance to businesses that rely on large gatherings, including movie theaters, live theaters, concert venues and restaurants — though the exact amount of relief available was not immediately clear.
“The movie theater operators of America are desperate for help from Congress. Without such help, 70% of the theaters in the country could...

Washington — Viktor Orbán couldn’t have scripted it any better if he’d tried.

The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court battle has turned into one of the most contentious nominations in our nation’s history. President Trump’s nominee has been accused of past sexual assaults and of being dishonest before the Senate.
Despite testimony by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s nomination cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote on September 28th.
