Justin Matthew Garza was raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. He began performing competitively on stage at a young age and went on to study acting and directing at Columbia College Chicago. In 2007, feeling called to serve, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he spent 12 years as a Navy SEAL, Special Operations Combat Medic, and Hand-to-Hand Combat Instructor.
After his military career, Justin earned an MFA in Narrative Film Directing from UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television, while also studying screenwriting and producing through UCLA Extension.
Now based in Los Angeles, Justin is known for his work on The Terminal List (2022) and Alex Garland's Civil War (2024). He has directed award-winning short films, national commercials, and prime-time television campaigns. He serves as Executive Director of the Warrior Heritage Foundation, the official nonprofit partner of the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veteran Affairs.
