‘Do Not Watch’ Review – An Innovative Reinvention of the Found Footage Format
Image
Justin Janowitz’s spellbinding feature debut, Do Not Watch, follows the tradition of cursed footage like 2018’s Antrum or 2022’s Incantation. Subliminal messages are baked into Ryan Toyama’s screenplay and imprinted onto the screen. Traditional barriers between screens and their audiences are shattered; characters plead with us to do what the title commends. Do Not Watch isn’t without shortcomings, but tantalizes as an innovative reinvention of found footage capabilities.

Toyama’s screenplay bounces between multiple timelines infected by the same film canister. An introductory info dump reads: “What you are about to witness is a compilation of the events surrounding the disappearance of a post-production crew as they worked on research footage from the 1980s.” Clips cycle around the mentioned post-production crew who works at Illusion Post, the supposed cursed footage of researchers in a bunker from the ‘80s, and the documentarians trying to unearth the truth about...

Amie Donald and Violet McGraw in M3GAN (2022)
Imaginary Review: Unlike M3GAN, Chauncey the Teddy Bear Will Not Leave You Gagging
Amie Donald and Violet McGraw in M3GAN (2022)
With a similar elevator pitch and budget as M3GAN, Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary is clearly striving to become 2024’s PG-13 horror darling about an evil children’s doll wreaking havoc on a family already in a state of metamorphosis. Regrettably, the filmmakers here have completely abandoned the archness of tone and shades of camp that made M3GAN such an entertaining, if ultimately inconsequential, experience. In place of that film’s knowing playfulness is an overwrought family drama that’s as undercooked as it is painfully familiar.

The blended family at the center of Imaginary consists of comic book artist Jessica (DeWanda Wise), her new husband, Max (Tom Payne), and his two kids from a previous marriage, Taylor (Taegen Burns) and Alice (Pyper Braun). While moody, edgy teenager Taylor constantly gives Jessica the cold shoulder, Alice—much to her big sister’s chagrin—has started to warm up to her stepmom.

‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ Review: J.Lo’s Visual Album Riff Is Just a Commercial for Her Album (and the Concept of Love Itself)
Image
In the summer of 2022, Netflix released “Halftime,” a glossy, shiny, and intermittently revelatory documentary focused on global icon Jennifer Lopez. That offering found unexpected (if highly unrelatable) pathos in the star’s distress over not being nominated for an Oscar for her (quite good) turn in “Hustlers.” Just twenty months later, and yet another streamer is now releasing its own glossy, shiny, and intermittently revelatory film project focused on global icon Jennifer Lopez. The pathos, though? That’s mostly missing, but certainly not for lack of trying.

The project comes from the mind of Lopez herself, who also co-financed the effort. It’s clunkily titled (and punctuated) as “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” linking it inextricably with Lopez’s latest studio album, which just so happens to be dropping the same day as its “cinematic” component. Synergy!

The official synopsis for the project is filled with chestnuts that...

1 Upcoming Horror Copying A 2019 Movie's Plot Makes Both Stories Even Better
Image
Late Night with the Devil and The Cleansing Hour both feature broadcasts taken over by supernatural beings. The films share common themes but are set in different time periods. The similarities between the movies make them an ideal double feature, highlighting timeless horror elements.

The upcoming horror film Late Night with the Devil shares some broad strokes and thematic elements with 2019's The Cleansing Hour, but the similarities make both movies even better. Written and directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil focuses on Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian), the host of late-night talk show Night Owls. Set in the 1970s, Delroy tries to combat falling ratings by bringing on a spooky panel of guests for a Halloween taping, including the potentially demonically possessed Lilly (Ingrid Torelli).

Directed by Damien LeVeck, The Cleansing Hour takes place in the modern-day and focuses on a livestream produced by best...

Jennifer Lopez Addresses Her Multiple Marriags & Romances In This Is Me… Now Trailer – Watch (Picture Credit: Prime Video/YouTube)

Jennifer Lopez finally gives insight into her romantic life in the past two decades. The actress-singer has, time and again, grabbed eyeballs over her multiple marriages and boyfriends. She broke her engagement with Alex Rodriguez and reunited with Ben Affleck in 2021. Scroll below as she breaks silence on s*x addict and many other allegations in This Is Me… Now, A Love Story trailer.

As most know, JLo has been married four times. She tied the knot with Cuban waiter Ojani Noa in 1997, but that relationship lasted barely a year. She gave another chance to “happily ever after” when she married her former backup dancer, Cris Judd, in 2001. They called it quits in 2003. She then married singer Marc Anthony, and they were together for almost a decade. She is also blessed...

Is It Safe to Shoot During Coronavirus? One TV Movie Aimed to Find Out (Exclusive)
Image
When Jonathan Bennett — of “Mean Girls” and “Cake Wars” fame — got a call about starring in a TV movie called “Harvest of the Heart,” he was shopping. “I remember the moment the call came in, because I was at Costco buying groceries in safety goggles, an N95 mask, and gloves,” he said.

The call was from a casting director he had worked with before, offering him a part in a movie that was about to begin filming in Oklahoma — he had to ring her back after he got home and had sanitized his phone.

“I was surprised that a movie was starting this early,” Bennett said. “But my big concern was, what are the safety precautions going to be like?”

As production tentatively restarts in North America, that’s the question of the hour: Can it be done safely?

Covid-19 was beginning to hit Michigan hard in March when producer...
