Jason Voorhees is officially returning to screens, and fans got their first taste at San Diego Comic-Con. The project is called Sweet Revenge, and it’s part of the bigger Jason Universe plan to celebrate 45 years of the Friday the 13th franchise.
The first footage was revealed during the panel at Sdcc, where it was announced that Sweet Revenge is a short-form vignette, which basically means a short film, and it’s being called the main event for the anniversary campaign. Jason’s been gone for years, so seeing him return in any form has already got longtime fans buzzing.
The short will premiere on August 13, 2025, which just so happens to fall on a Wednesday, not a Friday, but the date still marks a big comeback for one of horror’s most iconic killers. And this time, he’s not coming alone. Angry Orchard is sponsoring the project, which adds...

It’s been a long time since we last saw Jason Voorhees on screen, but the wait is finally over. At San Diego Comic-Con, fans got their first official look at Sweet Revenge, a brand-new short project that brings Jason back, and it’s already getting people talking.
The project comes from Jason Universe, and it’s being described as a “short-form vignette” which basically means a short, focused story, that will be the centerpiece of the franchise’s big 45th anniversary campaign.
The trailer was shown during the panel and gave fans a quick but intense look at what’s coming. Sweet Revenge officially premieres on August 13, 2025, and it promises to bring all the classic blood-soaked horror you’d expect from Jason.
This new project is sponsored by Angry Orchard, and according to Jason Universe, fans should get ready for a “chilling weekend in the woods filled with blood-soaked surprises only Jason can deliver.

When it comes to "so bad it's good" movies, there's a small but elite group that transcends their bad writing, stiff performances, and technical ineptitude to become something greater than the sum of their incompetent parts. Some, like Tommy Wiseau's infamous The Room, miss their intended mark so widely that they hit another, completely unintended mark. Others, like 2019's Cats, have all the resources and star power in the world, but are so spectacularly ill-conceived that they succeed in spite of themselves.
But there are other movies that fail on pretty much every level imaginable, from acting to cinematography to sound design, creating a symphony of pain and discomfort that's like catnip to any lover of bad cinema. Movies like these are rarer than one might think, but one of the most infamous examples is celebrating its 15th birthday this month. That film is 2010's Birdemic: Shock and Terror,...

Season 2 of Shrinking delivered gut punch after emotional gut punch. It was also full of witty banter, poignant witticisms, and moments that made us think. One character rose to the top through it all: Derek, played by Ted McGinley. Derek's wife, Liz, and the couple have a unique relationship. Derek is patient, laid-back, and supportive, while Liz is intense, shrewd, and not to be messed with. They're a perfect match. The same is true for his friendships, with Derek bringing calm to the general chaos at nearly every turn.
Shrinking is a departure for McGinley, who, before playing Derek, was known for roles like Jefferson D'Arcy on Married... with Children and Stan Gabel in Revenge of the Nerds. Perhaps not taken seriously for much of his earlier work, McGinley's increased screen time during the second season of Shrinking made it a better show. Shrinking co-creator and showrunner, Bill Lawrence, is the king of TV comedy at the moment. Between his work on the aforementioned Harrison Ford and Jason Segel-led AppleTV+ series' third season, the fourth of Ted Lasso, the reboot of Scrubs, and his forthcoming, Steve Carell-led comedy, the man is busy. (Putting it mildly.) So it's no wonder that he's weighing the possibility of ending Shrinking with its upcoming third season—but he's also not entirely sure if he's ready to be done with it, either.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lawrence spoke candidly about weighing the options for Shrinking's future — particularly because it was initially pitched with a three-season-long story arc. When asked directly about whether he could "see the show going beyond that [initial three-season pitch]" or not, the showrunner said simply, "yes and no."

Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has opened up about the possibility of wrapping up the hit Apple TV+ comedy with its upcoming third installment. This comes after nearly a week since the show debuted its Season 2 finale.
During a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, Lawrence revealed the reason why Shrinking Season 3 would likely complete the story arc of Jason Segel’s character Jimmy Laird. The latter was introduced as a therapist who must deal with the grief of losing his beloved wife. "I think that this story is over in three seasons," Lawrence explained. "Because if we started the fourth season with Jason Segel going, 'I’m still so sad about my wife dying, and I really messed up with my daughter,' people would be like [contorts face into a look of agony]."

Apple TV+'s comedy drama Shrinking has just wrapped Season 2. The Jason Segel and Harrison Ford-led show received critical acclaim and has already been renewed for a new season.
In an interview with People, co-creator Bill Lawrence explained that the show drew inspiration from Michael J. Fox and his journey since his Parkinson's diagnosis. Fox had previously starred in the first show Lawrence created, Spin City, which ran between 1996 and 2002. The legendary actor publicly revealed his Parkinson's diagnosis during the show's run in 1998. The duo reunited on Lawrence's series Scrubs, where Fox played Dr. Kevin Casey in two episodes.

For those who are missing Ted Lasso, Shrinking is a viable replacement. Hailing from the same creator, Bill Lawrence, alongside Brett Goldstein, who played Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, Shrinking stars Jason Segel (who also co-created the series) as Jimmy Laird, a therapist trying his best to deal with the sudden loss of his wife. He finds a renewed lease on life when he discovers that unconventional methods are helping his patients. But that means he neglects the rules at times, which leads to reckless results.
The series has a beautiful mix of heart and humor, drama and comedy. The second season is arguably even better than the first, as the story continues in a meaningful way, leading to compelling arcs for all the supporting characters as well.

If anyone can go toe-to-toe with Harrison Ford on the withering one-liners front, it is absolutely Kelly Bishop. So it makes total sense that the Gilmore Girls actress has been cast as Ford's character's ex-wife in season two of Shrinking. New photos from the forthcoming fifth episode, "Honesty Era" show the matriarch of the Gilmore family making her debut on Apple TV+'s heartwarming comedy.
In new photos exclusively revealed by Entertainment Weekly, we see Bishop popping up alongside not only Ford's character, Paul, but also Wendie Malick's Dr. Julie Baram (who is Paul's neurologist-turned-girlfriend on the Bill Lawrence series). Sometimes, it can be very difficult to decide whether to watch a serious drama, or a laugh-out-loud comedy. Fortunately, there are plenty of TV shows nowadays that provide a thoroughly entertaining blend of both of these genres. Of course, not every show that attempts to find the proper balance manages to do so effectively. Some programs end up just feeling like comedies with moments of drama randomly forced in, and others come off as serious shows that are merely being interrupted by unwanted jokes. After all, combining the two distinct elements is no easy feat.
Thankfully, certain gifted teams of creators are able to find just the right balance. While some may lean more toward the side of one or the other, these special TV shows successfully find ways to appeal to both fans of comedy and of drama. "I'm not from Hell, I'm from Indiana!" A festival promo trailer crashes in for an indie sci-fi comedy called Invaders From Proxima B, made by actor / filmmaker Ward Roberts. It's premiering in the next week at the 2023 Austin Film Festival in Texas, though has no other release dates set - it'll be touring at more fests. When a cute, wise-cracking alien from Proxima B named Chuck crash lands in their backyard, the Jankins family must work together to save their new fuzzy friend from a dangerous array of weirdos that show up in hot pursuit. The stakes couldn't be higher for Chuck, the Jankins, and maybe even all of planet Earth. It's super wacky – when the puppet alien shows up gets really fun. Reminds me of the kind of mega low budget, kooky and amusing early films the Duplass Bros or Kevin Smith made early on. Ward Roberts also stars with Samantha Sloyan,...

When Jim Mallon's "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie" was released in theaters back in 1996, many noted that it had a shorter running time than a single episode of the show on which it was based. "MST3K" ran for two hours, or 92 minutes with the commercials removed. The movie, in contrast, was an incredibly brief 77 minutes. This was in spite of an arch premise that needed to be explained to the audience, and multiple "host" sequences.
As it so happens, the original cut was much longer.
For the uninitiated: "MST3K" was a two-hour program that debuted on public access TV in Minnesota in 1988, and aired on Comedy Central and then the Sci-Fi Channel from 1989 to 1999. It has since been revived a few times and runs to this day on its own streaming service, the Gizmoplex. "MST3K" was typically scheduled late at night, recreating the experience of watching randomly programmed B-movies on after-hours network TV,...

The third weekend of February brings some fascinating exhibitions, some left-field film releases... and a cocaine-fuelled bear. Yep, you read that right.
But that’s not all that features in this week’s Arts Agenda, The Independent’s guide to the best cultural activities each and every weekend. Our team of critics and editors have selected a range of options from across the different spheres of culture: art, books, film, music, stage and TV.
Among the highlights are David Hockney’s new immersive experience at Lightroom (we’ve also got an exclusive interview with the man himself). TV editor Ellie Harrison talks about the return of ITV’s Unforgotten – sadly sans Nicola Walker – while film editor Adam White has found the perfect Netflix film to fill the Jennifer Coolidge-shaped hole in all our lives after The White Lotus. Arts editor Jessie Thompson, meanwhile, enthuses about Coco Mellors’ bingeable novel Cleopatra and Frankenstein,...

Stars: Clancy Brown, Caitlin Custer, Christine Kilmer, Jacob Elordi, Ema Horvath, Jennifer Irwin, James Bachman, Barak Hardley, Sarah Hay, Ben Hethcoat, Mike C. Nelson | Written and Directed by Ryan Spindell
Writer and director Ryan Spindell (Kirksdale) delivers to us a new entry into the world of anthology-based horror with The Mortuary Collection. The film takes a funeral home as its central location, a proven setting in the world of horror films.
The film, in my mind, immediately harkened back to such anthology delights as Tales from the Crypt, with Clancy Brown delivering a wonderfully energised performance as Montgomery Dark, the mortician. He’s a hoot in the role and it really pulls the whole film along in an enjoyable way, with his delivery as this central host-type figure. Now, believe me, I’ve seen my fair share of passable or even terrible portmanteau horror, but The Mortuary Collection drew me...

Repression is wild insofar as our minds pushing trauma down to the depths of our soul without a second thought. While guilt will ravage some to the point where certain actions become inescapable no matter what is used to numb the pain, others can completely detach themselves from the same memory. They will justify that they weren’t involved — innocent bystanders helping a friend who got in too far over his head. They fashion themselves as heroes whose karmic stockpile is cleansed from wrongdoing and thus renders them able to carry on as though nothing happened. Years go by and they forget it in a haze, merging that horrific event with the good times until unwittingly stumbling back as though called by their consciences to receive their long-awaited penance.
This notion of fate evening a score lies at the back of David McCracken’s Bullitt County even if we aren’t aware at the start.

Title: Hannah Has a Ho-Phase Directors: Nadia Munla and Jamie Jensen Starring: Meredith Forlenza, Genevieve Hudson Price, Quincy Dunn Baker, Mike C. Nelson, Matt Servitto, Kate McKinnon Agreeably cast but burdened with an overly predictable narrative and junior flyweight comedic punching power, New York-set indie “Hannah Has a Ho-Phase” is one of those post-”Bridesmaids” laffers (no matter its exact date of origin) that tries to put a Title IX spin on (slight) raunchiness and sexual acting out. In the zeitgeist shadow of something with a much more strongly defined voice, however, like Lena Dunham’s HBO series “Girls,” this slice of mock-shock has little going for it except for that great [ Read More ]

When Good Holiday’s Go Bad: Rise of the Fiend: “Halloween, that magical night that compels adults to act like children, children to gorge themselves and a host of creatures and ghouls, those nasty beasties that hide under your bed, in your closet or the deepest recesses of your mind, all come out to play, scaring and frightening their human victims; at least, that’s how it was in the old days.
Welcome to Halloween Hallow, a disturbing land where all the nefarious creatures that wander the world on Halloween night come to dwell during the off season. In this land of strange and weird creatures lives Jack, the only human ever allowed to live amongst them.
