The White Lotus creator teases much darker season 3: “The other seasons were a rehearsal for this one”
Image
The White Lotus season 3 will debut on HBO in just two weeks, and creator Mike White has teased that the new season will be “much, much darker” than the others.

“I do feel like the other seasons were a rehearsal for this one,” White told Time. “There’s stuff that I’ve never directed before.” The new season is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the course of a week. “They’re all in some kind of hurt,” White said of the new guests. “Like, they’re all dead, but they don’t know it…because it’s dealing with these existential tropes of facing into the nothingness of self [and] Buddhist themes that have life and death and ethical aspects, [the season] just got more heavy.“

White originally wanted to shoot the third season in Japan, but HBO wasn’t sure and...

The White Lotus renewed for season 4 at HBO
Image
Karma comes for everyone… again. Variety reports that HBO has renewed The White Lotus for season 4. This comes ahead of the premiere of season 3, which will debut on February 16th. The new season is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the course of a week.

The news isn’t a big surprise considering the popularity of the series. HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys even confirmed last year that creator Mike White was working on ideas for a fourth season. “Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the four seasons — he will do the fourth season,” Bloys said. Production on the fourth season is being eyed for 2026.

Rosamund Pike Silicon Valley Drama From Scott Z. Burns, Scott Galloway & Media Res Lands Netflix Series Order
Image
Netflix is getting further into the tech world with Scott Z. Burns and Scott Galloway’s Thumblite. After a bidding war, the streamer has landed Media Res’ corporate thriller package starring Rosamund Pike with a straight-to-series order.

Created and written by Extrapolations creator Burns, who serves as showrunner, Thumblite is set in Silicon Valley and examines the schemes, rivalries, visions and obsessions of the power brokers and their underlings as they vie for control of the most powerful industry the world has ever known.

Burns, Galloway and Pike executive produce alongside Greg Jacobs as well as Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res.

Netflix beat a number of rivals to the package, but interestingly, we hear Apple TV+, home of two Media Res series, The Morning Show and Pachinko, did not engage due to the fact that Thumblite touches on the same world that its parent company primarily operates in,...

HBO Executive Nora Skinner Joins Netflix As VP Drama Series

Exclusive: After eight and a half years as SVP Drama Series at HBO, Nora Skinner is gong to Netflix where she will be VP in the streamer’s drama series team. Based at Netflix’s Los Angeles headquarters, Skinner, a former film producer and executive, will start at the end of May, reporting to Jinny Howe, Netflix’s VP of Drama Series.

Skinner’s appointment follows Howe’s promotion in January to oversee all of Netflix’s drama areas. Skinner is not backfilling Howe’s previous role. Instead, she will lead development of elevated and prestige dramas, tapping into her experience working on such award-winning HBO series as Succession, The White Lotus, Mare Of Easttown and Watchmen.

Succession Wins Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama
Image
Succession wins the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama, tying with other major hits for most wins. Creator Jesse Armstrong talks about the bittersweet decision to end the show, thanking the team behind its success. The show also wins awards for performances by Matthew Macfadyen, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook.

The mega-hit drama series, Succession, continues to cement its legacy, taking home the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama. The HBO series’ victory ties the show, which follows the uber-wealthy, media and entertainment conglomerate-owning Roy family as they are thrown into a power struggle after their father steps down, with other major TV hits The X-Files and Mad Men for most Golden Globes wins for best drama.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong talked about the “bittersweet” decision to end the show, which came to its conclusion last year with its fourth season, and commended all those...

Image
Succession, which came to a rousing conclusion in May, has landed its third Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama, equaling the record for most wins in the category.

It marks the fourth victory of the night for the HBO drama series, created by Jesse Armstrong, after Matthew Macfadyen won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role On Television for playing Tom Wambsgans, Kieran Culkin won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series for playing Roman Roy and Sarah Snook won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama for playing Shiv Roy. That also equals the record for the most different actors winning for the same show in the drama field.

Succession becomes only the third drama to win three Golden Globes in the main category following The X-Files and Mad Men.

The White Lotus Season 3 Renewal Status

HBO picked up The White Lotus Season 3 in November as the sophomore run was airing.

"Reflecting on The White Lotus' humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it's impossible not to be awestruck by how Mike orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows, said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films said of the pickup.

"And yet, he's only continued to reach new heights in season 2, which is the ultimate testament to Mike's raw, unparalleled vision.

Everything We Know About ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 So Far
Image
“The White Lotus” Season 2 just wrapped up on HBO, bringing closure to weeks of tension threaded throughout the second installment of Mike White’s Emmy-winning anthology series. But one of the biggest questions most fans have after that finale is, what about “The White Lotus” Season 3? Well, here’s everything we know about the third season so far.

It’s Definitely Happening

There will absolutely be a “White Lotus” Season 3, as HBO officially renewed the series for a third season on Nov. 18, just a few weeks into Season 2’s airing. Indeed, ratings and critical reception to Season 2 were strong, so HBO was quick to order up another course of vacation intrigue.

The first season was initially billed as a limited series (and won Emmys as such), but was so popular that White and HBO decided to expand “The White Lotus” into an anthology show. Speaking of which…

Is The White Lotus Getting A Season 3?
Image
Sorry, were you hoping to book a weekend stay at The White Lotus? Too bad — this luxury resort is all booked up. The popularity of Mike White's sardonic drama has been soaring, with a buzzy second season to rival the first. Between that and the fact that it isn't nearly as expensive as some other HBO juggernauts (no need to digitally create 15 different dragons for this show!) it's no surprise to learn that "The White Lotus" has been renewed for a third season. So long as series creator Mike White is ready to deliver scathing commentary directed at wealthy elites, HBO is happy to fund him.

White, who created "The White Lotus," also serves as its executive producer, director, and its sole writer. David Bernad and Mark Kamine also executive produce. Of the series renewal, White said in a statement:

"There's no place I'd rather work than HBO and...

The White Lotus Season 3 is happening at HBO
Image
Start packing your bags and sharpen your detective skills because The White Lotus Season 3 is afoot at HBO. Created by Mike White, the multi-award-winning anthology series features a rotating cast of Hollywood greats, with Jennifer Coolidge playing Tanya McQuoid-Hunt in the first two seasons. White, who wrote and directed both seasons, shot the first as a contained pandemic production. Still, unfortunate filming conditions failed to keep the show from receiving 20 Emmy nominations, winning ten.

Feeling like a murder mystery, the first season of The White Lotus starred Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, Steve Zahn, Molly Shannon, Fred Hechinger, Brittany O’Grady, and Coolidge. The plot focuses on a group visiting the White Lotus resort in Maui, Hawaii. After bodies wash up on the beach, paranoia takes hold, and guests get strange.

In the second season, guests staying at the White Lotus in Taormina, Sicily,...

HBO’s officially renewed the Emmy-winning anthology series The White Lotus for a third season ahead of its season two finale. Created by Mike White, The White Lotus season one was set in Hawaii while season two takes in Italy. The renewal announcement didn’t confirm if any of either seasons’ cast members were returning or where season three will be set.

“There’s no place I’d rather work than HBO and there’s no people I’d rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner, and their incredible team. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus,” stated creator, writer, and director Mike White.

HBO on Friday announced a pickup for The White Lotus Season 3 on Friday.

The renewal comes as The White Lotus Season 2 is halfway through its seven-part run.

The first installment, which premiered July 2021 and was set in Hawaii, received 20 Emmy® nominations across 13 categories and ten wins, the most wins of any program that year, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

HBO’s currently on a trip to Sicily, but it’s already booked another stay at “The White Lotus.” Mike White’s anthology series has been renewed for a third season, the channel announced Thursday.

The news comes in the middle of the show’s second season, which premiered on October 30 and will conclude December 11 after seven episodes.

Like the first season, which premiered in July 2021, Season 2 revolves around the relationships, petty rivalries, and dysfunctions of the guests and employees staying at the titular luxury resort chain. And then there are the murders. Both seasons were shot on location at different vacation destinations — Season 1 in Hawaii, and Season 2 in Sicily. There are worse locales for a TV set. For Season 3, the show will again switch locations to a new White Lotus somewhere else in the world, although there’s no word yet on where White and the crew will be headed.

“The White Lotus” has been renewed for Season 3 at HBO.

The news of the renewal comes as creator Mike White’s hit anthology series has aired just three out of seven episodes of its second season. “The White Lotus” will return for Season 3, HBO announced on Friday. Fresh off the successful debut of the show’s second season, HBO has ordered a third installment of creator/writer/director/showrunner Mike White’s Emmy-winning anthology series.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 will feature new characters and a new setting, following in the footsteps of Season 2 which shifted the locale from Season 1’s Maui to Sicily (but still at a White Lotus hotel) and boasts an almost entirely new ensemble save for Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya and her new husband Greg.

Season 3 will, of course, take place at another White Lotus hotel.

‘The White Lotus’ Renewed For Season 3 At HBO

Mike White will be looking for a new five-star resort to check in to after HBO renewed The White Lotus for a third season.

It comes only three episodes in to season two, which is currently airing on Sunday nights.

What started as an experiment in contained filming during the pandemic has become one of the Warner Bros. Discovery network’s biggest and buzziest shows with the first episode of season two scoring over 7.6M viewers and the series ranking as the most-watched title on HBO Max.

As usual, the next chapter will feature new characters and locale – although you won’t be surprised if Jennifer Coolidge reprises her role as Tanya McQuoid-Hunt.

The first season, which premiered in July 2021, was set in Hawaii. It starred Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, Steve Zahn, Molly Shannon, Fred Hechinger and Brittany O’Grady alongside Coolidge.

The White Lotus will reopen its gates for a third season at HBO.

The premium cable outlet has renewed Mike White’s anthology series for another run. Details are scant at the moment, but HBO says the third season will follow a new group of guests at a different White Lotus resort.

HBO’s The White Lotus has won the 2022 Emmy for best limited or anthology series.

“I forgot to thank HBO my other speeches,” said The White Lotus writer-director Mike White, who earlier in the ceremony won Emmys for both writing and directing the anthology series.

“I’ve been talking about this show for 15 years,” said executive producer David Bernad. “It took a shared vision and unwavering trust of Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi and Nora Skinner at HBO to bring this to life.”

Bernad added: “To our exceptional cast and crew, you showed up every day — in the midst of global uncertainty, away from loved ones — and gave your heart and soul and passion to the show. We came together as a community to try and make something special, and through our collective efforts, we’re standing here today. We share this with the entire White Lotus family.

‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White Apologizes To HBO For Forgetting To Thank Them In “My Other Speeches” As Drama Wins Emmy Limited Series Trophy
Image
“I forgot to thank HBO in my other speeches,” said White Lotus creator Mike White tonight as the show won the 2022 Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

“Franny, Casey, Nora, I love you,” White added to HBO’s Drama boss Francesca Orsi, HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys and SVP, Original Programming Nora Skinner. “I know it’s an unconditional love, but sorry.”

Coming into tonight off five wins at the Creative Arts Emmys and 20 nominations in total, the White created White Lotus was widely seen as a favorite to take the big prize tonight. In a category up against Hulu’s Dopesick, The Dropout and Pam and Tommy, plus Netflix’s Inventing Anna, White Lotus‘ only real competition was the Micheal Keaton-led opioid crisis miniseries from Danny Strong.

Australian Actor Murray Bartlett, ‘The White Lotus’ Standout, Wins First Emmy, Thanks Mom Down Under
Image
The White Lotus breakout star Murray Bartlett claimed the first Emmy of his career tonight, for his outlandish role as Armond, the ingratiating but conniving luxury hotel manager in the HBO limited series.

Taking the stage at the Primetime Emmys, the Australian actor thanked series creator Mike White, and gave a shoutout to his mother.

“I just want to thank my mom all the way home in Australia for giving me the most wonderful foundation of unconditional love,” he said. “And inspiring me to believe that we can all do that for each other. So, thank you, Mom.“

Bartlett’s win (and first nomination ever) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie put him up against two other co-stars of The White Lotus, Steve Zahn (“Mark Mossbacher”) and Jake Lacy (“Shane Patton”).
