Biography

    • Joe Benedetto is a screenwriter/director/producer born in Brooklyn, New York. He is known for the films "A Guy Named Rick" and "Hide the Sausage" and the upcoming "Amazin'" and "Devastation."

      Benedetto grew up in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. His father was a 13-year U.S. Army veteran and then a U.S. Postal worker. His mother an office worker. He wrote his first screenplay at age 16 ("Unlimited Potential"), a film that he went on to write, produce, direct, and star at age 20.

      After his script "Candy from a Baby" was optioned by producer Bob Kosberg ("12 Monkeys"), Benedetto wrote and directed a series of short films from 2008-2010.

      His feature film "A Guy Named Rick" (in which he also appears in as GOD) was shot in late 2011 and released on DVD & VOD by Vanguard Cinema on June 25, 2013.

      His 2015 23-min b&w crime noir "Hide the Sausage" won several awards and was nominated for the Charlie Chaplin Award (Best Short Film) at the Blow Up: Chicago International Film Festival. The film can be seen worldwide on ShortsHD.

      In 2019, he was hired by Academy Award winning producer Brad Wyman ("Monster") to write the screenplay adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Jimmy Breslin's book "Can't Anybody Here Play This Game?" That screenplay is entitled "Amazin'."
