There are many films that revolve around biking. Some of the most entertaining film would have to Breaking Away (1979), BMX Bandits (1983), American Flyers (1985) and Turbo Kid (2015). But there is another film that focuses on a BMX bike, a race and a kid with big dreams. That film is 1986’s Rad.

The film Rad is coming up on its epic 40th anniversary. So, for this amazing anniversary, there needs to be a just as amazing release. Enter Mill Creek Entertainment, that have released a wonderful looking Blu-ray perfect for cult film fanatics.

March 16th Genre Releases Include PG: Psycho Goreman (Blu-ray/DVD), The Invisible Man Appears / The Invisible Man Vs. The Human Fly (Blu-ray), Promising Young Woman (Blu-ray/DVD)

This week’s batch of home media releases are an eclectic bunch of titles, where there’s definitely a little bit of something for everyone headed to Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow. As far as new films go, the award-winning Promising Young Woman is being released on both formats, and Rlje Films is keeping busy this Tuesday with their releases for both PG: Psycho Goreman and last year’s Castle Freak reimagining. Mill Creek Entertainment is putting out a killer Steelbook edition of Rad, and for those who are looking to check out some classic genre fare, Arrow has put together a special edition double feature release of The Invisible Man Appears and The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly, which has never been available outside of Japan until now.

Other releases for March 16th include Tower of Evil, I Am Lisa, Konga TNT, The Stay, The Parish, Sacrilege, and Todd.

The 1984 BMX Classic Rad wil be available on an extras-loaded Steelbook Blu-ray March 16th from Mill Creek Entertainment.

Cru Jones (Bill Allen) is the best BMX biker in Cochrane. He’s got the talent to become the best BMX daredevil in the world. Bart Taylor (Bart Conner) is the best BMX biker in the world, and he’s in town to race in the $100,000 Helltrack competition, the most grueling BMX race in history. Cru wants a shot at winning the title, but his mom (Talia Shire) insists he take his college entrance exams which fall on the same day. He decides to go for Helltrack, but the race promoter (Jack Weston) has a dirty scheme for keeping the local whiz kid out of the race and away from his prized champion. Only the gorgeous Christian (Lori Loughlin), a member of the opposite team, can get Cru on track for Helltrack!

Utopia Distribution announced recently that the company will be re-releasing the 1986 BMX cult classic Rad for the first time on DVD and On Demand this summer. The film, which was scheduled to have a 4K Restoration World Premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival, will launch across all Tvod and On Demand platforms on Friday, July 24th, with a ‘special edition’ premiere on the new digital streaming platform Altavod on Friday, July 10th and now available on Blu-ray directly through Vinegar Syndrome. Whether you experienced the Helltrack on the big screen in the ’80s or you've ridden it vicariously over the years from the comfort of your own couch, then you'll be pleased to know that Hal Needham's BMX movie Rad has been restored in 4K and is coming to Altavod on July 10th, followed by a VOD release on July 24th.

The Rad restoration was lovingly overseen by legendary actress Talia Shire and filmmaker Robert Coppola Schwartzman, the wife and son (respectively) of the late Rad producer Jack Schwartzman.

Rad 4K Trailer Brings the BMX Classic Back in Ultra HD

A new trailer for the 4K restoration of Rad has been released. Utopia Distribution partnered with Vinegar Syndrome to bring the 80s cult classic to the modern age, as it had largely been lost to time in many ways. The movie hadn't officially been made available on disc and certainly hadn't been given an HD update. That has been amended, as this trailer reveals that it has been brought back to life and will be available on digital platforms next month.

The trailer gives a general overview of the plot, which sees an underdog BMX rider looking to compete in a notorious race. It largely focuses on the stunt riding and tricks that have helped to make the movie the classic of sorts that it has become.
