Danielle Macdonald
Stay-at-Home Seven: January 13 to 19 by Amber Wilkinson

Patti Cake$, 1.30am, Film4, Tuesday, January 13

Featuring a central performance that put Aussie actress Danielle Macdonald's name firmly on the map, this enjoyable tale of a New Jersey kid who dreams of being a rapper has so much gusto it re-energises its familiar themes. Geremy Jasper's debut also has an authenticity to the scripting and relationships that cuts through a lot of the cliches. New Europe Film Sales Boards Sundance 2023 World Dramatic Competition Title ‘Girl’
Image
Exclusive: Warsaw-based New Europe Film Sales has acquired world sales rights for Adura Onashile’s feature debut Girl, starring rising French actress Déborah Lukumuena and big screen debutant Le’Shantey Bonsu.

The buzzy title, which was unveiled at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival’s Works in Progress showcase, was announced today as having been selected for the World Dramatic Competition of Sundance’s upcoming edition, running January 19-29, 2023

The Scotland-set drama tells the story of eleven-year-old Ama and her mother, Grace, who take solace in the gentle but isolated world they obsessively create.

But Ama’s thirst for life and her need to grow and develop challenge the rules of their insular world and gradually force Grace to reckon with a past she struggles to forget.

Established Glasgow-based theatre actress and director Onashile (Expensive Shit) wrote the screenplay and directs.

It marks the first English-language role for Lukumuena, who broke out...

Acm Talent is expanding its team with veteran voice-over agent Robyn Starr. Starr moves to Acm following a nearly two-decade stint at Buchwald.

Starr, who began her career with Abrams Artists Agency, has worked with top voice-over talent and has booked campaigns for major brands including At &T, Subway, Lowes, Nissan and Verizon, among others. Long-time clients and buyers will be moving with Starr to Acm, co-founders Marc Guss and Phil Sutfin said in announcing Starr’s hire.

“We set out to create the most integrated and diverse Vo talent representation company. The voice-over world has dramatically evolved over the recent years and we needed to as well so when the opportunity arose to work with Robyn, it was a no-brainer. [Review] The 2012 Oscar-Nominated Live-Action Shorts
The Oscar Nominated Shorts, at least in the live action category, are as problematic as the Oscars themselves: all professionally made, and all without the profound emotional impact of a great film to touch, inspire and move.
