Was a Professional Wrestler.

The MTV Home (2009) challenge "Aushalten - Rauchen" ("Endure it - Smoking") which involved him and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf smoking various tobacco products nonstop while sitting in a car with closed windows resulted in him getting nicotine poisoning and being sick for 3 hours in the evening on the day it was filmed, never having smoked except for a brief couple of months as a teen. Longtime smoker Klaas Heufer-Umlauf did not smoke at the time the challenge was filmed either, having quit several years earlier, but ended up taking up smoking again two weeks after.

Has a daughter, Mila-Marie (b. 31 July 2010), with his partner Lisa.

He has a fear of heights.

Born in Mönchengladbach, he grew up in the Waldniel district of Schwalmtal with his two older sisters. They were raised by their father after their mother's death from breast cancer when Joko was 6.

He owns more clothes than his partner Lisa.

He dislikes how he looks without glasses.

From age 14, he attended a boarding school, allegedly because his father no longer had him under control.

After his Abitur with a grade point average of 3.7, he started vocational training as an advertising manager but did not finish it.

In 2009, he founded the fashion label German Garment along with actor Matthias Schweighöfer, designer Kilian Kerner and music producer Sebastian Radlmeier.

After quitting his training as a marketing manager, he applied for training as a licensed pilot but was unsuccessful.

In July 2019, he founded a startup company specializing in the distribution of an affordable electric bike, Sushi, along with Andreas Weinzierl.

His Abitur grade point average was the second-worst of his class, only better than that of another male student whose result was 3.8.

He is interested in sports and cars and particularly enjoys watching Formula 1.

His sisters are ten and eleven years older than him respectively.

Most of his glasses are by Dieter Funk/Funk Eyewear.

In 2015, he was chosen as the Kuratorium Gutes Sehen e. V.'s "Brillenträger des Jahres" ("Spectacle Wearer of the Year"), a title which since 2000 has been awarded annually to honor public figures who are being viewed as role models in regard to wearing glasses.

He attended the boarding school of Gymnasium Haus Overbach in the Barmen district of Jülich for some time.
