Jun Gu is an award-winning Chinese documentary filmmaker known for exploring sports, culture, and identity. A 1991 graduate of the Beijing Film Academy, she made history as the first Asian woman to direct an official film titled The Everlasting Flame (2009), the official documentary of the Beijing Olympics for the International Olympic Committee, now archived at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne along with Dream Weavers - Beijing 2008. Her work has won honors at the Milano International FICTS Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, and Newport Beach Film Festival. Over three decades, Gu has directed more than 90 episodes of documentary television, including acclaimed series such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Between China and the US. In 2019, she shifted toward intimate, emotionally driven storytelling with Notes Unheard. In this film, set to be released in 2025, Jun spent four years observing a blind Chinese viola prodigy and his father's journey navigating academic pressure, familial control, and personal agency.
