The Duffer Brothers Admit That ‘The Boroughs’ Shares DNA With ‘Stranger Things’ As They Preview 2 New Series For Netflix
Image
When word of The Boroughs, a new series produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers, first got out more than two years ago, the supernatural/horror drama was referred to as “Stranger Things at a retirement home.”

Netflix pushed back at that description and the link between the two shows. At the streamer’s Next on Netflix 2025 slate presentation Wednesday, the Duffers made the connection themselves, revealing for the first time that, like their Stranger Things counterparts, the characters in The Burroughs also will be battling “otherworldly evil.”

The Duffers made the comments while speaking about two upcoming series from their Upside Down Pictures, The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.

“Of the two projects, The Boroughs probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil,” Matt Duffer said. “Only unlike Stranger Things, it...

6 broadcast TV cancellations in 2024 we're still salty about
Image
Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

Shonda Rhimes is one of the biggest names in modern television history, with an expansive media empire called Shondaland dominating the industry. Since 2005, shes cranked out several bangers, including How to Get Away With Murder, Scandal, Bridgerton, and, of course, her gem Greys Anatomy.

Good Medicine

Venerable medical ensemble Grey’s Anatomy returns for Season 21 on September 26 after last year’s “Thursday night massacre,” which left viewers wondering about the fallout. Catherine (Debbie Allen), whose Fox Foundation runs the hospital, was angry at Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) for using foundation funding for Alzheimer’s research and publishing the results without approval. Amelia was fired, and Meredith resigned. Then Catherine fired Owen (Kevin McKidd) for allowing his wife, Teddy (Kim Raver) — sacked the episode prior — to help him save Station 19 firefighter Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda). “Everyone’s job is on the line,” says showrunner Meg Marinis. “I don’t think anybody will expect what we’ve got planned and how they reconcile the job losses. I’ll just say that Catherine is a very spiteful person, and it’s not like those people are back working at the hospital. She is true to her word.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Jason George Returning as Series Regular After ‘Station 19’ Conclusion
Image
Jason George is returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” as a series regular after seven seasons of starring spinoff series “Station 19,” which aired its series finale in May.

George joined “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2010, playing surgical resident Ben Warren as a recurring role beginning with Season 6, before being upped to series regular in 2015’s Season 12.

After three seasons as a series regular, he left the series to join “Station 19” in 2018, with Ben deciding to become a firefighter. The spinoff was led by George and fellow “Grey’s Anatomy” alum Stefania Stefania Spampinato as Carina DeLuca alongside new cast members Jaina Lee Ortiz, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Miguel Sandoval, Boris Kodjoe, Carlos Miranda, Josh Randall, Merle Dandridge and Pat Healy.

In the series finale of “Station 19,” titled “One Last Time,” Ben makes the decision to return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and work as a surgeon again.

Station 19 Ending, Explained
Image
Quick Links What Is Station 19 About? The Set-Up for Station 19's Finale What Happens to the Station 19 Characters in the Finale?

Following its seven-season, 110-episode run, Station 19 has finally been extinguished. The popular Grey's Anatomy spin-off concluded its final episode on May 30, 2024, tying several outstanding storylines together and wrapping up multiple character arcs with largely satisfying results. The two-part finale revolves around a massive wildfire that requires the members of Seattle Fire Station 19 to work together, risk their lives, and put out the blaze before it engulfs the city. Meanwhile, several personal plot points are wrapped up, including those involving Andy, Ben, Vic, Theo, Travis, and others.

Of course, with so many moving parts and confusing crossover episodes with Grey's Anatomy, it's easy to get lost in the fray and miss a few crucial story beats featured in the series finale. For those left wondering what happens...

Why Station 19 Series Finale Didn't Kill Any Main Characters Explained By Showrunner
Image
The article contains spoilers for the Station 19 series finale, "One Last Time."

Station 19's series finale did not kill off any major characters. The farewell episode involves one shocking character's death - Kate Powell. Showrunner Zoanne Clack explained that the decision aimed to provide an ending without grief, while still honoring the show's dangerous premise.

Station 19 showrunner Zoanne Clack discusses why the series finale did not include any major deaths. It was announced late last year that Station 19 season 7 would be the last, serving as a curtain call for the firefighter drama that has starred the likes of Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Boris Kodjoe, Stefania Spampinato, Carlos Miranda, Josh Randall, Merle Dandridge, and Pat Healy. Despite the large ensemble cast and a deadly fire emergency, the Station 19 series finale keeps all the main characters alive.

9 Station 19 Characters Who Can Still Return In Grey's Anatomy
Image
Spoilers are ahead for the Station 19 series finale.

The Station 19 finale featured the team banding together against a wildfire. Given Ben Warren's decision to return to the world of surgery and Carina and Maya's happy ending, several key Station 19 characters will likely appear in future seasons of Grey's Anatomy. The show's protagonist, Captain Andy Herrera, takes on a dangerous mission, survives, and eventually becomes Seattle's fire chief, making a future guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy even more likely.

After six years and seven seasons, ABC's Station 19 came to a fiery end. In the Station 19 series finale, the tight-knit Seattle Fire Station 19 family was tasked with containing a rapidly spreading wildfire that was threatening their city. Under dire conditions, which included enough wind to fuel a literal fire tornado, the Station 19 team pulled through. Led by series' protagonist Captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz...

Jason George Poised To Return To ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ After End Of ‘Station 19’
Image
Exclusive: In 2017, Jason George left ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy to help launch its spinoff series, Station 19. For seven seasons, he was a series regular on the firefighter drama as Ben Warren while making frequent guest appearances on the mothership series. With Station 19 coming to an end, all signs point to him going back to Grey’s Anatomy, a return which the Station 19 finale helped set up.

According to sources, there is no deal in place and the exact capacity in which George would return to Grey’s Anatomy is unclear but talks are ongoing, and the intent is to have him back on the show where he has been since Season 6, including a series regular stint from S12-S14, before moving to Station 19. Reps for ABC and ABC Signature, which produces Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, declined comment.

Rumblings about George potentially rejoining Grey’s Anatomy next season started in January.

‘Station 19’ Says Goodbye: What Happened To Each Character in the Series Finale?
Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “One Last Time,” the series finale of ABC’s“Station 19,” now streaming on Hulu.

For a show that spent most of its time putting its characters in mortal danger, it’s remarkable that “Station 19” completed its series finale with nearly everyone alive and well — except, of course, for Kate (Kiele Sanchez), the newest addition to 19 who never did quite manage to become a part of the family. Kate got sucked up into a fire tornado — a firenado, perhaps — becoming the finale’s only casualty. Despite injuries and burns and smoke inhalation, everyone else lived on to firefight another day, with visions of their bright futures dancing ahead of them. After years of dealing with the harsh realities of firefighting, they all got their happy ending.

The episode, which was directed by showrunner Peter Paige, spent most of its time continuing to...

‘Station 19’: What To Expect From Emotional Series Finale
Image
Station 19 ends tonight on ABC. The finale will finish off the show after seven seasons. When it comes to what fans can expect, the co-showrunners (Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige) only had a little bit of time to figure out how to wrap up the show for the fans.

It sounds like they did it right, as star Jason George said fans would need some “tissues” to get through the emotional episode. Here is what you need to know.

Station 19 Finale To Be Emotional

There have been a lot of angry fans watching TV this season. Shows like CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai’i ended with cliffhangers. This means that the fans never got closure after all the hours they dedicated to following the shows and their characters. However, Station 19 will have closure because ABC warned them in time to finish it.
