He became best friends with his neighbor, Norma Cook, an 89 year old woman in 2016. When she was having some trouble related to health and age and living alone, he offered her to move in with him and become his roommate, which she did, including getting her a hospital bed which he set up in his living room. Ultimately their friendship made the newspapers, and he was profiled as a good Samaritan and a true friend. Ultimately, as the health of his friend failed, he helped care for her and eased her transition into death, and helped her to celebrate her own life. All of this was profiled in the newspaper.
