Vanessa Hope is an award-winning director, writer and producer of internationally minded fiction and nonfiction films set to date in the U.S., China, Afghanistan and Taiwan that have been selected by the Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, IDFA, and CPH:DOX film festivals.
Vanessa and her husband, Ted Hope, share a company, Double Hope Films. Prior to her film career, Vanessa worked on foreign policy issues at the Council on Foreign Relations think tank in New York. She received her B.A. from the University of Chicago in Anthropology and East Asian Studies and completed the coursework for a PhD at Columbia University before going into film. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and French.
Vanessa co-wrote a 10 episode podcast (with Karina Longworth) about her grandparents, film producer and studio executive Walter Wanger, president of the Academy during WW2, and Joan Bennett, film noir actress and producer, and their film careers, lives and loves in the Golden Age of Hollywood. It's called "Love is a Crime" and available wherever you get your podcasts.
