William Shatner's Kirk Made His Return In A Star Trek Short Film You Probably Missed

In 2024, a computer graphics company called Otoy teamed up with the Roddenberry Archive to make a sanctioned, perhaps even canonical "Star Trek" short film called "765874 - Unification." The 11-minute short, directed by Carlos Baena and written by Jules Urbach, was released on the Roddenberry.x.io website on November 18, and many Trekkies were surprised to see the presence of notable actors such as William Shatner, Gary Lockwood, and Robin Curtis. Shatner and Lockwood were especially surprising, as Shatner is 93 years old, but looked exactly the same way he did in 1994 when he shot "Star Trek: Generations." Lockwood, 88, was de-aged to look like he did in his 1966 "Star Trek" episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before." At the end of the short, Leonard Nimoy, who died in 2015, was digitally resurrected for a brief encounter between Kirk and Spock.

"Unification" was the...

Review: Echoes of Darkness: A Star Wars Fan Film - One of the strongest fan-made Star Wars offerings to date
Image
A new fan-made project called Echoes of Darkness: A Star Wars Fan Film has just been uploaded to YouTube, and it will definitely impress anyone who watches it.

Written and directed by Gary Scullion, who also helmed fan films such as The Witcher 3: The Sorceress of Vengerberg and Mission: Implausible, Echoes of Darkness can now be viewed on the channel of his production company, Sneaky Zebra. The fan film focuses on a ragtag group of smugglers who travel to the Forest Moon of Endor in order to retrieve Darth Vader's burned armor, so that they can sell it to the First Order.

As longtime fans will be aware, Anakin’s body disappeared as he became one with the Force shortly after his death. Therefore, Luke’s burning of the empty armor at the end of Return of the Jedi was more of a symbolic gesture which represented his...

Is the 'Star Trek' Short Film 'Unification' Canon?
Image
On November 17, 2024, Star Trek fans were delighted by the surprise short film 765874 - Unification. Released by The Roddenberry Archive, this short film was timed to be released in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek: Generations, which opened in theaters on November 18, 1994. The seventh film in the Star Trek franchise bridged the gap between Star Trek: The Original Series by having Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) meet Captain Jean-Luc Piccard (Patrick Stewart) and concluded with Kirk's death. 30 years later, 765874 - Unification not only looks to provide an epilogue for Star Trek: Generations but does a similar purpose to that film, uniting various corners of the Star Trek franchise, including The Kelvin timeline films and Star Trek: Discovery.

The short film follows the spirit of James T. Kirk in the afterlife following his death in Star Trek: Generations and was created by the VFX studio Otoy. William Shatner reprises...

William Shatner and Patrick Stewart in Star Trek : Générations (1994)
Star Trek short film 765874 – Unification reunites William Shatner’s Kirk with Leonard Nimoy’s Spock
William Shatner and Patrick Stewart in Star Trek : Générations (1994)
The 1994 film Star Trek: Generations showed us the final moments in the life of Captain James T. Kirk, as played by William Shatner. In the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond, we learned that Kirk’s great friend Spock, as played by Leonard Nimoy, had passed away, acknowledging the fact that Nimoy himself passed away in 2014. The newly released Star Trek short film 765874 – Unification, which was created by the VFX studio Otoy, catches up with Kirk in the afterlife in the moments after his Star Trek: Generations death and takes him on a trip through space and time so he can be reunited with Spock in the last moments of his life. It’s a sweet idea, and you can check it out in the embed above.

I am a fan of the Star Trek movies, but I have barely seen any of the TV shows, so I’m not well-versed enough...

Watch a Ravenous Creature Seek Next Meal at High School in Short Film Troubled Youth
A high school becomes a buffet for a hungry creature with a taste for human flesh in the short film Troubled Youth. Written, directed, and edited by Emily Dell, Troubled Youth received over three million views since it premiered on Crypt TV, and we have a look at the full short film for Daily Dead readers to enjoy.

The creature for Troubled Youth was created by Chloe Sense and Kaeghlan Ashley, and while the monster's name may be Fluffy, don't let that fool you: this is one supremely creepy creature that gives a whole new meaning to "school lunch."

Featuring a twisted blend of horror and humor, Troubled Youth showcases a cast that includes Christopher Westbrook, Abbey May, Avra Friedman, Noam Sigler, Cami Marie, and Gordon Tarpley. Newswire: Some jerk parked their X-Wing in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard
In what’s either a cool decoration for this weekend’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiere in Hollywood or yet another example of some asshole in Los Angeles who thinks the rules don’t apply to him, a life-size X-Wing fighter has appeared in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard. It appears to be a standard T-65B model (not the newer T-70), and it’s decorated in a traditional Red Squadron paint job much like the X-Wing flown by Rebel Alliance pilot Luke Skywalker during the Battle Of Yavin.

Variety says the ship is located between Ivar Avenue and Vine Street, and it has caused a handful of mildly disruptive road closures. You can see some photos of the X-Wing from Twitter below:

So, there’s an X-wing in Hollywood. No big deal. #StarWars #RogueOne #XWing pic.twitter.com/YnlYfxyJvW
