Charlotte Roustang

Charlotte Roustang was born in Paris. After attending various theater classes and acting on stage until the high-school diploma, she went on to study business and management in Toulouse Business School and specialized in Information and Communications Technology. Despite a promising debut by founding an internet start-up and then as a senior consultant in the consulting firm Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, her early passion for the theater caught up with her again in 2001. She moved to Berlin and went back to theater (as an actress and assistant director) and quickly moved to film making. She started in the film industry in Berlin as a production trainee to Philippe Bober at The Coproduction Office and then as director assistant to Carsten Ludwig on his first feature. After gaining some experience, she moved back to Paris where she studied cinema at the University of Paris 8. She then produced and directed short movies, promotional films, music videos and documentaries (such as "Paris de Femmes" - a 52 min. piece for France 3). She also worked as an actress, camerawoman (for TV and music videos), also director assistant, casting director and acting coach for the independent cinema. Meanwhile, she curated art (painting and sculptures) and photographic exhibitions, for example for the Paris City Hall. In Paris, she launched with young producers Collectif Prod, an active collective for young filmmakers and, later on in Berlin The European Casting Studio. She lived in Berlin again from 2009 till 2019, where she shot her third short film, "The Saviour." It was released in various festivals such as Hof, Hamburg, Berlin, Mumbai and was broadcast on Arte in 2015. In 2019, she moved to Rome where she still lives today. She produced and directed her first indie movie "My lonely Christmas in Berlin" that is in post-production. She has developed a couple of projects: for example German-French series ("The Killing Water") for which she received a screenwriting financing from the CNC (FAIE). Beside her activity as an author-director, since the pandemic, she developed her career in production, working for the Parisian company Paiva film (Mediawan) and Italian companies. Since April 2022, she joined Quasar Productions in Udine (Italy) as Head of development for the cinema.
