Grandstand named after Andrew Symonds unveiled at Townsville's Riverway Stadium
Image
Townsville (Australia), Sep 30 (Ians) The Grandstand at the Riverway Stadium in Townsville, Queensland on Friday was officially named after late Australia cricketing great Andrew Symonds.

The ribbon cutting of unveiling of the grandstand at the stadium named in honour of Symonds was done his children Chloe and Billy along with wife Laura Vidmar, mother Barbara Symonds and aunt Louise Symonds in an emotional occasion organised by the Townsville City Council.

“I loved to go to the park and play with him, and then we’d come here (Riverway) and play in the nets. He loved teaching Will about cricket too, so he’d teach Will a lot and I’d throw the balls. Thank you so much for naming the grandstand after him. It feels like he’s going to be loved from every direction, like he’s going to be loved by everyone,” Symonds’ daughter Chloe, 10, was quoted as...

Madeline Kahn
Madeline Kahn movies: 12 greatest films, ranked worst to best, include ‘Young Frankenstein,’ ‘Blazing Saddles’
Madeline Kahn
We lost Madeline Kahn, a farceur extraordinaire, far too soon. And her list of film appearances, especially ones that fully showcase her unique comedic talents, is tragically short. But thank goodness for that marvelously mad Mel Brooks for letting her loose in a quartet of some of the most gut-bustingly funny female performances in cinematic history.

Kahn, who passed away at age 57 in 1999, would have celebrated her 76th birthday on September 29. What better way to salute her legacy on the big screen than to recall the two-time Oscar nominee’s 12 greatest movies, ranked from worst to best. Our photo gallery above includes “Blazing Saddles,” “What’s Up, Doc?” and “Young Frankenstein.”

There is a reason that there never was a “Part 2.” This slapdash episodic burlesque of eras past ranging from the Stone Age to the Spanish Inquisition finds Kahn as...

Ken Davenport
Broadway’s ‘Gettin’ The Band Back Together’ To Close Next Month
Ken Davenport
Gettin’ The Band Back Together, the rock musical that just opened August 13 at the Belasco Theatre, has set its last performance for Sunday, September 30. It will have played 30 previews and 40 performances. The producers announced the decision Friday.

“It’s not just the money, but when a team of the most creative people you know spends years of their lives working toward a common goal, and it doesn’t turn out the way you all dreamed..it’s heart-crushing,” producer Ken Davenport wrote candidly in a blog post about the decision, which he said made over the past 24 hours.

Davenport said the call was especially tough as he said “surveys of actual Telecharge ticket buyers and got a 98.2% positive rating, and an exceptionally high “Net Promoter Score.” (How likely they are to tell their friends and family to get tickets.),” he said.
