It’s rare to find a film like “Sorry, Baby” (2025) that is so assured in what it wants to say and how it wants to say it. Eva Victor achieves this with remarkable ease. The only thing many viewers, including me, knew about this film until its Sundance debut was an image of a woman holding a kitten in her hands and looking at it as if she feels for it with every fiber of her being. Victor kept the synopsis as vague as possible, letting the film do its work only when you watch it. Well, it works wonders.
The film wrecks your heart in pieces and finds a way to put it all back together through its seamless tonal transitions. One moment, it makes you giggle like a kid, and a few beats later, it leaves you with a lump in your throat. Then, there are those awkwardly...

Eva Victor as Agnes, in writer/director Eva Victor’s indie drama/comedy Sorry, Baby. Courtesy of A24.
Offbeat independent drama/comedy Sorry, Baby accomplishes a rare feat, combining a smart, witty yet touching drama about recovery from trauma with a surprising dark humor and social commentary, while also offering a portrait of the power of true friendship. Sorry, Baby is a different kind of story about pain and healing, a portrait of a quirky, appealing woman named Agnes, who seems fine at work but secretly is stuck still struggling with the pain of a traumatic experience from her graduate student days, while everyone else has moved on. Ultimately, Agnes finds a way towards healing, with the help of her best friend, the only person who really gets her.

Both in movies and on television, stories set in airplanes — or that are tied to events in an airplane — tend to be thrilling and spark viewers' curiosity. The last hit show that featured an airborne plot was Manifest, a 2018 thriller and mystery series that saw a group of passengers simply disappear mid-flight and land five and a half years later as if no time had passed. In light of its possibility, Peacock quickly added to its catalog a show with a similar potential that was almost equally popular. Now that it's premiered on Netflix, the Canadian series Departure is once again seeing a rise in its popularity.
Depending on how you look at it, Departure can even be considered a sort of "sister" series to Manifest. The story centers around the Tsif (Transport Safety and Investigations Bureau), an entity that investigates and tries to understand the cause of major airline disasters.

In the wake of Anna Kendrick’s success in the charming black comedy A Simple Favor and way before its sequel, Another Simple Favor, she was tapped to star in HBO Max’s Love Life, which unfortunately ran for a short time. Created by Sam Boyd, the rom-com premiered on May 27, 2020, but was cancelled in December 2022, a month after its Season 2 finale. Now, close to three years later, fans will be beyond thrilled to know that Love Life has found a new streaming home in the U.S. thanks to Netflix.
As confirmed by What’s on Netflix, Love Life will arrive on Netflix U.S. on August 5 for the first time with two seasons and all twenty episodes. It’s no secret that the show was one of the earliest HBO Max Originals and performed well among viewers. However, after being removed from the streamer, it became widely unavailable,...

A24’s black comedy Sorry, Baby, comedian and actor Eva Victor‘s feature writing and directing debut produced by Barry Jenkins, opens at Lincoln Square and Angelika in NY, and the Grove and Century City in L.A.. This was one of the buzziest titles in Sundance and one of the few there to sell in a major deal — for about $8 million.
“A star is born, and so is a born filmmaker,” said Deadline’s review, with Pete Hammond calling it “one of the most assured and heartfelt films I have seen in a very long time.” It went on to close the Directors’ Fortnight section at Cannes.
The film lands amid a box office boom with another big weekend led by F1 and M3GAN 2.0. Indie distributors have been carefully evaluating whether the rising tide of the past few months lifts all boats and has been rather upbeat so far.

Penny Noble, who was a co-founder the major Canadian talent agency Noble Caplan Abrams (Nca), has died.
Rick Gerrits, a film and TV agent at Nca, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Noble had died on June 23 in Toronto five months after a diagnosis for brain cancer. Her family declined to offer a birthdate and age of death for Noble.
Born in Toronto, Noble founded Noble Talent Management in 1977 as she rode the coattails of an expanding Canadian film and TV industry.
That banner would eventually become Noble Caplan in 1998 and then Noble Caplan Abrams in 2003, and with a Canadian client list that includes Drake, Simu Liu, Kelly McCormack, Stephen James and Nina Dobrev.
Fellow Nca founder Rich Caplan in a statement said of his longtime business partner: “Penny Noble was a tireless overachiever, a philanthropist, a creator, an entrepreneur, a collaborator, a glass ceiling breaker and one helluva talent agent.

When “Sorry, Baby” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, it was one of the event’s few sensations and sparked a major bidding war between Neon, Mubi and Searchlight Pictures.
Ultimately, A24 proved victorious, setting the film for a June 27 theatrical release. And now, the studio has dropped the first trailer for the film, which you can watch below.
“Sorry, Baby” marks the directorial debut of writer/director Eva Victor, a journalist, actress and content creator. She also stars in the feature alongside Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch and Kelly McCormack.
In the film, Victor plays Agnes, a college professor in a small Northeastern town who is coming to terms with a sexual assault that happened years earlier. Ackie plays her best friend, who helps her process the trauma, while Hedges is her unlikely new romantic partner. The movie is quietly moving, earnest and raw,...

A24 has made a name for itself for producing critically acclaimed films and shows. The same trend continues with a new Sundance darling: Sorry, Baby.
The production company just released the first trailer for Sorry, Baby, one of the hits at this year's Sundance Film Festival in January ahead of the film's release this summer. The black comedy-drama was sold in a huge deal for $8 million to A24, and it marks Eva Victor's directorial debut.
Sorry, Baby stars Victor as the leading character, Agnes, a college professor who tries to recover from a traumatic event in her life as everyone around her is moving on. The drama also stars Blink Twice's Naomi Ackie, Manchester by the Sea's Lucas Hedges, The Trial of the Chicago 7's John Carroll Lynch, Killers of the Flower Moon's Louis Cancelmi, and Killjoys' Kelly McCormack.

A24 has just released the first trailer for Sorry, Baby. The film stars Eva Victor, Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch, Louis Cancelmi, and Kelly McCormack. Eva Victor is pulling triple duty as she also wrote and directed the film. The logline reads, “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least.” The trailer for the film it isn’t shy to showcase all the positive reception that it has gotten from early festival screenings.
Sorry, Baby walked away from Sundance with one of the buzziest deals of the fest. While the $8 million shelled out for it didn’t set any records, it was more who bought it that made an impression, with it being nabbed by A24. Perhaps the only studio with a cult following, its purchase all but guarantees Sorry, Baby is going to connect with hip audiences in a big way.

The finest narrative film to emerge from the Sundance Film Festival this year, Eva Victor’s directorial debut Sorry Baby non-chronologically follows the writer-director as a woman reeling from a traumatic event in her past. Backed by Barry Jenkins and Adele Romanski’s Pastel, who also produced Aftersun, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt, and Never Rarely Sometimes Always, we recently featured the film in our summer movie preview. With a cast also including Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch, Louis Cancelmi, and Kelly McCormack, A24 has now released the first trailer ahead of a June 27 release.

The sequel to Paul Feig’s twisty-turney mystery comedy A Simple Favor, titled Another Simple Favor, aims to weave an even bigger web as the movie premiered at SXSW. Our Chris Bumbray was present at its screening and thought it was pretty fun, though not as good as the original as he said in his review, “It’s absolutely watchable, if not a patch on the surprisingly rock-solid original. It should prove to be a big streaming hit for Prime Video, and while it’s not a movie that cried out to be made, taken as a lark, it’s good fun.”
The film has a bit of controversy to navigate with its star, Blake Lively, currently being in an on-going case of harassment from her It Ends with Us director. However, Deadline reveals that actress Sharon Stone has thrown shade at it as she reveals in a snide way...

Sharon Stone Claims She Was Cast and Dropped from “Another Simple Favor” in Snarky Instagram Comment

The film, which is set to be released on May 1, is a sequel to A Simple Favor (2018) and reunites Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the lead roles. The movie had its world premiere at SXSW, and while Stone’s name wasn’t reported as being part of the cast, she shared a surprising comment on Instagram under an E! News post about the film.

It's been nearly seven years, but director Paul Feig is back with his first-ever sequel in the form of "Another Simple Favor." This is the follow-up to the filmmaker's decadent, complex mystery thriller "A Simple Favor," which was released theatrically in 2018. Headlined by Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, it was a big hit in its day. Now, the folks at Amazon have ponied up the dough to bring the gang back for a sequel, which will premiere directly on Prime Video.
Feig, who is best known as the director of comedies like "Bridesmaids" and "Spy," had some reservations about making a sequel to what is arguably his most serious movie to date. He explained ahead of the world premiere of "Another Simple Favor" at this year's SXSW in Austin, Texas that he was worried about living up to the original. In his mind, it was a reasonable fear, as most...

Although it marks director Paul Feig’s first stab at a sequel, Another Simple Favor is anything but another simple attempt at cashing in on existing IP.
The SXSW 2025 opening-night film picks up five years after mommy blogger Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) exposed pal Emily Nelson’s (Blake Lively) crimes and had her sent to prison, as the mysterious fashionista is sprung from the joint. Her first order of business is inviting her frenemy to be her maid-of-honor in a Capri destination wedding to Italian heir Dante Versano (Michele Morrone). But when someone starts murdering the guests, Steph finds herself at the center of another mystery involving Emily.
Although fans of the original might be wondering how Emily could possibly convince Stephanie to endure her bridezilla whims on an island thousands of miles away, that’s quickly answered in the most Emily way possible. Not only does she promise plenty...

Finally, some Blake Lively news that has nothing to do with lawsuits, Justin Baldoni, or It Ends With Us. Amazon Prime Video has remembered that Lively is an actress, and they have a movie to promote. Another Simple Favor, the sequel to the 2018 black comedy mystery thriller, A Simple Favor, takes the action to Capri, Italy, and the first trailer shows that Lively's Emily Nelson isn't done with Anna Kendrick's Stephanie Smother just yet.
The first teaser trailer takes us back into the world of A Simple Favor by recalling Stephanie's (Kendrick) first encounter with the mysterious yet glamorous Emily Nelson (Lively) before shifting to what appears to be the main story, which involves Emily's wedding to an Italian businessman on the island of Capri. Despite what transpired in the first film, Stephanie has been invited to the wedding, where, as the title suggests, Emily might have something more to ask of her frienemy.

Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are back for “Another Simple Favor.” Lionsgate and Amazon Studios pulled the curtain back on the sequel to the pair’s 2018 black comedy, which saw the pair play friends turned romantic rivals turned murder-suicide conspirators.
The sequel sees Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) back in each other’s company, now en route to coastal Italy for the latter’s wedding to a wealthy businessman. Stephanie has written a book about the events of the first movie, and Emily, who was in prison, crashes a book reading to invite Stephanie to her wedding — and possibly enact her revenge plot.
The cast also sees the return of Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack, all reprising their roles from the original “A Simple Favor.” Paul Feig returns as director.
“Another Simple Favor” will have its world premiere at SXSW Festival in March.

Season 3 of Netflix's hit show "Ginny & Georgia" is on its way, and though the details of the genre-defying series (Is it more of a coming-of-age thriller? Or maybe a comedic crime/family drama?) are still under wraps, it'll no doubt start with our titular antiheroes in trouble. After all, Georgia (Brianne Howey) was arrested for murder at the end of Season 2, and in the middle of the first dance at her wedding to Mayor Paul (Scott Porter) no less. Paul so far seems like a genuinely good guy compared to most of the creeps and scammers who've previously found their way into Georgia's life, but with Georgia's legal problems, they're still far away from their happy ever after.
Ginny (Antonia Gentry), meanwhile, is enduring her own struggles. In addition to her mom finding out about her history of self-harm, Ginny spent Season 2 starting to go to therapy, dealing...

And now for a different kind of Blake Lively news! Plans for the annual SXSW festival are heating up, and we’ve learned that Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s A Simple Favor sequel is getting a title chance in addition to screening during the celebration’s opening night. The sequel, now titled Another Simple Favor, finds Lively and Kendrick reprising their roles as Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers, respectively. Briefly, it sounded like Another Simple Favor would be shelved because of Blake Lively’s ongoing feud with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni. However, Another Simple Favor director Paul Feig said, “This is total Bs. The movie is finished and coming out soon.”
Feig directs the sequel from a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer. Another Simple Favor follows Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman.

As contradictory as it might sound, writer-director Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby is a wryly, unrelentingly funny movie that happens to be about the shattering after-effects of sexual assault. Victor’s feature-length directorial debut doesn’t use humor to leaven the seriousness of its subject matter, but to ponder its essential power as Agnes (Victor) tries to figure out how life can be so funny and so terrible all at once in the wake of her assault.
We first meet Agnes while she’s reconnecting with her old college roommate, Lydie (Naomi Ackie). They haven’t seen each other in a while, but we can tell right away, thanks to the lived-in authenticity of Victor and Ackie’s performances, that theirs is the sort of relationship that can be picked up where it left off. Watching Agnes and Lydie curled up on the couch, laughing constantly as they swap stories...

A24 is closing on Eva Victor’s Sundance hit Sorry, Baby, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Sunday.
Victor’s film — which she wrote, directed and starred in — tells the story of a college professor recovering from sexual assault. Per the logline, “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least.”
A24 noted that bidding was an incredibly competitive situation, but that the studio is closing on acquiring worldwide rights to the movie. The final price tag is still unknown.
Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch, Louis Cancelmi and Kelly McCormack co-star, with Moonlight‘s Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak as producers. If the name Eva Victor is unfamiliar to you, it may not be for long.
A winning, at times strikingly strong big-screen debut, Sorry, Baby positions the writer/director/star as a triple threat, with a specific, fully formed voice blending irony and earnestness to beguiling effect. Despite some familiar U.S. indie beats (Sundance is Sundance), the film is a disarmingly frank, intimate spin on the female “traumedy” — perceptive and funny and full of feeling.
Injecting a serious story of sexual assault with low-key laughs and considerable charm, Sorry, Baby sometimes leaves you wishing it went down a little less easy; you might find yourself missing rougher edges or regretting an overly cutesy choice here, an on-the-nose touch there. But whatever the movie lacks in surprise or sophistication, it makes up for in sly comic verve and a soulfulness that sticks with you.

Whatever you think about the Sundance Film Festival, there is a special kind of excitement when a movie from a first-time filmmaker premieres and you just know you are discovering and witnessing the real deal.
Welcome to the “real deal” Sundance circa 2025, as comedian and actress Eva Victor’s writing and directing feature debut, Sorry, Baby, in which she also stars, premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. It has provided one of the most assured and heartfelt films not only of this festival, but also one of the most assured and heartfelt films I have seen in a very long time.
Victor, who has appeared on shows like Billions, as well as being a stand-up comic, proves that in her first attempt to write a movie (and eventually come to believe she could also direct it with herself in the lead role) she has a true talent as a storyteller.

Hollywood is heading up the mountain for what’s possibly one of the final Sundance Film Festivals to be held in the posh ski-resort town of Park City. It’s a place that’s hosted its fair share of all-night bidding wars, where films ranging from “Reservoir Dogs” and “Napoleon Dynamite” to “Brooklyn” and “The Big Sick” landed massive deals before going on to box office, and in some cases, Oscar glory. But it’s also been the setting of some frenzied sales that didn’t always pay off, like “Happy, Texas”or “Blinded by the Light.”
Sundance has already announced the festival is considering decamping Utah for Ohio or Colorado in 2027. Even if it does stay in the state, the focus of the festival will shift to Salt Lake City, which is better positioned than Park City to host the crowds that the celebration of movies attracts. As fact-checking takes a hit on social media, a very reliable source is shooting down rumors of behind-the-scenes trouble on A Simple Favor 2.

The sequel follows 2018's A Simple Favor, which was a comedy that followed Anna Kendrick's Stephanie Smothers as she attempted to find her missing friend. Alongside Kendrick, Blake Lively starred as Emily Nelson, the surprise villain. The movie thrived at the box office, where it earned $97.6 million against a $20 million budget. The movie went on to become a hit on Netflix, leading to A Simple Favor 2's official confirmation.

A League of Their Own star and co-creator Abbi Jacobson recently discussed last year's cancellation of the Prime Video series, suggesting that the reason it got the axe was a "scapegoat" excuse. Following the initial renewal of the fan-favorite show for a four-episode second and final season in early 2023, Amazon canceled it in mid-2023, citing the delays caused by the WGA strike as the prime reason.
Jacobson, who played Carson Shaw, the catcher and one of the coaches for the Rockford Peaches in the series, told Collider that the strike was used as an easy excuse to shelve A League of Their Own. "I was just talking to someone about this yesterday. Listen, I think a lot of networks and studios canceled things when the strike was happening," she said. "Was the strike a part of the cancellation? Yes. But did it feel, also, that the strike was an easy...

List of targets? Check. Bullets? Check. Diapers? Check? You heard me. Lionsgate is loading up on formula and onesies for the action comedy spec Three Hitmen and a Baby. The newly-announced project comes from Dave Matalon (Totally Killer) and Matt Altman (Red Widow). While the title is obviously a play on the 1987 comedy Three Men and Baby, plot details remain elusive. However, the talent behind the film is not. Kelly McCormack and David Leitch will produce through their 87North studio, which bodes well for this curious production.
In Three Men and a Baby, three bachelors have their worlds rocked when a mysterious baby arrives on their doorstep. With almost no experience, the trio must put their one-night-stand lifestyle on hold to ensure the child’s safety, learning valuable lessons about parenthood and themselves. When a sequel to Paul Feig’s “A Simple Favor” was officially greenlit earlier this year with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick returning, it was revealed that, instead of a theatrical release, the movie would go straight to streaming. And, according to the director, that decision was made simply because Amazon MGM proved they both wanted it and would support it.
The first film, distributed by Lionsgate in 2018, centered on Mommy Vlogger Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) who gets caught up in a mystery when her new best friend Emily Nelson (Lively) suddenly goes missing after asking Stephanie to pick up her son. What follows is a story of murder, attempted murder, even faking a death, and with the added draw of “Crazy Rich Asians” star Henry Golding, fans loved it enough to want a sequel.
Speaking to TheWrap ahead of his next comedy “Jackpot!” — also headed to Prime Video, it premieres on Aug.
