Exclusive: Gemma Arterton has revealed to Deadline that she will star in the five-part ITV adaptation of Tom Bradby’s ITV spy thriller Secret Service.
She’ll play a senior UK intelligence officer who goes rogue in order to uncover a Russian mole embedded in the highest echelons of the British government. “It’s so timely,” Arteton tells me during an exclusive interview in which she notes that Russian influence is everywhere.
“Just look at what’s happening in America,” she adds ruefully, referencing President Trump’s ever growing bromance with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Bradby, whose day job is ITV News anchor, penned his page-turning novel in 2019. However, he and co-screenwriter Jemma Kennedy (Captain Webb) have shifted the book’s gripping storyline to 2026, which is when the Potboiler Productions series, directed by feature filmmaker James Marsh, will premiere on ITV1, Stv, Itvx and Stv Player.

Warning: Major Spoilers for Bodies.Bodies is the newest British crime series from Netflix, and it’s as captivating as it is confusing. The series follows four detectives across four time periods who all happen to be investigating the same murder, but they just don’t know it. Alfred Hillinghead (Kyle Soller) is in 1890, Charles Whiteman (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd) is in 1941, Shahara Hasan (Amaka Okafor) is in 2023, and Iris Maplewood (Shira Haas) is in 2053. Each of them is somehow connected, but none are aware of the link between them, at least until now.
One of the most fascinating elements of the show, setting it apart from other crime series, is the concept of its time loop, which seems destined to occur no matter how hard the characters try to disrupt it. Each of them plays a part that seems to strip them of their free will. The harder they try to break the loop,...

Warning: contains spoilers for the Bodies finale.
Bodies is a story that does not lack for ambition. Told over eight hour-long episodes set in four different time periods, and featuring a huge cast of characters and a complex, politics and philosophy-themed time-travel plot, it’s a major endeavour.
Adapting it for television was as much a gamble for Netflix as it was for Vertigo Comics when, in 2014, the DC imprint published Si Spencer’s eight-part graphic novel. Would it even work on screen? Was its multiple-thread story too complicated? Would audiences be willing to invest their time unravelling its many mysteries? Would it, in short, be a hit?
That’s the question showrunner Paul Tomalin says determined what happens in Bodies’ final moments. Tomalin told Cosmopolitan.com that while it was important that the series brought its characters to an end because not to solve their various mysteries would be a disservice to the audience,...

Netflix's Bodies is a captivating crime thriller with attention to detail and strong performances from the cast members. The show explores four different timelines as detectives investigate the same murder, incorporating elements of time travel in a unique way. The leading and supporting actors in Bodies bring depth to their well-written characters, with some having established careers and others making their mark.
Netflix's Bodies weaves an intriguing crime thriller that not only impresses with its attention to detail but also with the strength of the performances of its cast members. Set in four different timelines, the Netflix original crime series walks through the mystery-solving endeavors of four different detectives who somehow end up investigating the same murder. Although the show's synopsis already hints its story involves elements of time travel, its use of time travel as a narrative device is not as mainstream as it seems.

In 2014 and 2015, Vertigo published Si Spencer’s eight-issue graphic novel Bodies, a mind-bending mystery about four police officers from different historical eras who discover the same corpse in the same London location, decades apart. Featuring detectives from the present day, the 1940s, the 1890s and 2053, it’s a complex conspiracy thriller about a very dark future. Originally illustrated by four artists – Dean Ormston, Phil Winslade, Meghan Hetrick and Tula Lotay – each era had its own distinct feel and look.
Spencer, who had also written on other Vertigo titles including Judge Dredd and Books of Magick: Life During Wartime, sadly passed away in February 2021, meaning he wasn’t able to see Paul Tomalin’s eight-part Netflix series adapted from his work. It’s out now, with a sprawling cast of characters including Boiling Point and This Is England’s Stephen Graham, several established actors and a handful of newcomers. Here’s more about them.

Three bodies found under similar circumstances in different time periods will lead us to a future where the same sequence is repeated, but the body is not dead. Similar time periods that share arguments and a connected case to be solved over time.
A mysterious organization is behind it, controlling time.
A repeated phrase.
This new (and highly entertaining) English thriller from Netflix starts with this spectacular plot, which will undoubtedly please fans of the genre. It has it all and knows how to take advantage of and combine science fiction with a detective narrative like Sherlock Holmes.

Over eight plot-packed hours, Netflix’s time-spanning police drama Bodies never quite falls on its face — high praise for a genre whose convolutions reliably start off entertaining and end up infuriating.
I can’t say Bodies always makes total sense, but it achieves a healthy balance between amusingly ridiculous and just-plain-ridiculous, with its audaciously high-concept narrative consistently elevated by a top-notch cast and strong production values across several time periods. Like Sky Max’s The Lazarus Project, which TNT dropped into domestic obscurity earlier this year, it’s a decently considered dose of mid-intensity time-travel thrills, a satisfying gift for science-fiction fans.
The series begins in the present day with Shahara Hasan (Amaka Okafor), a London detective sergeant, engaging in a foot pursuit in the middle of a far-right rally and stumbling upon a body on Longharvest Lane.

Both the 2014 graphic novel Bodies and its new Netflix adaptation begin with the same intriguing high-concept hook, and it's tough not to be drawn in by the mystery. Four London police detectives in four different time periods each discover the same dead body in the same place, with the same unique markings and the same apparent gunshot to the head. As their parallel investigations unfold, various clues and suspects connect and overlap, pointing to an overarching conspiracy that spans centuries. The Bodies TV series presents a more concrete explanation for what's happening than writer Si Spencer offered in the DC/Vertigo comic book, but both take mind-bending -- if sometimes confounding -- journeys to get there.
The first episode of Bodies begins in the present, following Det. Sgt. Shahara Hasan (Amaka Okafor) as she monitors what appears to be a far-right rally on the streets of London. She chases a suspicious figure into the narrow,...
