The seemingly straightforward plot of an American detective helping Scottish police find a Satanic murderer has numerous critical flaws. The biggest problem, and central to the supposed mystery, is the competence of the investigators. A melodramatic subplot further muddies these dreadful waters. Every psychotic murderer would be running loose like rabbits with these guys on the case.

Just once, it would be refreshing to see a serial killer movie in which the detectives investigating a series of horrific murders were actually normal, well-adjusted individuals. The kind of cops who leave their work at the office, go home to their families, and drink only the occasional beer or glass of wine at dinner. The ones, in other words, who don’t live up to the title of the new thriller featuring a top-billed Samuel L. Jackson but in which the real leading player is Gianni Capaldi, who also co-scripted.

Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.

Five years ago, a serial killer terrorized Chicago. Detective Dan Lawson was assigned to the case but couldn’t bring the killer to justice. It left him a badly damaged man, drinking on the job and obsessed with revenge. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.

In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.

Artistic director of the Ed Banger label and known for his music videos for Justice, Kanye West, Mgmt, and Kid Cudi, So Me is making his feature film debut with the still-untilted French feature for Netflix.

Filming is underway on a serial killer action-thriller titled Damaged, Deadline reports today, which features a cast led by Samuel L. Jackson and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan).

In the film from director Terry McDonagh (“Breaking Bad’), “A Chicago detective goes to Scotland after an emerging serial killer’s crimes match those that he investigated five years earlier, one of which was the crime scene of his murdered girlfriend.” Kate Dickie (The Witch), Gianni Capaldi (A Day to Die) and John Hannah (The Mummy) also star.

Damaged comes from Stream Digital, Red Sea Media and Bondit Media Capital.

Producers are Paul Aniello and Red Sea’s Roman Kopelevich. BondIt’s Luke Taylor and Matthew Helderman are executive-producing alongside Marcie Sinaiko and Roman Viaris.

Premiere Entertainment Group (Peg) has closed key sales on action thriller Commando, starring Mickey Rourke and Michael Jai White.

Deals have been done for Germany (Tiberius), Latin America (California Filmes), Australia (Rialto), Japan (New Select) and Scandinavia (Scanbox).

Asif Akbar directed the film, which Peg also produced, in which White plays a DEA agent who returns with Ptsd after a botched mission, He has to protect his family from a home invasion when a recenty released convict (Rourke) and his henchmen come after their stash of millions hidden inside the agent’s home.

Bruce Willis co-stars with Kevin Dillon, Frank Grillo, Leon, Gianni Capaldi, Johnny Messner, Vernon Davis, and Brooke Butler. Not a bad cast, but nah... These dime-a-dozen Bruce Willis movies are as bad as they've ever been, and I really hope no one is wasting their money on them. Just stay away.

Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for action crime thriller The Commando, another forgettable formulaic action feature to ignore because all of these films are the same nowadays. A DEA agent with Ptsd returns home after a botched mission and must now protect his family from a home invasion after a recently freed convict and his henchmen come back for their stash of millions hidden inside the agent's home. "Stakes are high and lives are at risk in this head-to-head battle as the agent stops at nothing to protect his family against the money-hungry criminals." Why do they always recycle the same "protect your home because they want the money" plot over and over? The Commando stars Mickey Rourke and Michael Jai White, with Jeff Fahey, Brendan Fehr, John Enos III, Donald Cerrone, and Gianni Capaldi. At least the action doesn't look so bad in this film.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has secured the U.S. distribution rights to A Day to Die, an action-thriller starring Frank Grillo, Bruce Willis, Leon, and Kevin Dillon. Wes Miller directed the indie from a script he co-wrote with Scott Mallace and Rab Berry. The pic is expected to be released in 2022.

In the film, a disgraced parole officer (Dillon) is indebted to a local gang leader and forced to pull off a series of dangerous drug heists within twelve hours in order to pay the $2 million dollars he owes, rescue his kidnapped pregnant wife, and settle a score with the city’s corrupt police chief (Willis), who is working with the gang leader and double-crossed him years ago.

Gianni Capaldi, Brooke Butler, Vernon Davis, Mohamed Karim, Alexander Kane, and Curtis Nichouls round out the cast. Nichouls also produced the film alongside Andrew van den Houten and DJ Dodd. Capstone Group is handling global sales.

There is surely a market for an Underworld B-movie knock off, even a badly made one…. Is what I thought before I saw Among the Shadows. The film mashes the Underworld vampires and werewolves conflict idea with some hardboiled detective nonsense – the fit and healthy young lady is actually a grizzled old, alchy gumshoe.. with narration, whiskey, the whole thing.

Kristy Wolfe (Charlotte Beckett) is a Brussels private eye descended from werewolves who must go to work when her uncle Harry Goldtsone is murdered in a politically-motivated attack. Patricia Sherman (Lindsay Lohan), the wife of European Federation President Richard Sherman, hires Wolfe to investigate Goldstone’s killing, as he was her husband’s campaign manager. Wolfe finds bodies falling all over city and must use her innate instincts to unravel the case and stay alive long enough unmask the conspiracy.”

Momentum Pictures has released the long-awaited Among the Shadows trailer. Lindsay Lohan stars in the supernatural thriller, which is her first movie in six years. Lohan was last seen in 2013's The Canyons, which was slammed by critics. However, Lohan's acting work in the movie was given praise by fans, who assumed that she was going to start working more frequently. Filming on Among the Shadows actually started in 2015 and Lohan was under the impression that the movie was going to hit theaters in 2016.

Among the Shadows centers on Kristy Wolfe (Charlotte Beckett), a private investigator who, along with her partner (Gianni Capaldi), seeks to unravel the mystery behind her uncle's murder, all while trying to conceal the fact she descends from a line of werewolves.
