Attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English in 1991. A year later, enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America, eventually graduating in 1996 with an Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.). Also studied at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners in the Piedmont region.

Has one son.

Her sister, Jane Burrell, is a registered dietitian and the mother of three children.

Her niece was born in 2004.

Graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, and a 1996 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, New York.

Burrell hosted an 11-day Food Network cruise throughout the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic aboard the brand new Celebrity Silhouette in late 2011.

Her remains were Cremated. No public memorial services nor funeral. Her ashes are giving her family members.
