- Jirô Taniguchi was born on August 12, 1947 in Tottori, Japan. He was a writer and actor, known for Kodoku no gurume (2012), Everesuto: Kamigami no itadaki (2016) and Le sommet des dieux (2021). He died on February 11, 2017.
- His stories are mainly "slice of life" tales.
- His protagonists are usually ordinary people, based on himself, who lead ordinary lives and occasionally do incredible feats.
- He was one of Japan's most famous manga artists. He drew exclusively by hand, never using a computer. His first cartoon was published in 1970. Years later his graphic art became popular, particularly in France.
