Actor-director Sean Cronin is back with Bogieville a bloodcurdling vampire feature that premiered at Cannes Film Festival and FrightFest and made its digital thanks to Reel 2 Reel Films in June.

Deep in the American South, a young couple on the run, Ham (Arifin Putra – The Raid 2) and Jody (Eloise Lovell Anderson – Villian), get more than they bargained for when they stumble upon the abandoned Bogieville trailer park. They bump into creepy caretaker Crawford (Jonathan Hansler – Axed) who convinces the pair to stay, but under strict instructions to not leave the property, especially at night…

Unfortunately, the couple don’t heed the advice and inadvertently make a terrifying discovery… Bogieville is inhabited by a pack of bloodthirsty vampires lead by the formidable, Madison (Cronin), who is embroiled in an eternal war with a rival vampire who will stop at nothing to take over

‘Bogieville’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Sean Cronin, Jonathan Hansler, Angela Dixon, Eloise Lovell Anderson, Arifin Putra | Written by Henry P. Gravelle | Directed by Sean Cronin

I went into Bogieville expecting another low-budget vampire flick buried beneath clichés. What I got instead was something far stranger, more ambitious, and occasionally gripping—a grimy, blood-drenched fever dream that stumbles often, but never lacks for vision.

Directed by and starring Sean Cronin, Bogieville is a curious blend of Southern Gothic horror, creature-feature grit, and outsider art-house. The story is set in a desolate trailer park run by an unsettling caretaker named Crawford, where a young couple, Ham and Jody, find themselves stranded after a car crash. What initially seems like a bizarre community of misfits soon reveals itself to be something far more sinister. Vampires, yes, but not the sleek, seductive kind. These are feral, primal predators, and Cronin’s own Madison—long-haired, ragged, growling—is the unholy alpha among them.

Trailer Park Terror Erupts in Sean Cronin’s ‘Bogieville’
Image
British filmmaker Sean Cronin sinks his teeth once more into the horror genre with Bogieville, a southern gothic vampire tale that makes its UK digital debut today, courtesy of Reel 2 Reel Films. Following festival premieres at Cannes and FrightFest, the film is now available to audiences eager for a fresh injection of creature-feature dread.

Set deep in the sweltering American South, Bogieville follows a couple on the run who find themselves ensnared in far more than a case of bad timing. Ham, played by Arifin Putra (The Raid 2), and Jody, portrayed by Eloise Lovell Anderson (Villian), stumble into an abandoned trailer park seemingly frozen in decay. Lured in by its eerie caretaker Crawford (Jonathan Hansler), they are warned to remain inside after dark. Naturally, they don’t.

The park’s outwardly derelict appearance hides a far more dangerous reality. Beneath its rusted metal and faded signage lies a vampire conclave,...

Bogieville Review: Low-Budget Ingenuity and Flawed Execution
Image
Bogieville opens with a stark, unflinching glimpse of vampire violence: a lone woman at a rural Georgia rest stop meets a brutal fate, her menstrual cycle triggering a ravenous attack. This low-budget horror, directed and co-written by Sean Cronin—who also portrays the alpha vampire Madison—centers on Ham (Arifin Putra) and Jody (Eloise Lovell Anderson), a young couple forced to leave their jobs and wander until they discover a dilapidated trailer park called Madison Farm Mobile Home Park.

Rechristened “Bogieville,” this compound of trailers serves as a haven for a family of ghoulish, blood-lusting vampires. Cronin establishes a grave tone that rarely wavers from grim seriousness, interrupted only by sudden bursts of gore. Visually, the film’s muted daytime scenes contrast sharply with shadowy interiors where sharp fangs glint under dim lighting.

The narrative evokes echoes of neo-Western vampire tales like Near Dark but remains resolute in its own aesthetic.

Bogieville review – trailer-park vampire thriller is filled with prosthetic fangs
Sean Cronin
Director Sean Cronin also acts, but the real star is teenager Poppie Jae Hughes – which doesn’t say much for its more senior players

Something has definitely gone awry when the best acting in a film comes from a little kid playing a supporting vampire. In this case, it’s Poppie Jae Hughes, having the time of her life hissing and snarling, caked in makeup and rocking some evil looking prosthetic fangs. Perhaps Hughes outclasses the adults so easily because her role doesn’t require much in the way of dialogue. The rest of the cast are mostly British actors hamming it up with absurd sounding “southern” American accents that range widely across the territory below the Mason-Dixon line. Compelled to deliver way more dialogue than they can feasibly handle given their meagre performing skills, it’s not pretty.

Otherwise this is a cheap as chips but not unamusing farrago...

The Indonesian Chainsaw Massacre: Revisiting ‘Macabre’ 16 Years Later
Image
When they first set out to make 2009’s Macabre, the Mo Brothers — collectively Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel — had one objective in mind: For it “to be the goriest Indonesian flick ever.” Suffice it to say, they achieved their goal and then some. This early collaboration between the two auteurs is an honest-to-goodness splatter pic that other filmmakers could only dream of being their debut.

While a lot of title changes for international horrors can be unnecessary or plain confusing, rechristening Rumah Dara as Macabre was smart. The new name better conveys that sense of utter gruesomeness and shouldn’t be taken too lightly. For those entering this film after first getting acquainted with the directors’ subsequent works will be much better prepared, whereas the completely uninitiated are in for a sanguinary surprise.

Macabre is a recommendable gateway entry for newcomers to contemporary Indonesian Horror; a low degree of cultural...

Martial Arts Action Sequel 'The Raid 3' Could Happen According to Director Gareth Evans
Image
While he is currently causing Havoc on Netflix, director Gareth Evans has given a surprisingly positive outlook for fans on another of his blood-drenched action movie franchises after more than ten years. In 2014, Evans unleashed The Raid 2, an incredible symphony of violence starring Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Alex Abbad, Julie Estelle, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi Endō, and Kazuki Kitamura. Regarded as one of the best action movies ever made, word about another sequel has been deathly quiet – until now.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly to promote the Tom Hardy-led Havoc, Evans addressed the chances of fans ever getting to see The Raid 3, and he initially dashed hopes by detailing how he scrapped the idea of a third movie due to the time that had passed. He said:

"I'll see when it can happen, if it can happen, is my really sort of non-committal answer to that question.

A sequel to 2011s The Raid, the Indonesian action thriller that tells the simple, isolated story of an elite squad tasked with infiltrating a high-rise building run by a ruthless drug lord, The Raid 2 picks up with Iko Uwais character,...

The Raid’s 2 Punching Scenes Have A Deeper Meaning Than You Think
Image
The two punching scenes in The Raid movies each have a deeper meaning relating to the two film’s stories, and this is something that many viewers miss upon first watch. Writer-director Gareth Evans and leading man Iko Uwais burst onto the action movie scene with 2012’s The Raid: Redemption, which follows a Jakarta police unit in a deadly raid of an apartment complex populated by the city’s worst criminals. 2014’s The Raid 2 followed up its predecessor with Uwais’s protagonist Rama going undercover to infiltrate a Jakarta crime family.

The Raid movies became action classics overnight, with their amazing fight sequences making a martial arts star of Iko Uwais, along with his co-stars, Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian. Both of The Raid movies also include scenes of Rama executing punching drills while alone. In both cases, each punching scene in The Raid and The Raid 2 is...

Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace teaser trailer shows Denise Richards taking on an army of the dead
Image
A few months ago, we heard that Denise Richards (Valentine) had signed on to star in Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace, a sequel to the 2020 action horror film called Angels Fallen. Angels Fallen was distributed by Uncork’d Entertainment, and that company will be releasing the sequel sometime in 2023. With the new year quickly approaching, a teaser trailer for Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace has been unveiled and can be seen in the embed above.

Richards was in the news last month because she was shot at in a road rage incident. Thankfully, she made it through that situation unharmed.

Directed by Ali Zamani, Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace will show us what happens when the hero Gabriel rounds up his motley crew of demon slayers, styled as the ‘Warriors of Peace’, to fight an apocalypse-bound army of the dead.

Denise Richards and Pals Stab and Shoot Demons in ‘Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace’ Action-Packed First Teaser (Exclusive Video)
Image
Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the horror feature “Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace,” featuring Denise Richards and set for release in summer 2023. Richards plays a tough weapons expert who clearly knows how to give demons the what-for, and you can see for yourself in the first teaser, exclusively via TheWrap.

And if that’s not enough, scroll down to see first look images.

Also featuring Arifin Putra (“The Raid 2”) and starring Josh Burdett, “Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace” sees a group of demon hunters led by Gabriel — an Afghan war vet struggling with some personal demons of his own — on a mission to defeat a terrifying army of the undead. Outfitted, of course, with some fairly awesome weapons by Richards’ character.

Given that the trailer confirms that, per the title, the Angels have already fallen, things look bad for our heroes. Luckily for them, and us, things look likely to get pretty gross,...

Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar makes the jump to tv with ‘Halfworlds’ trailer
Joko Anwar, despite having only a handful of films to his credit, has already become a prominent name among international cinema fans, with a filmography that includes entries in horror, thrillers, comedies, and dramatic romances. With his latest feature A Copy of my Mind making its North American debut at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, Anwar is already onto his next project.

His next project significantly differs, however, in that it’ll see Anwar follow many of his Hollywood contemporaries and make the jump from film to television. The series, titled Halfworlds, will be an HBO Asia original project, with Anwar taking on directing duties, as well as co-writing it with Collin Chang. The synopsis of the series is as follows.

In the bustling streets and back alleys of Jakarta, a parallel world of bloodthirsty creatures from Indonesian mythology has lived alongside humans for generations. Taking on the appearance of humans themselves,...

The top 10 films of 2014: The Raid 2
The top 10 run-down of our favourite 2014 films begins with Gareth Evans' violent action gangster sequel, The Raid 2...

Over the past few weeks, Den of Geek writers have been voting for their favourite films of the year. In 10th place is operatic gangster action banquet, The Raid 2. Here's why...

10. The Raid 2

When Gareth Evans' The Raid: Redemption burst on to cinema screens in 2011, action movie fans rejoiced. Here was a film that relied on pure, scintillating fight choreography and inventive direction to produce one of the finest action films in years. A sequel surely beckoned, and in 2014, The Raid 2 arrived; bigger, badder and with a considerable amount of attitude.

The tower block of The Raid was merely a microcosm for the wider fight against corruption and organised crime in Jakarta and, picking up from where the first film left off, Rama (Iko Uwais) finds himself going undercover.

The Raid 2 (2014) review
Reviewed by Colleen Wanglund, MoreHorror.com

The Raid 2 (2014)

Directed by Gareth Evans

Runtime 150 minutes

Written and directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid 2 picks up right where the original film left off. Rama’s brother Andi (Donny Alamsyah) is executed by the crime syndicate after escaping the building. Rama (Iko Uwais) goes to Bunawar (Cok Simbara) and is asked to go undercover in a secret unit to expose the corruption of the Police Commissioner. Rama wants no part of it until he learns of his brother’s murder and the threats to his family. He goes to prison for assault where he is told it will only be for a few months. While there he must gain the trust of Uco (Arifin Putra), son of the head of Bangun’s (Tio Pakusodewo) criminal enterprise. When Rama is finally released from prison, Uco is waiting for him and he is given a job by Bangun.

The Raid 2 knocks down UK doors from Tomorrow
This one's a no-brainer, and we've certainly given it plenty of coverage over the last few months, but The Raid 2 is (finally) available to own in the UK. As from tomorrow in fact. Director Gareth Evans reunites with star Iko Uwais for the sequel to their cult hit with the acclaimed, action-packed martial arts epic The Raid 2, available on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital HD August 11 (that's tomorrow) from Entertainment One. Is it even better than the first (if that was even possible!) one? You’d better believe it! U.S. fans have already got their hands on a copy, so it would be interesting to see what you guys think. The Raid 2 is one of - if not the - biggest releases of the year. An exclusive digital release has been available this week but we've managed to hold off 'til now. Really can't wait for this.

The Raid 2 Blu-ray Review
Coming back for a sequel, Gareth Evans’ follow up to The Raid, The Raid: Berandal is a much bigger film in every respect. It’s scope (2.35:1) instead of flat (1.85:1), it’s a full fifty minutes longer, and it features some of the craziest and greatest stunt sequences in the history of cinema. But also with that two and a half hour running time comes some bloat, which may have been unavoidable with the scope of the film. Iko Uwais returns as Rama, who this time goes undercover to take the most powerful bosses in the business, but to do so he most put a lot of his life on the line. My The Raid 2 Blu-ray review follows after the jump. The film starts with Rama being taken in by the good cops as many of the supporting character who survived the first film are eliminated from the story.

'The Raid 2' (2014) Movie Review
2012's The Raid came with a flurry of fanfare following a series of festival screenings touting it as a masterpiece of action cinema. Written and directed by Gareth Evans the film no doubt featured some impressive action choreography, but the story was non-existent to the point of boredom. That said, to say my expectations for The Raid 2 were limited is an understatement. When I saw it runs two-and-a-half hours my interest dwindled even more, expecting to see it, if ever, on Blu-ray. Well, I did and I'm very glad I did, proving expectations can sometimes cause you to miss something great. The immediate comparison here is to say The Raid 2 is to The Raid what Infernal Affairs 2 is to Infernal Affairs, but that's to give The Raid too much credit. The comparison to Infernal Affairs 2 alone, however, is apt. The two films follow somewhat similar storylines,...

New on DVD/Blu-ray: Let 'The Raid 2' Punch and Kick Its Way into Your Heart
The Raid 2 - Sony Pictures Classics - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Gareth Evans Cast: Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo. Full cast + crew Everything you've heard about The Raid 2 is true. The action is absolutely insane, taking things to a level of ridiculous practicality that is flat-out missing from Hollywood action movies. The scope of the story is surprisingly large and dense, which in turn elevates the stakes of the action. There plenty of martial arts movies that have great action and silly plots. The Raid 2 eats those movies for breakfast. It is also quite long, the plot is possibly a bit too dense for its own good, and the violence is just insane. But complaining about those elements in this scenario is...
