Exclusive: The Responder and Big Mood maker Dancing Ledge Productions has signed a development deal with historian, The Rest is History podcaster and author Dominic Sandbrook.

The agreement will see Sandbrook develop and executive produce a range of scripted and factual series at the London-based Dancing Ledge, which is also behind true-life drama The Salisbury Poisonings.

Sandbrook will work with the creative team at Fremantle-backed Dancing Ledge to create a slate of limited series, returning dramas and factual formats that rework how contemporary history is brought to the screen.

He’s known for his Goalhanger Podcasts-made series The Rest is History, which sits in a stable alongside The Rest is Politics and The Rest is Entertainment, and has led to sell-out live tours in the U.S. and UK. The Rest Is History is regularly in the top ten podcasts in the U.S. and has nearly 50,000 paying subscribers.

Wheelhouse has teamed with Goalhanger, the UK’s largest independent podcast production company, to bring its chart-topping podcast The Rest Is History to television.

Wheelhouse, whose numerous content labels produce series such as Max’s Smartless: On the Road, Netflix’s The Menendez Brothers and King of Collectibles, and Hulu’s upcoming Got to Get Out, will collaborate with Goalhanger to develop unscripted projects based on The Rest Is History and the hit podcast’s growing library (600-plus episodes).

The deal was orchestrated by Wheelhouse EVP of Business Development Fanny Baudry, who also serves as managing director of the company’s digital and audio division (DNA), Wheelhouse EVP of Development Kate Collier and Goalhanger Co-Founder Tony Pastor. Baudry and Collier will oversee the partnership for Wheelhouse. The deal was negotiated by WME (William Morris Endeavor), which represents both Wheelhouse and Goalhanger.

The audio series, which is hosted by historians Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, comes from Goalhanger, the podcast production company founded by former England soccer legend Gary Lineker.

Goalhanger has teamed with Wheelhouse, to develop unscripted projects based on the podcast and its library of over 600 episodes.

Wheelhouse, which was founded by Pawn Stars creator Brent Montgomery, is behind series such as Hulu’s Secret Chef and upcoming Got to Get Out as well as Netflix’s Buying Beverly Hills and King of Collectibles.

On November 5th, during the U.S. Election night, The Rest Is Politics will host a special live event featuring real-time election results and expert analysis. The broadcast will be centred around a live stream of the show, with a unique lineup of Goalhanger hosts, including Alastair Campbell, Rory Stewart, Anthony Scaramucci, Marina Hyde and Dominic Sandbrook.

Coverage will start in the evening and continue overnight, and it will be available exclusively to stream via YouTube. The broadcast will provide in-depth commentary and analysis as the election results are revealed, with a groundbreaking all-night live feed beamed worldwide.

The hosts of The Rest Is Politics, Campbell and Stewart, will lead the election coverage, offering expert analysis of data and results. Three of the most recognisable names in English football; Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards are teaming up to co-host a brand-new football podcast.

The Rest is Football will see the three top pundits release new episodes at least twice a week to review the week’s matches, debate the biggest topics in the game and answer listeners’ questions.

The new show, which launches on Monday August 7th ahead of the new Premier League season, will give the trio the opportunity to voice their opinions in addition to their work for mainstream broadcasters.

Exclusive: Goalhanger, the company formed by legendary England striker Gary Lineker, is looking to further expand its audio output after signing its podcast division with WME.

The agency has signed London-based Goalhanger Podcasts, which the former Barcelona and Leicester footballer set up in January with Tony Pastor and former BBC podcast executive Jack Davenport. It comes after Lineker and Pastor set up TV production company Goalhanger Films, which has produced sports docs including Wayne Rooney: The Man Behind the Goals and Hand of God, in 2015.

It comes on the back of a number of growing audio series for the company including The Rest Is History, The Rest Is Politics and Match of the Day: Top Ten. These three shows have collective monthly downloads of around 5M.

Jon Ronson and Amol Rajan are among those nominated for next month’s Broadcasting Press Guild (Bpg) Audio Awards.

The pair have picked up nods in the UK Podcast of the Year and Audio Presenter of the Year categories respectively.
