Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 10 Delivers Another Cliffhanger Ending Without Much Payoff
Image
The following contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 10 of Dr. Stone, "Dirty Roads," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The fourth and final season of Dr. Stone takes place on a fresh continent where the cast clashes against emerging enemies with innovative new weapons, which requires a level of exposition that held back Episode 9 of Dr. Stone Science Future. The opening cour of Dr. Stone Science Future needs time to flesh out new villains like Dr. Xeno the NASA scientist and Stanley Snider the soldier, but even then, the story spends a little too much time on setup. The same is true in Episode 10, which lays more of the groundwork for the looming final battle in Stone Age California.

Granted, the final fight will only be exciting and worthwhile if the Dr. Stone anime puts enough pieces in place to raise the stakes higher than ever to keep loyal viewers invested. To that end,...

Dr. Stone Characters From Senku to Why-Man
Image
If there’s anything we’ve learned from Dr. Stone (besides science), it’s that its characters have certainly gone through A Lot. Let’s take a look at some of the key Dr. Stone characters as they continue their adventures. Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 7 Review
Image
The following contains spoilers for Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 7, "The Two Scientists," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Episode 6 of Dr. Stone's Science Future story arc built up the tension to its absolute peak as war looms between Senku Ishigami's and Dr. Xeno's feuding factions, only for Episode 7 to put the brakes on the story to dive into the distant past. The timing isn't too great, but the content absolutely is, so patient Dr. Stone fans can forgive this episode-long interruption to flesh out the complicated relationship between Senku and Dr. Xeno.

No matter the awkward timing, Episode 7 does a marvelous job at everything it sets out to do, from rounding out Dr. Xeno as a character to creating a genuine disaster movie vibe to bringing in cameos for lovable characters like Byakuya Ishigami. All of these elements are juggled and blended well to create an emotionally satisfying, tense, and science-heavy backstory...

Dr. Stone: The Senku Ishigami Timeline, Explained
Image
The following contains spoilers for the Dr. Stone manga.

The entire story of the Dr. Stone manga/anime series centers around the teenage scientist Senku Ishigami, who has one of the grandest ambitions in all of shonen: to fully restore the lost human civilization. Senku was trapped in stone along with everyone else on the planet, but when he awoke millennia later in a new Stone Age, he didn't let despair win. Instead, he saw a project to undertake, which launched his true life's story.

Senku is a hero who has lived in two different millennia, and in each of them, Senku remained true to himself and his passion, leading to a remarkable life story centered around science and discovery. His chronology also proves Senku's love of the human spirit and his boundless optimism, never once giving up in the face of extreme danger or surrendering to his many powerful enemies.

“I need to see that”: Furiosa Will Follow Fury Road’s Tradition Despite Underwhelming Box-Office That Just Might Save the Movie
Image
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been quite a topic of conversation ever since the first trailer was released. Not only does the film have an excellent cast of actors, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, but the film also continues the beloved story of the Mad Max world. There are a lot of things fans love about the series, including its immersive storytelling, gruff atmosphere, and sandy landscapes.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga | Warner Bros.

All of these traditions have been brought into the new addition to the series. A recent update regarding the project seems to imply that a beloved part of Mad Max: Fury Road has been added to the new film. One that will make fans very happy, despite the film’s underwhelming performance.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Review
Image
Plot: Stolen from her people as a child and forced to witness her mother’s execution, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) sets out on an epic quest for vengeance against the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).

Review: George Miller’s Mad Max series contains not one but two of the most incredible action movies ever made. Sure, there’s Fury Road, but there’s also The Road Warrior. Both are masterpieces of their genre, so the bar has been set pretty high for Miller’s return to the Wasteland. The early reviews seem overly concerned that Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga isn’t a replay of Mad Mad: Fury Road, with it telling an epic, fifteen-year tale, the likes of which has never been attempted in the series before. From the 1979 original onward, all the movies told relatively compact stories, so Miller and co-writer Nico Lathouris deserve praise for doing something different.

Dr. Stone Theory: Petrification Was an Intentional Act
Image
Dr. Stone's third season is a time of incredible exploration and all-new technology, with protagonist Senku Ishigami building an entire ship to cross the sea and visit the island that Byakuya Ishigami had once inhabited. There, on the supposedly deserted island, Senku confronts his oldest and most terrifying enemy: petrification.

Senku once believed that the petrification event had been a unique phenomenon in the 21st century, but now it's happening again, and much more deliberately this time. All the evidence suggests that petrification is not a random act of nature but rather a weapon that some unseen party, perhaps Why-Man, is using to fight Senku's Kingdom of Science at every turn.

Olivia de Camps Subverts Masculinity in Gendered Spaces for Rodney Chrome’s ‘Break the Internet’
Image
Break the Internet is the second Rodney Chrome video we’ve covered at Dn. The first was To The Money, a vivacious riff on the frivolities of consumerism that captured Chrome’s dynamism to great effect. Break The Internet similarly captures Chrome’s essence, this time in a subversive take on masculine spaces. The video, directed by Olivia De Camps, pops with the visual dynamism that is typical with Chrome’s aesthetic but there’s an added thematic layer in the locations in which it’s based. These environments, gyms, and fight clubs, are traditionally hyper-masculinised spaces but Chrome’s campy, lust-filled approach twists that on its head. Dn is delighted to share the video below alongside a deep dive interview with De Camps on her collaborative process with Chrome, the equipment she employed to match his energy, and the importance of presenting this video through a female lens.

Rodney Chrome Splashes the Cash Around NYC in Zac Dov Wiesel’s Vivid Music Video ‘To The Money’
Image
There’s such palpable energy to Zac Dov Wiesel’s music video for Rodney Chrome’s To The Money, the lead single from his forthcoming EP Ghetto Popstar. It’s set in New York City where Chrome finds a bag of unlimited money which he then proceeds to flaunt and spend in vivacious fashion. Wiesel captures Chrome’s spree in heightened motion with wide anamorphic shots and snapping frantic zooms. Chrome’s music is a unique blend of pop, hip hop, rap and electronic, and Wiesel channels that eclectic spirit throughout the video. It’s a perfect harmony between director and artist, and it’s no surprise that the pair have been developing their creative relationship for a while after having both gone to NYU recently. Directors Notes is joined by Wiesel today, who delves into his history with Chrome and walks us through the technical know-how behind his impressively audacious music video.
