Brandon Sklenar Goes Shirtless & Looks Ripped While Training for 'Biggest Role Yet' Amid Batman Speculation
Image
Brandon Sklenar is getting ready for his “biggest role yet” and he looks ripped in a hot new shirtless photo!

The 35-year-old actor’s personal trainer Wesley Wilson took to Instagram to share a new photo from his workout session with Brandon.

“Training one of my best friends for his biggest role yet has been a fucking blast. We pushed through the hard days and maximized the good. This is the result of showing up day after day for months and months. Hitting 2+ hour grueling workouts and eating enough elk and salmon to feed a freaking village,” Wesley wrote.

Brandon responded, “love you brother ❤️.”

Head inside to check out the shirtless photo…

It’s unclear what the role is, but fans are speculating that he might be playing Batman in James Gunn‘s new DC movie universe.

Brandon said in an interview earlier this year that he wants to continue doing his own stunts.

Image
Back in April, Brandon Sklenar told Interview Magazine, “I love using my body,” And boy is he using it! With every new photo showing off his superhero-worthy physique, the internet gets louder with calls for the actor to suit up as the next Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Most recently, celebrity fitness trainer Wesley Wilson posted a sneak peek of Sklenar’s intense training sessions, sending fans into a frenzy once again. He wrote in the caption: “Training one of my best friends for his biggest role yet has been a f—ing blast.”

Image
Meghann Fahy’s 2025 Thriller Drop Has an 84% Rating (Photo Credit – YouTube)

In a year packed with horror heavyweights and big-budget thrillers, Drop, Meghann Fahy’s 2025 high-rise nightmare, slipped through the cracks without much attention. Quietly released in April, the film earned an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has all the makings of a cult classic. However, it appears that very few people are discussing it. So, how did a film this tense, compelling, and cleverly written manage to escape notice? Let’s examine why Drop might be the greatest thriller you haven’t yet seen.

What is the plot of Meghann Fahy’s Drop?

Directed by Christopher Landon, Drop follows Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy), a widowed therapist from Chicago, trying to step back into the dating world after years of trauma. Violet’s first husband wasn’t just abusive; he left scars that ran deep in both her and their young son,...

Alan Ritchson as Batman? James Gunn Shares What He Thinks Of the Reacher Star
Image
James Gunn has finally addressed the fan-casting of Alan Ritchson as Batman in Dcu’s The Brave and the Bold. Rumors have been circulating around the internet about Gunn’s Batman actor for a couple of years now. Gunn hasn’t gotten around to the casting of some of the Dcu’s other major stars, as he was busy with Superman.

But now that the first film is successfully running in theaters, it’s time for Gunn to decide on further steps in the Dcu. Most important of them all would be casting Batman. When Gunn appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he addressed some of the pressing Batman questions, including the casting of Ritchson.

When Josh Horowitz put out the fan-favorite Reacher star’s name out there, Gunn shared that he is a big fan of Ritchson. So yes, Gunn is very much aware of fans campaigning for the actor to be Batman.

It’s currently sitting at the number one spot on Peacock’s top 10 movies in the US (via Flix Patrol). After its modest box office run, the movie has found renewed success on streaming.

If you consider its sharp 84% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, coupled with some word-of-mouth publicity and a short runtime, you get the perfect recipe for a streaming hit. Futra Days Review: Ambition, Romance, and Static on the Screen
Image
We’ve all been there, scrolling through dating profiles, trying to engineer the perfect connection based on a few curated photos and a witty bio. It speaks to a very modern anxiety: the desire to eliminate risk from romance, to know the outcome before we invest our time and emotions. Futra Days takes this impulse to its logical, sci-fi extreme.

The film introduces us to Sean, a Los Angeles music producer who meets Nichole, an aspiring singer with an infectious energy. Their initial spark is undeniable. But instead of letting things unfold, Sean enlists the help of an experimental clinic that promises to send him into the future. His goal is to see if Nichole is his destiny. This quiet, introspective indie film sets itself up as a thoughtful exploration of love in an age that demands certainty.

Taylor Sheridan's Best Yellowstone Spinoff Tops the Global PVOD Charts (& It's a Shame It Ended)
Image
After breaking records on Paramount+, 1923 is setting some new ones on PVOD. Despite some stiff competition, the Yellowstone prequel series has topped the PVOD chart on iTunes.

According to FlixPatrol, 1923 is ranked No. 1 on iTunes' Global Top TV Shows, as of July 15. Even with the original series having now ended, the Yellowstone franchise remains one of the biggest IPs in the world, allowing 1923 to beat other fan-favorite series like Rick and Morty, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on the PVOD chart. The prequel's success on iTunes isn't entirely surprising though, considering that the series was a major hit during its two-season run on Paramount+, with the series finale alone attracting an audience of $14 million during its first week on the streamer.

Created by Sheridan, 1923 is the second prequel series to Yellowstone, premiering less than a year after its predecessor,...

Futra Days review – esoteric sci-fi romance offers lovers time-jump ‘happiness heists’ to save relationships

A man gets catapulted into the future to help him understand the future of his crush, but the sloppy chronology and gratuitous stylistic touches leave this film a little too infatuated with itself

With studio projects abandoning Los Angeles as a shooting location, it’s the low-budget crowd that are still holdouts, presumably out of necessity. Futra Days is another in the line of esoteric films about overheated Angeleno creative minds that the pandemic seemed to encourage; the likes of the hermeneutic sci-fi Something in the Dirt or family found-footage He’s Watching. But running time-travel rings around a dysfunctional relationship, Ryan David’s sophomore effort is just a bit too infatuated with itself.

Jaded record producer Sean is wondering whether a new crush on thrift-shop worker and aspiring singer Nichole (Tania Raymonde) will go the distance. So he signs up to a “happiness heist”: being catapulted into the...

‘1923’ Star's $28 Million Whodunnit Is a Global Streaming Hit After Doubling Budget
Image
Brandon Sklenar has become one of the biggest breakout stars of the last few years, thanks to his role in 1923, the hit Yellowstone prequel from Taylor Sheridan. However, the actor recently starred in a box office hit that has also found success on streaming. Sklenar stars alongside Meghann Fahy (Sirens) and Violett Beane (Countdown) in Drop, a whodunnit mystery thriller following a widowed mother who goes on her first date since her husband’s passing. Things turn dark when she’s bombarded with messages threatening her son. Drop recently began streaming on Peacock, and it’s quickly become the most popular movie on the platform. The film earned a “certified fresh” 84% from critics and a 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $28 million at the global box office against a modest $11 million budget.

While it seemed like Sklenar was done working with Taylor Sheridan after the second and final...

After Just 1 Day, Michael Bay's Sleeper Thriller With 84% on Rotten Tomatoes Has Already Topped the Streaming Charts
Image
Michael Bay is a filmmaker who is largely known for his high-octane, explosive storytelling. However, many of his projects as a producer have been widely different from his on-brand, visual effects-filled directorial efforts.

One example is 2025's Drop, for which Bay is a producer. The film comes from Scream franchise director Christopher Landon, and it premiered this year at the SXSW Festival to perfect reviews, but it fell largely under the radar after its Apr. 11 wide release, despite positive reviews and a strong box office run. However,Drop has turned into a sleeper hit and is getting its revenge on streaming, topping the charts on Peacock one day after its release, per FlixPatrol.

Three months after its Apr. 11 theatrical release, Drop premiered on streaming on Peacock on July 11. The mystery thriller didn't waste any time, and it headed straight for the No. 1 position, replacing the documentary The Idaho Student Murders for the top spot.

‘Dexter: Resurrection,’ ‘It’s Always Sunny,’ ‘Drop,’ and the best to stream this weekend: July 11
Image
Welcome to the Gold Ticket, your VIP guide to the best of pop culture for the weekend ahead, curated by the Gold Derby team of experts. (July 11-July 13)

The main stream

Just like Slim Shady, Dexter Morgan's back (back again).

If you're keeping track at home, Dexter: Resurrection is the fourth series about the vigilante serial killer (portrayed by Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall). It's the sequel to the sequel of the original Emmy-winning drama (the fourth series in the popular franchise is a prequel). While we cannot say how Dexter survived a seemingly fatal gunshot wound in 2021's Dexter: New Blood, we're willing to bet the latest series — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Paramount+ (the show airs Sunday at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on Showtime) — will answer this very question.

On Resurrection, the show's setting is moved to New York, and while there...

Alan Ritchson's Batman Gets A Detailed Batsuit, Yellow Utility Belt And Menacing Cowl In Stunning DC Art
Image
Alan Ritchson showcases how perfect for Batman he is in new DC Universe art. Several actors have been rumored to take the lead role in Batman's The Brave and the Bold movie. That includes the likes of huge stars like The Boys' Jensen Ackles and Reacher's Ritchson, as well as newcomers, such as 1923's Brandon Sklenar.

After months of debate over whether Robert Pattinson could be the Dark Knight of Matt Reeves' The Batman Universe and the Dcu's Chapter One, James Gunn has repeatedly shut down that idea. A new Batman will be cast for DC's slate of projects, and the shared universe could use someone who would jump at the chance to play him.

On Instagram, @imaginativehk shared what Alan Ritchson could look like as the Dcu's Batman.

The One Big Difference Between The Yellowstone Spin-Offs 1883 And 1923
Image
Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise is unified in its themes of survival, family, capitalism, and the environment, but each show boasts its own distinct qualities to separate it from the pack. Each series takes place during a different time period, all of which pose unique threats, problems, and obstacles for the Dutton family. That said, "1883" and "1923" feel more closely connected as they feature some of the same characters and similar storylines (which we will get to later), but Taylor Sheridan believes that there is one key difference between both the "Yellowstone" prequel series.

According to Sheridan, "1883" and "1923" both deal with the topic of expansion, albeit in different ways. "1883" centers around pioneers traveling across the American West to make their fortunes, but it ends in disaster for most of them. Meanwhile, "1923" depicts an Africa where Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) makes a living as a hunter while rich English people...

Dcu's Batman Update: James Gunn Confirms The Mystery Script Is Almost Ready

The Dcu's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" has multiple Justice League heroes getting reimagined on the big and small screens, with the Caped Crusader being one of them in Gunn's franchise.

While no release date is currently attached to The Brave and The Bold, the film is taking major steps forward to becoming a reality.

During a new interview with Omelete to promote Gunn's Superman movie, the outlet asked the DC Studios co-ceo how many Batman scripts he expects to be reading in the next couple of months. With a laugh, Gunn stated,...

Every Taylor Sheridan Series, Ranked by Rotten Tomatoes Rating
Image
With Sicario, Taylor Sheridan kicked off a literal storytelling empire. With Yellowstone, he redefined the modern Western. Then he kept going from the chaos of Mayor of Kingstown to the espionage edge of Special Ops: Lioness. Sheridan’s shows just hit different – be it cowboys or covert ops, his signature’s all over it, with good dialogue, moral gray zones, and damn good drama.

Now, with his universe spanning timelines, towns, and tough-as-nails leads, we’re ranking every Taylor Sheridan series by their Rotten Tomatoes scores. Because when your TV catalog runs this deep, someone’s got to lay it out straight.

‘1923’ (2022 – 2025)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95%

1923, folks, didn’t just ride in as another Yellowstone prequel; it carved out its own legacy. Premiering in December 2022 on Paramount+, the series followed a new gen of Duttons fighting for survival during the brutal early 20th century. 'Drop': Underrated Thriller Starring Meghann Fahy Sets Streaming Date
Image
If you missed it in theaters or were unable to see it when it hit VOD earlier this year, director Christopher Landon's excellent 2025 thriller, Drop, has finally set a streaming release date. Premiering on April 11, 2025, the Blumhouse/Platinum Dunes collaboration was only in cinemas for a limited time, and grossed $28.8 million against an $11 million budget. Despite its short theatrical run, however, the film was largely praised by critics, as is evident by its Certified Fresh rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Per Bloody Disgusting, Drop will make its Peacock premiere on July 11, 2025, so you only have a couple of more weeks to wait to check out what is undoubtedly one of the finest performances of Meghann Fahy's career. Fans will recognize her from her recent starring roles in HBO's The White Lotus, and the Netflix hits The Perfect Couple and Sirens. The 35-year-old actress cut her teeth appearing in...

Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
21 Things We Learned from Christopher Landon’s ‘Drop Commentary
Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
Looking for another reason to love your 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD collection? Special features like commentaries featuring filmmakers, critics, and other film fans. After living for more than a decade elsewhere on the internet, Commentary Commentary has been reborn here at Dread Central – and as is fitting for its return from the dead, it’s now all about the horror.

Christopher Landon has been active on the feature horror scene since the mid-2000s, but while writing on the Paranormal Activity sequels made his name, it was 2017’s Happy Death Day that made him a pretty big deal. The critically acclaimed box-office hit was followed by a (superior) sequel, a body-swapping slasher called Freaky, and a writing credit on this year’s holiday-themed slasher, Heart Eyes.

It’s his latest directorial effort that brings us here today, though, as Drop arrives on 4K Uhd and Blu-ray. It’s less...

Batman Fans Just Received Some Disappointing News from James Gunn
Image
Superman is set to feature multiple superheroes beyond the titular Man of Steel. Batman, however, will not be one of them.

After a fan asked Superman writer-director James Gunn, who is also co-ceo of DC Studios, on Threads, if the plan was still for Batman's live-action DC Universe debut to be in his solo movie, The Brave and the Bold, the filmmaker simply responded, "Yes." This means that Batman will also not make a cameo in Supergirl or Clayface, the latter of which is centered around one of the hero's more recognizable rogues, who will be portrayed by Doctor Who guest star Tom Rhys Harries.

Post by @jamesgunn View on Threads

Unveiled back in January 2023 as one of the first 10 Dcu projects, The Brave and the Bold hasn't received many major updates since, although fans do know that Andy Muschietti is attached to direct the Batman reboot and that an...

A Full Timeline Of Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni’s ‘It Ends With Us’ Feud In Court, Online & In The Media
Image
Sony’s It Ends With Us adapted Colleen Hoover’s powerful story about domestic violence and a resilient woman, but drama between stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni behind the scenes and afterwards has lingered beyond the film’s release in theaters. Arriving to the big screen last August and later heading to streaming on Netflix in December 2024, the Justin-Baldoni-directed film drew many moviegoers, though some didn’t realize what the story was fully about.

Tensions mainly lie between the film’s costars — Lively, who portrays main character Lily Bloom, and Baldoni, who also stars as Ryle, the abusive husband of Lily, in addition to directing the film with a script from Christy Hall. During press for the film, it became clear that Baldoni and Lively were maintaining distance from each other, and even on the red carpet at the New York premiere, they didn’t take photos together.

"I Would Never Say Zero": James Gunn Keeps Door Open For Robert Pattinson To Join The Dcu
Image
The chances of seeing Robert Pattinson play the DC Universe's version of Batmanare still alive after a new update. There have been a lot of rumors about who will play the Dcu's Batman, ranging from names like The Boys star Jensen Ackles to 1923's Brandon Sklenar to even Robert Pattinson. The latter is expected to remain separate from the Dcu's Chapter One, starring in director Matt Reeves' planned The Batman trilogy. However, it seems like there is still a chance that both franchises could merge.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, James Gunn kept the door open for Robert Pattinson to play the Dcu Batman, though it is unlikely. According to Gunn, the chances of Pattinson leading Batman's The Brave and the Bold movie for the Dcu are higher than zero, saying, "You just never know." However, that does not mean that the director is teasing it will definitely come to pass as Gunn claims,...

Sydney Sweeney’s Divisive 51% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Smashes Streaming Expectations
Image
Echo Valley may have underwhelmed critics, but it's overperforming where it counts — on screens. The tense Apple TV+ thriller, which stars Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, has landed in the number one spot on the platform’s charts, smashing streaming expectations and proving once again that Sweeney's drawing power is no fluke.

Directed by Michael Pearce (Beast) and penned by Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby, Echo Valley explores the dangerous lengths a mother will go to for her child — even when that child shows up on her doorstep with a body in the car.

Set on an isolated horse ranch, Echo Valley centers on Kate Garretson (Moore), a grieving widow who lives a quiet life tending to her land and missing her late wife. That peace is shattered when her troubled daughter Claire (Sweeney), a recovering addict, arrives covered in someone else’s blood and begging for help.

Taylor Sheridan's 95% Rotten Tomatoes Megahit Western Is Finally Heading to Netflix
Image
With Yellowstone officially in the books and Taylor Sheridan’s empire still expanding like the Old West itself, it was only a matter of time before one of the franchise’s biggest offshoots made its Netflix debut. That day is almost here.

1923 — the critically-acclaimed, Harrison Ford- and Helen Mirren-led prequel series — will officially arrive on Netflix starting July 9. However, before fans in North America start dusting off their Stetsons, there’s a catch: the series will only be available in select international territories, including “most European regions, the United Kingdom, and places further afield, such as Latin America, including Brazil,” according to What’s on Netflix.

That puts 1923 alongside other Sheridan-created series like 1883, Yellowstone, andLioness, all of which have been popping up across various regions of Netflix depending on local licensing deals. Still, this is good news for global audiences who haven’t yet jumped on...

Sydney Sweeney's New Thriller From 'Mare of Easttown's Writer Hits a Rough Patch on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
On the surface, Echo Valley feels like an unexpected move for Sydney Sweeney at this stage in her career. The young star broke out with HBO's Euphoria, and rode a massive wave of popularity all the way to the global box office success of Anyone But You, her 2023 romantic comedy also featuring Glen Powell. She did the obvious thing by signing onto a superhero movie next, but that didn't quite work out for her. The movie in question, Madame Web, tanked miserably with both critics and audiences. Before she returns with the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, she can be seen in the Apple TV+ thriller Echo Valley, which is set for a release this Friday, but with lukewarm reviews under its belt.

Echo Valley currently holds a so-so 53% Rotten Tomatoes score, with most critics pointing out its illogical narrative and indecisive script. In his review, Collider's Jeff Ewing...
