Eerie Teaser Trailer for 'I See the Demon' Indie Sci-Fi Horror Thriller
Image
"We don't know what we're going to wake up to, like, what the world is going to be like..." An early teaser trailer has debuted for an indie horror film titled I See the Demon, from filmmaker Jacob Lees Johnson. This is premiering at the 2025 Cinequest Film Festival in March if anyone wants to catch it - grab tickets. It's described as a "mublegore sci-fi thriller" - I dig that the title seems like misdirection. There is a strange comet up in the sky? And other weird things going on? Is it a demon or aliens or something else entirely? At her surprise birthday party, an emotionally vulnerable woman experiences unexplainable phenomena that threaten to turn the best night of her life into a never-ending nightmare. Lucy sees a strange object in the sky, but everyone keeps telling her everything is fine. This stars Alexis Zollicoffer, Jon Heder, Mallory Everton,...

Villains Inc. Stars Mallory Everton & Colin Mochrie Create Movie Chaos
Image
Villains Inc. marries supervillain chaos and the workplace comedy. The charmingly chaotic movie follows three henchpeople -- Beatrix, Harold and Cain -- who find themselves struggling to get by after the death of their boss. How are they supposed to get through the day, let alone try to take over the world? Pinky and the Brain have nothing on this trio of put-upon criminals.

Yet the reason the film works is the entertaining characters drawn by a cast of improv and sketch comedy veterans. Studio C's Mallory Everton stars as Beatrix, who refuses to take her new circumstances sitting down. Colin Mochrie fans from the hit comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway? will enjoy just how off the handle Harold can be. In an interview with Cbr, both actors spoke about how they found their characters and the fun behind the scenes of Villains Inc., which is in movie theaters now.

‘Sasquatch Sunset’ Bigfoots 800+ Screens In Week 2 Expansion: “It’s A Wildcard” – Specialty Preview
Image
Nathan Zellner and David Zellner’s Sasquatch Sunset is stomping into circa 850 theaters this weekend after debuting in 9 with a solid opening for a film many could find weird. A tribe of Sasquatch, possibly the last of their kind, live and love in the woods of northern California, where it was shot.

“We are taking Bigfoot to America. We have high hopes that the broader market will embrace the movie,” says Kyle Davies of distributor Bleecker Street, calling it “a very different” kind of movie and “a bit of an unknown.”

“It’s a wildcard.”

Marketing was mainly through social activations. “I wouldn’t call it traditional marketing. It doesn’t really fit in that box,” Davies adds. The Sasquatch standees in theaters are fun. And Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar is displaying a baby Sasquatch sitting in a glass case with umbilical cord and placenta.

This is “a polarizing film.

First Trailer for Lockdown-Busting Road Trip Comedy 'Stop and Go'
Whitney Call
"We just gotta focus!" Decal Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie road trip comedy titled Stop and Go - which is the update release title for the film that initially premiered at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival under the name Recovery. This coronavirus pandemic road trip comedy is about two directionless sisters who break out of lockdown and decide to brave a cross-country road trip to rescue their grandmother from a Covid outbreak at her nursing home. Described as a "raucous road trip comedy for the quar times," which is as cringe as any description can get. Whitney Call and Mallory Everton co-wrote the screenplay and co-star in the film as sisters Jamie and Blake. The cast includes Julia Jolley, Anne Sward Hansen, Stephen Meek, Noah Kershisnik, and Dora McDonald. The best part about this is their dog, but I'm still not even sure that will convince me to watch this.

Stop and Go Trailer Takes Two Sisters on a Crazy Road Trip During the Pandemic
Image
One of the biggest changes that the past year has forced the world to grapple with is the loss of freedom to move about freely outdoors. The new indie film Stop And Go tackles this aspect of the pandemic in a comedic manner. A product of Sorø Films Production in partnership with BuzzFeed Studios, the official synopsis for Stop And Go, previously titled Recovery, can be read below.

"Sisters Blake and Jamie's big plans for the year come to a screeching halt when they are forced to rescue their grandmother and her beloved dog from her nursing home, before their reckless sister can get there first. They embark on a hilarious cross-country race against time while contending with a deranged dog breeder, a highly inappropriate 9-year-old, and a clueless Romeo, all in the name of family."

‘Recovery’ Review: Sisters Road-Trip to Rescue Their Granny in Quickie Covid-19 Comedy
Image
It’s not easy to fathom the rush to make films about the coronavirus pandemic, especially since we’re not quite in the clear. Still, here we are. Or rather, here are friends Whitney Call and Mallory Everton, the co-writers and stars of the slight, mighty silly, improbably likable comedy “Recovery,” about sisters on a mission to rescue their grandmother from her assisted living facility in Washington state — a film which premiered at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival almost exactly a year after the country shut down, making the previous edition one of its first casualties.

In February 2020, Jamie (Call) and Blake Jerikovic (Everton) are riding, if not high, at least hopeful. Jamie is celebrating her 30th birthday. Blake is celebrating what looks to be a promising first date. Both are making plans. Then comes March. Who can forget the endless month in which everything came to a screeching halt? They...

SXSW Review: Recovery Takes an Uneven Road Trip Through the Awkwardness of Early Pandemic Days
Several years ago, South Park asked the question: at what point is it acceptable to make a joke about a tragedy? The answer within that universe was 20 years. The inquiry comes to mind again as one’s receptiveness to Mallory Everton and Stephen Meek’s road trip comedy Recovery depends largely on the ability to laugh about Covid-19. Set in late March, it’s a time period when some awkwardly wiped down their groceries with bleach but well before the country seemed as if it was about to explode with the summer uprising. With a script that takes many comedic shots with varying results, Jamie and Blake are thirty-something sisters living in Albuquerque getting ready for the best year of their lives. Jamie, a teacher, has just turned 30 and has a life plan for #adulting while Blake, without a set career, seems to exist as an emotional support of Jamie.

Two Sisters Go on a Road Trip to Save Grandma from a Nursing Home in the First Hilarious Covid Movie
Image
Life is full of surprises. Just last March — to pick one random example that you might remember — the entire world shut down because a coronavirus decided that it didn’t want to live inside a bat anymore. What a twist! Aside from the many scientists who saw it coming and repeatedly tried to sound the alarm, literally no one saw it coming. And now, just a year after the Covid-19 pandemic slowed the planet to a standstill, we’re in for another system shock that might be even harder to swallow: Someone has managed to make a funny movie about it. Like, actually funny, and not just “I understand that reference about decontaminating groceries” funny or “I haven’t had human contact with anyone outside my home in over 12 months” funny or “I’m only laughing so that my brain is tricked into releasing the last drops of serotonin that...

SXSW Sets ‘Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil’ As Film Festival Opener; Unveils Program Highlights
Image
As Austin-based South by Southwest shifts online this year, the SXSW Film Festival isn’t slowing down when it comes to bringing progressive, exciting, envelope-pushing — and sometimes delightfully bizarre cinema from all over the world. SXSW Online kicks off on March 16 and continues through March 20.
