Following the success of Welcome to Wrexham, FX is turning its sights to another soccer club, this time in Mexico.

The cable outlet and Disney+ Latin America have ordered a docuseries following the fortunes of Mexican soccer team Club Necaxa. The show’s executive producers include Eva Longoria — who has an ownership stake in the team — and the Welcome to Wrexham duo of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. (Some of Necaxa’s backers purchased a 5 percent stake in Welsh club Wrexham AFC earlier this year, reciprocating a deal in which McElhenney and Reynolds got a piece of Necaxa.

The show’s description says it will follow Necaxa “as they strive to reclaim their place as one of Mexico’s top teams, while their Mexican-American owner Eva Longoria tries to breathe new life into the team by enlisting the help of her high-profile friends including new co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

CCTV, China’s main broadcast network, was going to broadcast a match between Arsenal and Manchester City on Sunday. The telecast was scratched in the wake of comments by Arsenal’s Mesut Özil about the internment of Uighurs in China. Streaming services in China, Pptv Sports and Migu Sports, also pulled their coverage of the game.

Arsenal are into the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy after beating a Singapore Select XI 4-0 in their first pre-season game. A hat-trick from youngster Chuba Akpom as well as a Jack Wilshere penalty gave Arsenal a comfortable victory, and they will now go on to face Everton in the final on Saturday. Arsene Wenger put trust in his young squad, having only named six substitutes for the match and opportunities being given to several youth players.

Several big names were not involved, with the likes of Mesut Özil, Petr Cech and Alexis Sanchez missing out. The youngsters did not hesitate to take their chance though, with Arsenal always in control and rarely threatened at the back against what was a very average Singapore Select XI. New signing Cech is expected to start on Saturday, after youngster Emiliano Martinez was given a chance to impress in their landslide victory.

Over the past decade, Arsenal have experienced some turbulent seasons. The Premier League returns after an international break that saw the England national team comfortably qualify for the next summer’s World Cup.

Arsenal and Liverpool are co-leaders heading into the weekend. It’s Brendan Rodgers’ side who kick the weekend off at Newcastle in Saturday’s lunch time kickoff at Newcastle.

At 3pm Arsenal host a Norwich City side who have fallen into the relegation zone with three defeats in their last four fixtures. Mesut Özil is a doubt for the Gunners after a hobbling off in Germany’s 5-3 win over Sweden on Tuesday. Theo Walcott remains absent but Santi Cazorla may return.

Five games into the 2013-14 Premier League season and we’ve already seen our first managerial casualty. Sunderland relieved the duties of Paolo Di Canio on Sunday, the day after his side were thrashed 3-0 at West Brom.

The fiery Italian manager won just 2 of his 12 Premier League games in charge of the Black Cats and was winless in his final 9. Sunderland are the only team without a win this season; their solo point coming in a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

From a team in a desperate crisis to title contenders. Throughout the summer, Arsenal fans were crying out for Arsene Wenger to make some signings however, on the opening game of the season, they found themselves cheering for only one new name in the freely acquired, French youngster Yaya Sanogo. Fast forward 90 minutes and Arsenal had just lost a home game to Aston Villa by 3 goals to 1. Coming off to a chorus of boos and chants of “spend some money”, Arsene and the team knew they had to improve and fast. With two vital games in the Champions league against Fenerbahçe to come and just a week until the transfer window closed, the gunners found themselves fighting for their season early on and possibly for their Manager’s job.

There seem to be two prevailing opinions around Arsenal’s deadline day signing of Mesut Özil. The first, from detractors and generally fans of rival teams, is that Arsenal may well have bought themselves a world class player, but they have completely ignored their more pressing needs; namely a striker, a centre back and a defensive midfielder. The second, held mostly by Arsenal fans and those blinded by the stellar nature of the signing, is that a big name player, any big name player, is exactly what Arsenal needed to put themselves back on the map and announce their arrival as major players in world football again.

The transfer window is for fans what Christmas is for children. They write their wishlists and send them off to the imaginary football Santa in the hope that come the climax of Deadline Day, all their wishes will have come true. It has been a so-so summer for Arsenal. At the end of last season, chief executive Ivan Gazidis told the press that Arsene Wenger will have up to £70 million in transfer funds to spend over the summer. With Arsenal fans getting excited for what lay ahead for their club, expecting big-name signings who would help them to their first trophy for 8 years, and being the only top four club to retain their manager, it was the opportune to take advantage.

However, getting further and further into the window, fans were getting frustrated, Arsenal’s only signing being French youngster Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer, who’s playing time was mainly in the French Ligue 2 with Aj Auxerre. Despite his obvious potential, he was not the big-name signing Arsenal fans were looking for, and he unlikely to make much of an impact this season.

Manchester United manager David Moyes is reportedly “considering” a bid for Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modrić.

The Guardian claim that Manchester United have finally given up in the chase for former Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas and that focus will switch to bringing the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Modrić instead.

Real Madrid only signed the Croatian playmaker last summer for a fee of £33 million, but he failed to settle in initially and was voted the worst player in La Liga in 2012.

A change in manager this summer at the Santiago Bernabéu saw Carlo Ancelloti take charge of last season’s runners-up. Central midfielders Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Casemiro have all joined the books. Along with Mesut Özil and Kaká who also play those central roles, Modrić faces tough competition for a place in the team.
