Layers of Lies delivers creative fight scenes and a satisfying conclusion set in an intriguing location. The film's protagonist's abilities have inconsistencies, leading to a disheveled tone at times. The on-screen chemistry and motivations of the characters work well, but there are moments of abrupt and awkward writing that may evoke unintended reactions from the audience.
It’s more than enough that firefighters risk their lives every day trying to rescue people out of burning buildings. But now imagine, in the middle of a blaze, that same person who was sent in to save people steps right into the middle of a crime scene – one where someone is about to be shot. Well, that’s what happens in the first sequence of director (and actor) Ramin Sohrab’s 2022 flick called Layers of Lies, which is the first Iranian-Finnish action film ever produced.

Well, now ... here's a little somthing interesting. It was back in 2014 that we first wrote about Iranian-Finnish martial artist Ramin Sohrab. The occassion was a hugely impressive proof of concept short for a feature film that Sohrab was hoping to film in Iran and while we were very much impressed there was also a certain degree of skepticism about whether the feature could ever actually happen as hoped. Sohrab is currently about a week in to the Tehran based section of the shoot of his upcoming feature Layers Of Lies. And that...

The latest video from Iranian/Finnish martial artist and filmmaker Ramin Sohrab has debuted and it's smoking. Our friends at Film Combat Syndicate debuted the video, along with this description: "Sohrab plays a man on his way to play his violin one last time for his wife, but not until he sets out into the seedy criminal underworld to retrieve it from the thieves who stole it from him." The proof-of-concept video was shot in Helsinki, Finland. Among Sohrab's credits, he made another promo video back in November 2014 for a project titled Malek. As our own Todd Brown wrote at the time: "Sohrab has released a promo reel which he directed and choreographed himself to show off both his skills and the look of the...

What's that? An Iranian martial arts star seems like an unlikely sort of thing to you? Well, I'd wager very few people were wondering where the next Iranian vampire story would come from before A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night sauntered through Sundance and that ended up working out just fine, so ...Meet Ramin Sohrab, the son of an Iranian martial arts master who spends at least part of his time in Finland - where he had some involvement in Aj Annila's Jade Warrior - but his focus now is on the Tehran set feature film Malek. With the film currently in development, Sohrab has released a promo reel which he directed and choreographed himself to show off both his skills and the look...
