Laid, a romantic-comedy drama starring Everything Everywhere All At Once star Stephanie Hsu, has been cancelled on the streamer after just one season. The series premiered with all eight episodes on Peacock on December 19. Laid was a hit with audiences and the critics as well, scoring a tidy 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the numbers weren't quite enough for the streamer. In addition to starring, Hsu also served as executive producer, as did the show's writers and co-showrunners, Sally Bradford McKenna and Nahnatchka Khan.

Another day, another under-appreciated comedy gem gets tossed to the wayside by its streaming home. That's right, the Stephanie Hsu-starring (and executive-produced!) comedy series, Laid, has been canceled after a single season on Peacock. The show was a hit with critics (including our own Greg Archer) and fans who tuned in — gaining it a 93% on the Tomatometer, which seems a big low, all things considered. Unfortunately, praise was not enough to convince Peacock to give the series another season, which is a shame for anyone who watched the show.

The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes at a time when fewer and fewer comedy series are getting the green light. Laid followed Hsu's Ruby Yao as she —over the course of the series' 8 episodes — realized that all of her former lovers were dying in unusual ways, forcing her to confront her past (and subsequent sex partners) in order to move forward.

Laid, starring and executive produced by Stephanie Hsu, premiered on December 19 with all 8 episodes available to stream. While Laid boasted a talented ensemble cast, a catchy title, and a must-stream playlist, the rom-com failed to make the Nielsen streaming rankings, nor did it generate as much buzz as other projects from co-showrunners, executive producers, and writers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna. It is as yet unknown if the show will be shopped around.

World sales agency 13 Films has boarded dark comedy “The Trainer,” the new film from “American History X” director Tony Kaye, and will be screening the film for buyers at the Cannes Film Market next month.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists announced its 2025 awards recipients at the sixth annual Scl Awards.

Composers and lyricists gathered together for a dinner and ceremony hosted by singer-songwriter Colin Hays, held at the Skirball Cultural Center. The evening opened with a performance of “Lean on Me” — meant to bring the community together after the recent wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles.

While the night’s atmosphere was overall celebratory, the awards ceremony took several opportunities to acknowledge the recent tragedy in the city. Composer Starr Parodi, who lost her home in the Palisades Fire, was given a replacement plaque for her previously earned jury award on stage.

Leading contenders for the Society of Composers & Lyricists’ 2025 Scl Awards include “Emilia Pérez” composers Clément Ducol and Camille, who picked up three nominations, for their score and for two original songs from the musical drama. The highly anticipated Billboard Music Awards 2024 wrapped up a few hours ago, and the Internet has been buzzing with content. From the red carpet outfits to the star-studded performances and, most importantly, the night’s winners, the annual awards ceremony saw a host of stars under a roof.

Taylor Swift topped the 2024 Billboard Music Awards on Thursday night, scooping up 10 awards, the most of the night, and making history by bringing her career Bbma wins total to 49.

Swift went into the night with 17 nominations. Zach Bryan, who led the nominations list with 21 nods, won five awards.

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards aired live on Fox and Amazon’s Fire TV channels and on demand on Paramount+.

Michelle Buteau hosted the awards show.

Performers included Coldplay, Linkin Park, Fuerza Regida, Jelly Roll, Megan Moroney, Seventeen, Shaboozey, Stray Kids and Teddy Swims.

The full list of winners has been announced for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards!

The show aired on Thursday (December 12) as a partially pre-taped and partially live event, featuring performances that happened around the world while artists were on tour.

This year, the most nominations went to Zach Bryan, who is a finalist in 18 categories with 21 total entries in the finalists list. Taylor Swift received 17 total nominations this year, coming in at second. Morgan Wallen landed in third with 15 nods.

Not all of the categories were presented on TV, but we can tell you who won in every category.

Taylor made history with 10 wins, bringing her total number of Billboard Music Awards to 49, more than any other artist has ever won.

The song, released in July, quickly became one of the summer’s top tracks, and has received 2025 Grammy nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

On Monday, the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that the 28-year-old American actor will receive the Chairman’s Award at its annual gala on Jan. 3, 2025. This honor specifically recognizes Chalamet’s performance in James Mangold‘s “A Complete Unknown” from Searchlight Pictures, a biopic of music legend Bob Dylan.

This news comes one week after he was announced as the Arlington Artist of the Year Award honoree at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and two weeks after he and Mangold were both named as the Visionary Tribute honorees at the Gotham Awards.

The Palm Springs International Film Awards will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the 11-day festival running between Jan. 2 and Jan. 13. The event will be presented by Silvercrest and sponsored by “Entertainment Tonight.”
