Before Saja Boys from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, Pixar’s 4*Town took over the internet as a fictional boy band. 4*Town was featured in Pixar’s film Turning Red, which was released in March 2022. This band became a viral sensation upon the movie’s release. The group was a hit because it presented a blend of nostalgia for early‑2000s pop with modern styles.
Pixar’s 4*Town: Real-life Inspiration, Music Charts, & Subsequent Success
Director Domee Shi described 4*Town as a tribute to the 2000s boy bands, such as *Nsync, Backstreet Boys, O‑Town, and 98 Degrees, as per Marie Claire. The group also features a striking similarity to modern K‑pop groups like BTS and Ateez to add a flair of modern boy bands. Billie Eilish may be coming again to a theater near you. At a concert in Manchester, England on July 19, the “What Was I Made For” singer/songwriter announced that her fans were on camera… and that she’d be wearing the same outfit for about four concerts in a row. And somehow James Cameron is involved? Yes, that James Cameron.
If you’re wondering what the connection is between the two artists… well, obviously, Eilish has two Oscars for Best Original Song, a category that Cameron’s “Titanic” won in 1998. She won, of course, for the ballads she co-penned for “No Time to Die” and “Barbie.” But what exactly this new project will be isn’t entirely certain, although a concert film would seem like the very obvious answer. We know for sure that whatever happens, it’ll be in 3D. Here’s exactly what Eilish said:

It's another heartbreaking day for lovers of television as Peacock has just killed off one of its most promising shows. Laid, a romantic-comedy drama starring Everything Everywhere All At Once star Stephanie Hsu, has been cancelled on the streamer after just one season. The series premiered with all eight episodes on Peacock on December 19. Laid was a hit with audiences and the critics as well, scoring a tidy 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the numbers weren't quite enough for the streamer. In addition to starring, Hsu also served as executive producer, as did the show's writers and co-showrunners, Sally Bradford McKenna and Nahnatchka Khan.
Peacock has not released an official statement explaining its decision; however, Deadline, which broke the news, reports that the series was unable to draw as much attention as other shows from the same creators. Also, its streaming numbers paled against expectations. Many fans would, however, argue that...

Another day, another under-appreciated comedy gem gets tossed to the wayside by its streaming home. That's right, the Stephanie Hsu-starring (and executive-produced!) comedy series, Laid, has been canceled after a single season on Peacock. The show was a hit with critics (including our own Greg Archer) and fans who tuned in — gaining it a 93% on the Tomatometer, which seems a big low, all things considered. Unfortunately, praise was not enough to convince Peacock to give the series another season, which is a shame for anyone who watched the show.
The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes at a time when fewer and fewer comedy series are getting the green light. Laid followed Hsu's Ruby Yao as she —over the course of the series' 8 episodes — realized that all of her former lovers were dying in unusual ways, forcing her to confront her past (and subsequent sex partners) in order to move forward.

Exclusive: Peacock will not be moving forward with new installments of the freshman series Laid, sources reveal to Deadline.
Laid, starring and executive produced by Stephanie Hsu, premiered on December 19 with all 8 episodes available to stream. While Laid boasted a talented ensemble cast, a catchy title, and a must-stream playlist, the rom-com failed to make the Nielsen streaming rankings, nor did it generate as much buzz as other projects from co-showrunners, executive producers, and writers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna. It is as yet unknown if the show will be shopped around.
The 8-episode series follows Ruby Yao (Hsu), a woman who finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward. “I didn’t want some namby-pamby, Ralph Lauren documentary,” Martha Stewart declared Monday night in Beverly Hills as she and filmmaker R.J. Cutler sat for an FYC event on the outdoor deck of the Maybourne Hotel to tout the Netflix docu “Martha.”
Stewart was responding to a question from moderator Dave Karger, a host of TCM, as to why she chose Cutler as the person to tell her life story in a feature documentary. Stewart added quickly that fashion mogul Lauren is a friend who lives “next door to me” in Connecticut. But she referred to the 2019 docu “Very Ralph” as something that Lauren “masterminded.” Cutler, on the other hand, had final cut on “Martha,” which premiered Oct. 30 on the streamer.
Stewart’s initial reaction to the film included some sharp criticisms of Cutler and the final product. That tension seems to have largely melted away as the two sat collegially together for a half-hour,...

The Brigade, a group founded by PR, studio executives and filmmakers in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack on southern Israel, has issued a strongly worded statement in response to an organized effort by Artists4Ceasefire that asks attendees of the 2025 Academy Awards to wear orange hand pins in support of Gaza.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists announced its 2025 awards recipients at the sixth annual Scl Awards.
Composers and lyricists gathered together for a dinner and ceremony hosted by singer-songwriter Colin Hays, held at the Skirball Cultural Center. The evening opened with a performance of “Lean on Me” — meant to bring the community together after the recent wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles.
While the night’s atmosphere was overall celebratory, the awards ceremony took several opportunities to acknowledge the recent tragedy in the city. Composer Starr Parodi, who lost her home in the Palisades Fire, was given a replacement plaque for her previously earned jury award on stage.
Among the top awardees for the night were Daniel Blumberg for The Brutalist, Diane Warren for The Six Triple Eight, Kris Bowers for The Wild Robot and Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Luca Guadagnino for Challengers.

In a ceremony that alternated between subdued and sublime, reverent and rocking, the 2025 Grammys attempted to offer thoughtful tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires while also honoring the best in music. Fittingly, the biggest ovations came at the end of Sunday’s ceremony, as the gathered music royalty rose to applaud Los Angeles County firefighters, who took the stage to present the final award, and then again to celebrate Beyoncé, who claimed the night’s ultimate prize: Album of the Year.
That win, for her country-crossover sensation, Cowboy Carter, was her first triumph in the Album of the Year category after four prior losses. Beyoncé, who entered the evening as the most-nominated performer with 11 bids, also took home awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for the track “II Most Wanted.” Queen Bey now has 35 career Grammys, extending her record...

Adele is one of the most accomplished singers of her generation. In addition to being one of the world's best-selling musicians, she's won 16 Grammys, 18 Billboard Music Awards, 12 Brit Awards, five American Music Awards, and among her other accolades, her "Skyfall" theme got James Bond an Oscar.
James Bond movies have followed a winning formula that's kept 007 on movie screens for 60+ plus years, and that formula follows a few trademarks: Beautiful women, super-villain lairs with death traps, lots of guns, terrible puns, etc. Before the adventure truly kicks off, though, Bond films must have a lavish title sequence with a custom-composed song.

For viewers who tune into the new Peacock series “Laid” this weekend, don’t be surprised if you spot a familiar public figure.

In “Laid,” Aj (Zosia Mamet) is a true crime fanatic who helps her best friend, Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), figure out why all of her ex’s are dying in the exact pattern she slept with them. Aj is obsessed with Knox throughout the show and, by the end, the real-life Knox makes a cameo appearance.
This reps Knox’s first appearance in a fictional television series. Years after her case and eventual acquittal rocked Italy — and became huge headlines even here in the U.S. — Knox continues...

“My vagina is killing people.”
As pithy summations for TV series go, that line from the new Peacock comedy Laid is pretty tough to beat. The series, created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, and starring Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet, has a particularly high-concept premise: Ruby (Hsu), who has compiled a long and messy sexual history without ever finding a relationship that works, discovers that everyone she has ever slept with is dying. Oscar-nominated writers Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach reportedly have a concept for a sequel to Barbie, the $1.4 billion box office hit. However, representatives for Warner Bros. and the filmmakers have dismissed these claims, insisting there’s no sequel in development.
The massive success of Barbie made the idea of a sequel almost unavoidable. As the film painted theaters pink and raked in over a billion dollars globally, questions about a seuqel became inevitable.
Warner Bros. and Mattel expressed enthusiasm quickly, but the decision ultimately rested on Gerwig and Baumbach, the creative duo behind the first film. They made it clear they wouldn’t move forward without a compelling story to tell.
Gerwig, who directed Barbie, emphasized the importance of finding the right story. In March 2024, while accepting a Women of the Year honor from Time, she explained, “‘”My guiding principle is: What do I deeply love? If I can find the heart of the story,...

There’s a fabulous reunion happening behind the scenes of Peacock’s hilarious new comedy, Laid. Michael Angarano, who plays one of the former lovers of the show’s main character, the bewitched and bothered Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), has reunited with a former Will & Grace pal. That’s Laid executive producer and co-showrunner Sally Bradford McKenna, the Emmy-nominated writer and producer who penned 14 episodes of Will & Grace from 2001 and 2006. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Angarano reflected on starring as young Elliot, Jack McFarland’s (Seam Hayes) son on the hit show, noting:
“Oh man, that show was majorly influential on my life… definitely, obviously, my career. It had just such great reach and people to this day talk about that show… [they] see me on that show and that character. But seeing those actors just at their level of professionalism and creativity, and just how generous they were with each other…...

Is a “Barbie” sequel really on the pink horizon? Gold Derby sister site The Hollywood Reporter broke the story Friday that the blockbuster film’s co-writers, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, are in the “early stages” of coming up with a story idea for “Barbie 2,” citing two unnamed sources. But before you could say, “Come on, Barbie, let’s go party,” official representatives downplayed the story. Gerwig and Baumbach’s rep claimed, “There is no legitimacy to this reporting,” and a Warner Bros. rep chimed in by saying, “THR’s reporting is inaccurate.”
The notion of a follow-up film would seem like a no-brainer. ‘Barbie’ Sequel in “Early Stages” as Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Settle on Story Idea (Exclusive)
As Barbie painted the world pink and covered the box office in a whopping $1.4 billion of green, an urgent question emerged and was lobbed at everyone involved: What about a sequel?
It’s a query that even someone as adorably clueless as Ken could’ve come up with and one that Warner Bros. and Mattel were understandably eager to answer with a resounding, “Yes, please!” as it became the indisputable pop culture phenomenon of 2023. But the answer has always rested with the Barbie brain trust of Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach even if, at times, a franchise seemed inevitable.
The partners in life and creativity — they co-wrote the script and snagged an Oscar nomination for their collaboration — were clear in pursuing a follow-up if and only if they could find the story to support it. At least that is what director Gerwig repeatedly stated. “My North Star is, what do I deeply love?...

He doesn’t just pen left-field pop and indie electronica ditties.
After winning Oscars for original songs “No Time to Die” from the same-titled 007 movie, as well as, “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie –both performed by sister Billie Eilish– Finneas O’Connell goes all in on scoring this season. And we’re not talking film, rather the AppleTV+ Alfonso Cuaron series Disclaimer starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen and Lesley Manville.
While we’ve long been acquainted with O’Connell and Eilish’s bass heavy alternative singles, in Disclaimer the former shows a completely different side of himself in what is Bach-inspired chamber piece-driven score for this noirish series about older sophisticated adults whose pasts come to haunt them, and the retribution they seek.
